    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

To me, the difference here is that those actors have been asked about their roles in interviews (and all denied it)? Discussing those denials (regardless of their authenticity!) when they're out in the public domain seems fair. I don't follow twitter accounts or reddit threads etc with rumours or leaks or set pics etc. My view would be that something is fair game for discussion if it's in some sort of output from Marvel themselves (trailers, press releases etc), interviews, or a well-known reporting source (Deadline / Variety / Hollywood Reporter jump to mind). I come here to help plan what sets to buy based on some insight into what's coming up, and to discuss details of sets both released and rumoured. I see a pretty clear distinction between that Lego-related discussion and more movie-based discussion.

Could this not have been spoiler-tagged at least? If we're asking what's appropriate or not, surely leaning on the side of caution would be best? Maybe message a mod to have that discussion first?

While I'm going to quote posts here, my comments are meant more generally and not criticisms of these writers specifically. (Also my patience is beginning to run a little thin with this whole topic, so if I'm blunt, apologies in advance.) This was me, I made that comment earlier in the thread. I'm going to put the first part of my response to this in spoiler tags, as I'm not sure what this forum's policies are in terms of ... adult conversations: Even if you can't / don't want to read that spoiler tag, I'm gonna turn this question around -- what is the cost to you of adding in the word 'person' if someone asks? If it makes people feel more valued as people, and requires a few keystrokes, why not do it? The same goes for using pronouns that people request. Society is totally used to women changing their names after marriage, no one bats an eyelid, so what is the struggle when people ask to be recognised as people / individuals ask for certain pronouns to be used / survivors of sexual violence ask to be called survivors and not victims? (Again, not directed at the original comment here at all!) This argument about 'intolerance on both sides' keeps being raised and is utterly vacuous. The core difference here is that people who seek to judge or shame or disrespect LGBTQ+ people are projecting their values and judgements onto the lives of LGBTQ+ people, and the same is not being done in response. The vast, vast majority of people who campaign against civil rights for LGBTQ+ people, who campaign against same sex marriage, who bar LGBTQ+ people from accessing necessary medical services, are not part of the community, and yet have decided that they get to have a say in other people's lives. LGBTQ+ people (typically) are not advocating that, for example, those with religious convictions that do not accept us should be banned from practicing their religion. We aren't trying to insert our beliefs or values into anyone else's life, but that is what is being done to us. All we're asking for is to be seen and acknowledged and respected for who we are, and to be treated at the same level as straight people. That's why pronouns are important. That's why feeling safe in a bathroom is important. That's why having a Lego set made about you is important! One other point while I'm here: I don't expect everyone to have an intuitive knowledge of all of this stuff, but I do think it is not the responsibility of LGBTQ+ people on this forum to answer every question or argue everyone's 'devil's advocate' arguments about LGBTQ+ people. If you have a question, I'd encourage you to Google an answer first -- there are many activists and advocates who have written about most of these topics, and I think many of the questions being raised can be answered there without putting a weighty responsibility on LGBTQ+ members here. I, as a cis man, would hold myself to that when it comes to trans issues: I don't believe I have any knowledge of what gender dysphoria is like to experience, nor am I directly affected by issues facing the trans community, but much of the knowledge I'm lacking I've found through blog posts, social media, and articles written by brave and admirable trans people. (If a question is still outstanding, of course I'd bring it to my friends, but only if / when they're comfortable having that conversation) Having said that, I am desperately trying to make at least some of the experience of being queer relatable or understandable for the straight people in this thread, but honestly it is becoming exhausting and upsetting. Please, just let us have this one Lego set. It's depressing when any tiny sense of recognition or representation we get has to be picked apart over and over again.

I've been watching the discussion, and I think there are two things that are worth mentioning: I appreciate that many people in this thread may not have engaged in conversations around LGBTQ+ issues before - welcome to the party! But for the LGBTQ+ people who are in this thread, we will (likely) have all had these discussions dozens of times: with family, friends, classmates, workmates, strangers, you name it. If we seem impatient, it's because we face these conversations a lot. And while for some people this may be just about a Lego set, for us it is about our identities and our lives. I'd ask, if you're not part of the community, that you might keep that in mind when having these discussions: by their nature, they're going to cut deeper for us than for people not directly affected. I also appreciate that some people are genuinely confused / concerned by the seeming change in Lego's policies, and want to express that. However, again, for LGBTQ+ people, we have heard very similar arguments be used as a cover when the person is really arguing against our rights. Can I suggest that a separate thread might be a good place to have the discussion around Lego's policies and its potential implications? By conflating the two, there is the risk that the language is dog-whistle-y, and so separating the two lines of discussion might be better. I say those to hopefully give a sense of where at least some of the LGBTQ+ members heads might be at (I haven't spoken to anyone, but as I feel this way I imagine others might), so it might give some greater context. For those who are against the idea of a set focusing on the LGBTQ community, I'd ask what the harm is in this set existing? I don't understand how a message of inclusiveness has a negative effect. When this year has seen huge rollbacks in tolerance for the trans community in the USA, and an ongoing campaign against trans people in the UK; large amounts of harassment against LGBTQ people across social media, and the negative effects that lockdown have had on LGBTQ youth (report from Ireland), if a Lego set can provide some relief or sense of recognition for LGBTQ+ people then that seems like a good thing? My DMs are open to anyone who would like more information, or any LGBTQ people who need to have a chat

Is it too much to hope for the arm-printed Black Widow...? For an AC, I guess so. I might pick up the Widow and Falcon pack before it goes out of production...

I'm chuckling at the mention of drag queens -- I'd been thinking about the set last night, and thought that the more vibrant hair pieces would be perfect wigs! I've been thinking about designing a gay bar for my modular building street, maybe I'll finally do it now

I didn't say it wasn't political -- I was saying that one has an identifiable harm, while the other doesn't. I cannot identify a harm that comes from recognising LGBTQ people. 1: No. 2: Yes. 3-5: I think it's less about Lego themselves, and more about the community. Brickset published an article about a LUG group organised by and for LGBTQ people (and allies if I recall correctly), and it garnered a large number of comments that ranged from tone-deaf to offensive. It's in Lego's interest to make the community (and therefore their customer base!) as wide as possible, and to encourage a brand and community that is about positivity and safety for kids, values which they articulate frequently. That they have chosen to express those values through a set isn't hugely surprising I don't think. Just a couple of quick pointers, to keep the conversation constructive: it's best to refer to LGBTQ people as either 'LGBTQ people' or 'the LGBTQ community', and not just 'LGBT' as it can be a little dehumanising. Also, while you may not want to come out on one side of the "issue", that's not a choice that LGBTQ people have, particularly in countries where rights are not recognised, so that in itself is a difference in how discussions about civil rights can be approached. Also, suggesting that there are 'two sides' implies that those arguing against civil rights for LGBTQ people have some sort of say or legitimacy, which again is upsetting for LGBTQ people to hear. I realise that this is veering off-topic and don't want to get drawn into a debate in what is supposed to be a Minifig thread, but if anyone is looking for info or would genuinely like more information please feel free to DM :-)

In fairness, there's a harm that can be identified with the military associations of the Osprey. I don't think this set is comparable, there's no harm in recognition of civil rights and liberties. As Lego said when the Crook's Hideout cancellation was announced, 'we always aim to represent the reality of the world in a way that is fun, positive and appropriate for kids.'

Agreed on this entirely. Very excited about the idea of a Pride set, but if the money just goes to Lego's pockets I'll feel uncomfortable about it. There are plenty of charities the proceeds could go to that represent the message behind the set.

Oh amazing spot! I was hoping it would be -- although it'll tower above existing modulars so maybe some modifications might still be needed. Not sure I have a shelf tall enough!

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

What comparable sets are there to the Bugle? I was thinking about Diagon Alley which was €100 more expensive, had 14 figures, 4 of which were new (I think? Correct me if I'm wrong!). So are we thinking 16 / 17 minifigs then?

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Just to put out an alternative viewpoint: while it would make sense to us for the sets to be revealed today alongside the video, from a marketing perspective it might be better to hold out for another time. Rather than cramming all their news in to one day, and thus only getting one article on a site, if they do different reveals at different times Marvel has more presence in more news cycles, which is better from a PR perspective. Today will all be new Eternals footage / new movie names articles -- why have the Lego sets only be a paragraph at the bottom of those today when they could be a whole article to themselves another day? Don't get me wrong, I'd *love* the sets to be revealed today, but I think the comments about the "perfect" time to reveal them are only looking from a consumer / our viewpoint.

    Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Do we know if the deal between Lego and Nintendo covers franchises other than Mario? Everything has been branded 'Lego Super Mario' so I wonder if the current products are specifically under that and not a wider Nintendo deal. It might be a reason for Zelda sets not appearing yet?

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

This is entirely speculation, but I wonder if the sets will be revealed via Marvel Must Haves during the fallow period over the next week / few weeks? If Marvel had some sort of exclusivity over the reveal, that might explain why set pics haven't leaked with the others?

    Super Mario 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

The original wave of Super Mario sets were revealed in March last year, but the NES wasn't revealed until July. So unless the release for the D2C this year is earlier, I would doubt we'll see it soon...? Has there been any indication of the release month / quarter for the D2C? I may have missed it.

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Do we know for certain there's going to be a VIP release for the Daily Bugle? If it's releasing 1 June, then we might not see a leak for another month -- R2-D2 just leaked this week and it's coming out 1 May. Diagon Alley was only revealed a day before it's release last year and without early VIP access...

Presumably the R2-D2 as it was in the video, and that can't have been an accident. And it's the next due for release after these, I think?

Well I guess the nice thing about a fictional universe is that we can each choose to hold on to the bits that we liked or that mattered to us :-) Good point, well made! :-P

Agent Carter had Kevin Feige as an exec producer, which I would presume led to the Jarvis cameo and gives it the best shot of being part of the MCU canon out of all of the TV shows prior to Disney+. (And to keep this post somewhat on-topic, what I wouldn't give for Agent Carter and Edwin Jarvis figs in the CMF...)

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Is there a possibility that Wanda's new costume is being included in the Endgame set? I haven't read any info ruling this out, and while obviously it wouldn't match the source material, I wonder if Lego were given enough info about the costume and knew the timing of this set, then it would make sense from a marketing point of view to have her new costume in it...? Just a thought, considering we haven't had a fig in 5 years to jump to two in one year (Endgame and WV) feels like a lot.

    Marvel Superheroes 2021 - Rumors & Discussion

Isn't it possible that they'll run with "iconic" designs for characters, rather than any specific MCU / comic designs? Eg for a potential Daredevil figure, going with one that the widest audience would recognise through merch etc rather than specifically designed for one or the other -- similar to Bucky as mentioned already? Am I right in thinking that the mystery (and potentially not-Marvel) D2C is a separate set to any of these? Sorry, I just can't remember if there was a set number attached, but the price was more expensive right?

It seems most of Europe will have these sets, as well as: 75242 Black Ace TIE Interceptor LEGO Star Wars Notebook with Gel Pen 20th Anniversary Darth Vader™ Link Watch Unclear what the exact discount %s will be, but the Action Battle sets are already discounted 15%. Is the US getting a sale at all? I don't see any mention of it on their May the 4th page, whereas there is a panel on other country's pages...
