    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

5 play sets - RoHT / RoR, 2nd Task, BoH, [remake] HE and [remake] WWW. (Does D2C Gringotts not count?) As for the Express, it's not primarily about improvements, it never was. A regular HE has never been off the shelves for more than 1/2 a year whenever there were HP sets, so it seems an unreasonable complaint. It's one of four sets that newcomers always "need" access to. (The Castle itself, Hagrid's Hut and the Knight bus being the others, the last two in less frequent intervals than the first two.) "weakest Hogwarts set ever produced" Do you mean the RoR? 😐 I love that set. Small footprint, clever building techniques (for a play set), piles of dangerously stacked stuff, Lupin's phonograph, the trophy room set!, creative ways to have the fire torch the lot... The walls are no less substantial than all the rest in the 2021+ modular style, which is always an issue, but no worse here than in the others. I find Fluffy Encounter far weaker, and Sirius' Rescue little better than that. Dumbledore's Office has good interiors (Library! Pince! Book action!) but the castle itself continues to be a hot mess. (How hard can it be to make a good castle?) Fine, the RoR sink is odd, but the 8x8 format is the plague. They should have included humpbacked witch's statue (or something else), but then that's more expensive. It felt like they tried harder than simply banging a turkey leg in the corner (and I really felt for that poor designer; the room is literally empty save the dog, instrument, and trap door). Plus the 2nd Task is a gorgeous little set. That was worth it all by itself.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Well I doubt we'd see another version of Scribbulus 😆, and someone pointed out the designers had commented on that being part of their motivation in selecting the locations for DA, but perhaps hinting at an affordable Gringotts down the line? With sets like Borgin & Burkes as strong possibilities, but that wouldn't have been as relevant a message atm. 10308 Holiday High street sold for $100 / 100 EUR last Christmas, so even with the licensing fees, it's conceivable it might still contain 2 buildings and look like a proper, if small, WWW + who knows... Edit: the super hero thing that could represent the Patronus Charm. Does anyone know if these fit on a wand? https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=35032&idColor=98#T=C&C=98

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I noticed neither the PB video nor the SW article repeated the Clock Tower rumour we heard in the PB video a few weeks back. Maybe it wasn't correct? (Fingers crossed... Bell Towers, baby!) Directed @ everyone, why do we think they're putting out a smaller scale DA shop now? I was wondering if, aside from giving us the twins for the BoH, it is in part to signal that they're going to make more accessible ($ £ EUR) versions moving forward in light of the ridiculously expensive Gringotts. Sort of pre-softening the blow, as it were. Side note, who else (beside almost all of the Death Eaters) feels like a glaring exception from the BoH, bearing in mind last year's figs still on the shelves (12GP / MoM)?

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I'd bet that wasn't what was meant, just that we've seen enough MOCs of what they're likely to bring by this point. The source material is the same for everyone, anyone designing a nanobuild of the castle and surroundings is likely to create something resembling all the rest. Just try rebrickable, "hogwarts", and search backwards by number of pieces and you'll find several exemplars in the first couple of pages. https://rebrickable.com/mocs/?q=hogwarts&sort_sets_by=2&sort_sets_dir=D We were spoiled by @bRICKbRAT's info. 😊 That took a lot of the wind out of her sails. I'd imagine many fans didn't have that information, however. I admit I may have chuckled at the "correct guess" that the BoH is a DH2 set. (It would never have occurred to me. 😉) That said and snark aside, she's very upbeat, and even when she admittedly dislikes something, she manages to be more positive than most people who supposedly love the stuff, so I find that a good deal more pleasant to watch if I'm forced to watch something. As many others here, though, I do wish she'd be clearer about what's known and what's speculative, because I dislike having to listen to it repeatedly to feel sure(ish) about it. (But again I'm not really a fan of videos anyway, so maybe that shouldn't count.) SW explicitly credited @Brick Clicker, fwiw. Also, I believe one photo was from the film (and literally the first result when I googled "battle of hogwarts harry voldemort"), and the other from the video game. You wouldn't want to use something watermarked, and here again, everyone is working from the same limited source material. The Quidditch trunk (and AC) was the set whose info seemed to diverge most. I'd bet it's a little messy in terms of explaining the number of figs included. The last trunk had only one fig officially listed on BL, McGonagall, and the ability to build a further five figs simultaneously, including one that was some version of Harry, but I believe none of the rest were "accurate" versions. Despite the Firsties and second years having exceedingly generic faces, and it including Hermione's, Ron's, Ginny's / Susan's, Draco's, and Neville's hairpieces, iirc, it had none of the faces that had previously been used for those characters. So technically it was a "Hermione-esque" and not a "Hermione" fig you built? 🤷‍♀️ But that was six possible figs. Only including four torsos at this price point would feel very off. I'm still hoping for a BoH 25th anniversary event. It would be nice to see the theme receive some love along the lines of "May the 4th be with you." Also some of the ones we're unsure of are the D2Cs and August releases. WWW and the Express / Hogsmeade Station are both slated for August.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

My impression from the way they speak about it is they know there is supposed to be a mine cart, some tracks, which somehow go "down" / "below", and that Gringotts is supposed to be compatible to DA, although they can't quite reconcile that statement with the other information. And that's it. Given how reliably they repeat those details, and the lack of variation, I'd say that's the extent of the description they were given. People who have seen a thing usually sound different. The PB website itself is a good deal more clear with what is known and unknown (which I appreciate for the same reasons you appear to), up to and including boldface for the word "speculation" which amused me. I'd have said the German version of the videos were clearer than the English as well, based on the fact there appears to be less confusion afterwards, except recently we couldn't seem to agree on that either, and I've since decided it's due to having a much smaller audience. lol Logically, if no one watches or understands what you're saying in the first place, no one can debate the meaning of what you've said.

But on the other hand! lol I just saw a new description on the PB site, where they list the set as including only 7 minifigs, so it's not clear. Then again, lego themselves often don't count non-character minifigs as minifigs in a set, like the statues in the new LotR set, or the Quidditch uniform mannequins in DA. @BacktoBricks, now that you point it out, it does rather resemble a contact lens. lol Well it definitely didn't occur to me, and the interpretation wouldn't have either, so thank you. Isn't there a shape like that that Spiderman uses?

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Thanks, @BrickMatit, I had already managed to forget the leak. It's far too early for information on a late summer / early autumn D2C. There are two possibilities, either PB don't know (because it's far too early, and which I consider the more likely version), or someone at lego trusts them enough to share the information with them with the expectation they won't share it with us. The result is the same either way, they aren't going to tell us until lego says it's ok.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

I thought from the way she listed the characters in the BoH set that the "guardian statue" will be a minifig; "So as for minifigures you will be getting...". Contrasted with the ones where she was specifically not sure ("the figures I expect will come in this set" & "so I'm thinking it will come with"), the WWW and Hogwarts Express & Hogsmeade Station sets. As expected, there doesn't seem to be any new info on Gringotts aside from emphasizing it should be compatible with DA, which is a help as I think we'd lost some confidence in that after the previous promobricks video. For the HE, I can't imagine we'll get our third Zabini and second Pansy this year, but who knows anymore. I found it interesting that she wasn't expecting Hagrid, I think he's been a popular guess, but either way, it's apparently still guesswork and we'll probably need to wait until May to know for sure. I'm chuffed about Scabior, black robed McGonagall and the statue. Still very surprised - but not dismayed - by the unusual departure for this theme to include victims and their killers in the same set. (Is this where the change in the theme's leadership shows?) The only killer in a scene that came to mind before this was Voldemort in the Rise of Voldemorts (75965 & 4766), but they both avoided including Cedric. The AT, by contrast, included neither Snape nor Dumbledore. But it's probably fair to go there in a set explicitly labelled BoH. The film wasn't exactly for the younger crowd either. On the other hand, I'm disappointed that they're re-releasing 2 of the 2022 AC figs, devaluing the calendar as a set even further. Off the list of nanobuild subjects, it also sounds like they're doing a Hogsmeade visit for the 2023 AC, including the Hog's Head, or at least the proprietor, before we know if they'll release a set for it, say in 2024, which would again devalue the previous year's AC. At least with the Yule Ball AC, it was released after the set it complimented, and you could decide if it was worth the repeated figures / items. That feels like a less cynical approach. If they go exclusively into nano build territory again, that's it for me. Then again if they use it as a chance to include BoH Ron, and maybe some other missing characters' DH2 versions... But that doesn't square with the "more Christmassy" description, particularly as Ron was absent for X-mas in DH1. Or is this the long awaited chance for a Bathilda Bagshot... She called it a "new wand element", explicitly said it would be just the one enclosed, and says it can be "clipped onto a wand", although I couldn't tell from how she phrased it if she'd actually seen it do so, or was just working from a description. I couldn't really picture anything from her "eye contact" description, but then again I can't see someone describing the old wands that way either, especially not when she's familiar enough with the theme (and Star Wars) to call them "old wands" or "light sabres". We've now had three consecutive years of Hogsmeade builds (2021 Three Broomsticks & Honeydukes, 2022 Shrieking Shack, 2023 Hogsmeade Station), so I think a Hog's Head and Zonko's next year would be well in keeping with what they've done so far. But then wishful thinking makes for a bit of bias...

Budget-wise, an accurate Elder Wand feels more like a collectible minifig inclusion, because they can't really reuse it the way they do the regular wands. (That said, I have quite a few Slytherin's lockets and Gryffindor's swords, so reuse might not be the issue I believe it to be. ) Has there been a CMF extra that was so sparse before?

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

You're in good company, though. When the 20th Anniversary special was first aired, they inadvertently used a childhood photo of Emma Roberts instead of Emma Watson. Apparently even some people in the industry confuse them. I'm calling balderdash on that rumour, though, as people don't tend to present things that way even if it were the truth. And while I've seen it repeated often enough, no one ever seems to have a source for it. Stille Post - dictionary says Chinese whispers? Anyone want to speculate on the Quidditch trunk? I'm thinking Quidditch uniforms from all four houses similar to last year's. This time the gloves / mittens would make more sense and lend themselves better to the different skin tones, so I think this will be part of a BYO sigfig / pro-diversity campaign, and help reflect the video games where you can build your own avatars. I don't think they'll give us many named minifigs (Draco, Cedric, Cho etc.), but we'll see hairpieces that could suggest established characters. With a bit of luck maybe they'll include more useful but less common hairpieces for some variety, although I suppose it was nice that it allowed for making your own "Hermione", "Ron", "Draco", "Ginny", "Neville", "Dean" etc for those with fewer sets. I'd appreciate older faces this time around. Last year we saw the inclusion of Harry and McGonagall (although I believe McG is the only one listed as an official inclusion); this round I'm hoping Lee as an announcer might make the cut, and perhaps another Hooch to round out the picture. She's a fan favourite anyway, and I think her last set was a S@H exclusive, and the one before a TRU GWP. @BrickBob Studpants, I see we're both thinking Lee might be a good fit, that feels encouraging. Is there another obvious use for all the trans blue parts? Like a Ninjago set, perhaps? I know they have sets based in / around water. Do they also have water dragons or a similar creature?

@Bugbot20082, now there's an idea. What are the chances it's Seamus instead of Neville? That's to say was your impression they were looking at / working from a text description or a picture? We've had that happen before where people less familiar with the material were forced to guess from small prelims and got things wrong. @BrickBob Studpants, re Dastan hair, I rather like it for Snape, but seeing it on everyone from Ron to Tonks becomes a bit much.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

@JeanGreyForever, good points about Luna, and somewhat ironic given I prefer her to Ginny as well. I think the films ruined her character somewhat for me, and the Oedipal complex her relationship with Harry suggests always made me somewhat uncomfortable. I assume some of the designers felt the same or they wouldn't have used the same hair piece for Lily Potter and Epilogue!Ginny. Still last year saw the appearance of every Weasley ever made, including the new addition of Percy, except Ginny, and here we seem poised for Molly, Fred and George, Ron will surely be included somewhere as well, and still no word on Ginny. I guess there's always the chance of a return to form with the AC complimenting the BoH set... @Accio Lego, perhaps it's Lupin's foggy Patronus. More seriously, is there any chance of a vignette of the scene where he teaches Harry to cast one based on what was said?

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Pleased to hear Scabior is in the pipeline, ditto (black dress) McGonagall, but 2/7 being a repeat of the AC, and vice versa, is something of a let down, and we've already seen one Clock Tower in the 2021+ modular series. This is supposed to be the third since the reboot? And still no Bell Towers? I can't figure them out. Also, what do they have against Ginny? We've seen fewer Ginnys than Lunas since the reboot, and she was in half the books / films.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

@Axxe90, no worries. Mileage varies. I took the attempt to recollect Gringotts not as an attempt to recall the lego set so much as to recall the layout of the building itself from the movies. As with the effort to remember the Hogsmeade Station, they don't seem as familiar with the source material so much as the stuff they've researched for their articles (they can't say if a thing is ever shown (Christian), and even knowing it appeared (Max), they don't know in which film(s); a viewer answered that for the station). Sorry, the "should" came with the final question (35:11) as to compatibility with DA. ("Aber das hast du ja grad gesagt." "Yap." "Es sollte, es sollte passen, na?" "Ich glaub' auf jeden Fall. Also das wär' ziemlich dumm, äh, wenn sie das nicht machen würden..."... "Für den Preis, bitte passend machen." ... "Ich hoffe, daß sich die Designer da zumindest mal ein Paar Kommentare der Fans dann durchgelesen haben und das ins Design haben einfließen lassen." While I'd agree it would be an odd choice not to make it fit, and you can safely make that statement in any event, "I think" and "I hope the designers listened to the fans" don't sound like knowing for me.) Plus, as Gringotts is a D2C we're expecting late summer / autumn, I'd be very surprised if Max (or Niki) had seen it. But either way it's pinning a lot on a few words, and with a little patience, we'll have the answers in time. I do agree they must have seen pictures of some of the rest from the summer, though... Hopefully there will be much less of a wait for that.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

@Axxe90, sorry, not quite. I went back and listened to the Gringotts section again. Christian thinks it will be interesting to see how lego do it, because he "can't picture it." Max speculated it might be like that Jabba set with the Rancor pit (4480 Jabba's Palace 2003), but we'd learn more in the very detailed article [from them] that would very certainly be appearing in the near future ... "just as soon as we get the information," Christian added, which (unless kidding) strongly suggests that they don't know at this time as opposed to them waiting for the "all clear". There was no information either way as to other inclusions or lack thereof. And Max seems sure that Gringotts should fit with the DA dimensions, but the use of the modal verb "should" means he isn't absolutely certain. It's not "will".

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

Only listening with one ear (long hair is a blessing) but there doesn't seem any new info at this point. The two recent additions to our list are (partly) exclusive, which is why we don't know a whole lot about them. [I take that to mean it's probably following the same pattern as the 2018 HE availability.] Names, piece count price and minifig numbers are known (and not new), but most of the rest is just a bunch of speculation. For example that the HE is without a motor, which I think most of us expected as well due to both name and price, and likely with only one car (price and piece count - 270 pieces more than the 2018 version - again). Less speculative, the WWW is apparently a "play set", more in keeping, by their interpretation from the info they were given, with the Hogsmeade set stores than the DA D2C WWW. @mark1991t, Weasleys are not confirmed in the WWW, but they said they can't imagine they wouldn't be included.

Thanks, @Salix, @mark1991t and @BrickBob Studpants. I think I was so focused on the BAM (Finally! Why is this not a monthly thing?), I completely missed that entry. @BacktoBricks, there's a tendency to blither (I find that's typical for YT as a whole ), but that's how promobricks introduces the news they have. News, then discussion thereof, much as we speculate on which figures we might see when we have only a number that will be included. And it probably seems far less blithersome if you're less versed in either lego or HP fandom than most folks here are... "There's something for Harry Potter fans, too, a new Hogwarts Express and an edition of Weasleys' Wizard Wheezes await us in the first half year. Max and I will explore the news with you and we look forward to hearing your opinions [in the li.ve.ch.at / comments]." Given they linked to their own article about the HE & WWW without teasing anything more, I'm not super optimistic we'll hear anything new to regulars here, but if they've seen pictures and are allowed to expand on those... I won't be able to listen in until late, perhaps @BrickBob Studpants can translate earlier? If not 23.00 / 24.00 ish CET.

Only once in the HP theme, hp316 appeared first in the 2021 Advent Calendar and then was reused in the 2022 Collector's Edition Hogwarts Express. Given that it was close to hp256 from 2020's Diagon Alley (different heads), maybe that doesn't count? Other than that, it was always the other way around, minifigs that were reused appeared first in sets, and then maybe a year later in an AC.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

In the story, the Battle of Hogwarts takes place on 02 May 1998, so this year would be the 25th anniversary. Given we're finally seeing an actual Battle of Hogwarts set, the first since the reboot, it would make sense for it to tie in with that somehow, at least for them to do some kind of promotional event.

    Wizarding World 2023 - Rumors & Discussion

@Yope I agree with @Murdoch17 that dark red probably wouldn't turn out well, but even more importantly than that, in this case I value compatibility more than improvement. I understand the need to re-release the Express, and I welcome it as part of the strategy that will keep the theme appealing to new collectors, but that also means I won't be picking up every re-visited set. If the 2023 HE is in the same colours as the 2018 HE, there's a chance I could repurpose some of it to add to my existing build. Instead of just being a question of the quality of the Hogsmeade Station and the minifigs, both of which are unlikely to be sufficient to persuade me on their own, how much of the train I can reuse helps move the needle on the decision to purchase (or not) a set that's already adequately covered in my HP set up.

@MaxHeadroom 1) I agree completely about making some version of DA accessible to children (or smaller budgets) as well, but if that's the goal, then I have to seriously wonder about gating Gringotts in a $430 set. And likewise, why include the play features there instead of continuing in the style of the 2020 DA D2C? Sounds like a mishmash. 2) They should be, yes. At least in Germany, initially the HE was a S@H exclusive, then it was S@H and TRUs, and only slowly did it become available at other stores. I just went back and checked. If you're interested, look here https://www.brickmerge.de/75955-1_lego-harry-potter-hogwarts-express click "PREISENTWICKLUNG ANZEIGEN" and then select the far right potion "alles Anzeigen". To the left of the graph you'll see that it was only sold at a few stores for quite some time. The first reduction in price wasn't until Smyths took over TRUs about a year after the initial release.

Congrats on the new addition, @Brick Wiz. (Is it too early to start them on Duplo?) It was a very nice MOC, btw. As for expectations... 2001 4708 HE 1st edition - PS Platform 9 3/4 2004 4758 HE 2nd edition - Hogsmeade Station (lite), PoA Lupin & Dementor 2004 10132 HE (2nd edition?) motorised - Hogsmeade Station (more proper), PoA Lupin & Dementor With the exception of 5378 (released in 2007), there were no new sets in the theme from 2006 through 2009. 2010 4841 HE 3rd edition - CoS Ford Anglia (but also Ginny and Luna?) There were no new sets in the theme from 2012 through 2017. 2018 75955 HE 4th Edition - Platform 9 3/4, PS / PoA Lupin & Dementor 2022 76405 HE Collectors' Edition - Platform 9 3/4, PS / PoA / HBP / Epilogue I'd say we were overdue for a Hogsmeade Station, plus it allows them to continue their Hogsmeade sets (without having to commit to it in a larger fashion as stand alones). The next HE should have the Anglia again if they stuck to the rota. They're fond of it anyway. I wonder if they'll bridge the gap with the Forbidden Forest spiders / Anglia rescue scene?
