Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Sir Kingston replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Thanks to @kurigan I've constructed a slightly more realistic boat. The bow section of the boat is a bit multi-coloured and the bowsprit isn't exactly desirable, but with some rigging, it might work well enough for the MCRA... -

To achieve the tapering towards the the stern are you physically bending the structure or are there some hinge pieces? -
Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Sir Kingston replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Speaking of not having the proper materials for a larger ship, here is my WIP. Rather than not having enough bricks, I have plenty, yet they are not well suited to shipbuilding. Nevertheless, I've created a small vessel, class 1 (maybe 2?), and I actually agree with Kurigan. Being somewhat of a perfectionist, I'd rather have a small but decent boat than a larger piece of modern art, maybe that's just me though... -
[GoC - COR] Raid on Cocovian Smugglers
Sir Kingston replied to Sir Kingston's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Snatch n’ Grab (extension of previous build, not GoC submission) Soon after their quick departure from the soft sands of the Cocovian, they encountered heavy resistance from the dastardly shrubbery- It was no match however for his corporal’s hanger. The smuggler’s path led right to their encampment, where they found two persons, having with them several pounds of the island’s best products. Karlton had them put in irons and read out his orders from the local government. The smugglers claimed to be traders from Eslandola, but clearly held no connections to any company or official organization. They also claimed that there were more traders, but Karlton wasn’t worried more as the whole operation would become charred ruins. His marines and the prisoners swiftly left the forest, only hearing a slight rumble from the destruction. They towed back to the merchant vessel, who had idly bobbled in the calm waters of the mid-afternoon waves. The soft breeze and the mild flap of the sheets left Karlton nothing to do but look out from the gunwales and ponder what lie ahead, there was always some talk of colonial claims possibly bringing the world powers to conflict, noting that the peaceful shores were just another innocent landscape yet to be tarnished by bitter blood. Karlton looked around, his marines were relaxing, the Sargent babbling on about some fish... https://www.flickr.com/photos/187742871@N04/shares/H0ua5H -

I was under the impression that a companion-way is a sort of staircase connecting all of the decks together? I found this picture, it may be useful to someone...? -

I might continue this storyline with another “Redcoats Rule” vignette... -

Entry for "Redcoats Rule" An Illicit harvesting operation was found near the shore on Cocovia, where Lieutenant Karlton led a small shore party to confiscate their stores and destroy their supplies. https://www.flickr.com/photos/187742871@N04/49758169323/in/photolist-2iNXCc6-2iP32ez-2iP1kVa- 166 replies

I appreciate the input! The way I understand it is that you participate in community events (like GoC) or once you have a ship, join a squadron and participate in fleet actions, or create installments to particular settlements? Just out of curiosity, are build challenges the only way to incorporate you character or are there other methods? I am getting straight to work on the GoC collaborations, and when I'm finished I just post it straight to the forum? Also Howe and Fletcher are rather familiar names from history :p -

That pretty much clears everything up! And personally I think that Terraversa is going to erupt soon, its location is too advantageous and enticing! :p -

Thanks for the help! Role-play aside, I know a fair amount about naval warfare in the mid to late age of sail. My sigfig is a marine junior officer, commanding a marine detachment aboard a ship or overseas garrison. Does this affect the way my character in any way? I understand the general dynamics between the factions, ship ratings, and the build competitions, and I read the trouble brewing of late, however I don't understand whether or not my sigfig is under direction of a particular fleet? Are there different fleets? (1st, 2nd, home, etc.) I have more questions but i'll try to scrounge up answers from the extensive forums (they're fun to read at least) but truthfully, I am just trying to figure out where I would start of fit into this extensive and convoluted plot-line :) -

2nd Lieutenant Karlton of the Royal Corrington Marines, As the son of a middle-class gunsmith, Karlton is well versed in musketry. Karlton is quite fresh, having just joined the service. He is very devoted to Corrington, an independent thinker, and a firm believer in logic. (pardon my profile name, it's a running joke ;) -
