Shipwrights Guild Hall (WIPs, feedback, and advice)
Sir Kingston replied to Bregir's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I recommend Stephen Biesty's Cross-Sections Man-of-War, gives a fairly insightful look of life and design of a 1st rate, also try some of the british maritime museum's archives, you might find something... -

Newest WIP, the stern is quite clunky and seems off, but I like hull so far. 10 Gun brig as of now but I might add a bow chaser... (also taking name suggestions) https://www.flickr.com/photos/187742871@N04/shares/50c4ea -
[GoC - COR] Raid on Cocovian Smugglers
Sir Kingston replied to Sir Kingston's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I love Bernard Cornwell’s books, however I’d say Karlton is far less of a rogue than Sharpe! -
After a merchant vessel noted a fire and what appeared to be shipwrecked sailors, closer inspection a patrol vessel showed possible signs of illicit activity. Lieutenant Karlton had just arrived to the King's Harbour where he was to be temporarily garrisoned. A naval officer approached him and tasked him with the investigation and destruction of possible criminal activity. Karlton was given two boats, some explosives, and 10 Royal Marines. Unlike many of his peers, he preferred to carry a musket, which brought many rumors. One Marine suggested he was a poor sergeant who rose up from the ranks, a corporal replied, "Nonsense, he's fresh from academy", another junior officer overheard their conversation and retorted saying, "Mr. Millbrooks, that's enough, you know better than to question a Queen's Officer." This officer was unsure himself of him, and noted that he was well groomed, but seemed to be both nervous and agitated. Karlton however, was entirely unawares of this and continued his preparations. He was indeed nervous, but attempted to hide that through his rough tone. He was off to a late start already, and the private vessel that was to ferry him out, had been waiting for almost half an hour. Karlton paid the captain, and they were off. As they rowed toward the shore, the faint glint of a looking glass was seen ashore. Not wanting an opposed landing, he disembarked swiftly and led shore party into the forest. "Redcoats Rule" Task 1

[GoC - COR] Cocovian Watchtower
Sir Kingston replied to Sir Kingston's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
I might do that, I haven’t licensed it in any way so that might work! -
On Hussar's Isle, Cocovia, an abandoned watchtower caught the attention of the local authorities, as such an emplacement could bolster the defense of the island. Another landing party was assembled, this time with a detachment of Marines and the newly implemented Naval Engineering Corps. This experimental unit consisted only of officers and midshipman, due to the complexity of their trade. Lieutenant Karlton was, of course, assigned this monotonous task. Karlton was quite displeased, while the other officers got assigned to glorious ship of the lines, he got to be an overseer. The local Marine captain warned him, saying that he shouldn't be too aggressive, most of those officers are better learned and ranked than he was! Karlton, much to his surprise, was given command of HMS Juniper, an unarmed cargo sloop. (I now have a thread with a more refined and licensed HMS Juniper) Once again, he walked across the dock and loaded his vessel, anchored in King's Harbour, and set out to another remote and unnoticeable spit of shore. Once they arrived, a small jolly boat was found and the engineering team surveyed and inspected the condition of the structure. The town's expert mapmaker was also hired and was to work with the engineer's to determine the exact location and feasibility of such an emplacement. A map of the Cocovian locality was provided and the Naval Engineers reviewed the information. I wasn't anything new, but with a better understanding of the structure, they concluded that it was unlikely that the tower would be around for much longer. The Naval Engineer's commander, Captain Vaughn, found from the jolly boat, that the foundation would be terribly waterlogged, and that the water had rendered it unsalvageable. The night grew dark, and Karlton suggested they turn back to port. Karlton pretended that it was that the Admiralty would be dissatisfied if the information were any delayed than necessary, but really it was the tough of an unarmed sloop within the range of hostile guns. It probably wasn't a valid concern, but being an untested junior officer, he only knew the stories. Still, Karlton wondered what lay ahead, surely a Queen's officer in the Royal Corrington Marines had more in store for him than menial chores. Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List (Vol 5, Issue 2)
Sir Kingston replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
Not only is the armament far superior in terms of penetration, shot weight, and the quality of cannon itself, the range of the heavier guns should have battered the Lotiis from a safe distance. But as it was said previously, the way the game is balanced so that no ship is undefeatable... -
Great work! It's small, but serves its purpose well.

Great work on the buildings, really like the pastel colours! -
HMS Juniper is a small sloop (Class 2) armed with a single 24 Pounder on a turntable. Juniper has a fore and aft rig allowing her decent maneurveribility and range. She has little storage below the waterline, meaning she carries quite a bit on the deck! She is not intended for long ocean voyages, but rather an experimental light merchant vessel which carries a large calibre gun. I'm not sure where she'll be destined for, as my sigfig is currently on Island 12... First BoBs Ship!

Kings Port Advertiser and Ship List (Vol 5, Issue 2)
Sir Kingston replied to Capt Wolf's topic in Brethren of the Brick Seas
32 pounder gunports are fairly large, perhaps they got in though there? Quite unconventional, and with a Royal Marine detachment of at least 140-60 privates and 11-13 officers (using HMS Victory's crew of a 106 gun 1st rate adjusted for 134 guns) shooting down on them, which in the 1770s would be half of a line regiment (approx 360 privates or a company in the Napoleonic Wars where there were about 2000 men in a regiment). The seamen of various trades would number around 700-800, this means the crew could be close to 1,000! They might have boarded through the stern cabin's windows?, gunports?, or maybe the sheer volume of boarding ropes were overpowering? I'm sure there's something that happened! -
