    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I'm personally all for a remake of the great hall at some point in the next few years, maybe around 2023. The great hall itself is the wrong shape and the tower has numerous issues like its height, lack of turrets (even the 2001 version had a representation of the turrets) and lack of larger upper level. It would also be nice if the tower was more complete instead of just literally half the tower which makes it look bad from most angles. I also wouldn't mind a remake of the Hungarian horntail but that can wait awhile. Im fine with them doing remakes as long we're still getting new stuff regularly, nothing feels like it's being held back (for example if we don't get the slytherin and Hufflepuff common rooms soon) and the remakes are easy to skip without interesting exclusive figures or something. I would prefer one or two useless remakes per year to expand the line over the abundance of novelty side products like advent calendars, polybags, GWPs, book exclusive figures, buildable books, mosaics, ect.

I'd love to get a durmstrang ship at some point but it's probably at the bottom of large HP sets I would want. I would prioritize Gringotts, battle of Hogwarts, PS challenges, chamber of secrets, Grimmauld Place, and even a larger OOTP castle extension over the Durmstrang ship/second task set. I also think it might be good to save it until the first task and carriage set are out of production.

With three students per house I imagine there would be a sweater student, robe student, and quidditch student. While I think slytherin and Griffindor sets like this would be popular since there are many recognizesble characters and the con rooms were actually in the films I don't think the Hufflepuff and ravenclaw sets would be too successful.

Including sets that aren't part of the main waves, D2Cs, and repeating sets for multiple movies is an interesting approach but I think it just makes things more confusing. It seems like LEGO is/was giving each film roughly $200 with the exceptions of PS/COS (due to the first wave being more uncertain and having FB sets) and OOTP (for no reason at all afaik). Ideally each time would have 200 with the exceptions of PS and COS having a bit more since their 2018 sets were fairly general and DH1 having a bit less since there isn't as quite as much good material for sets (and now after seeing how they've treated OOTP I doubt we will get more than a single set from DH1). I'm sure we will get more from OOTP at some point but I don't think it will ever be proportional to the other films. Over time the LEGO HP line will become increasingly focused on the earliest and most marketable/popular films the same way Star Wars has. Also there's no reason to worry about us not getting a chamber of secrets set. Kids and collectors have wanted one since the first wave ended and I'm sure LEGO will release one in 2022 for the film's 20th anniversary. I've been saying exactly this since these sets were announced. Making the books themed around class books would've prevented LEGO from having to include the Cho and Cedric figures. LEGO also could've made classes that weren't taught by the heads of house if they thought their schoolbooks weren't memorable enough. I would've loved a DADA classroom themed around Magical Me. I also would have appreciated a common room wave since LEGO isn't including them with the main sets (although I'm not sure how marketable the Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw common rooms are).

Hedwig and the BB carriage are completely separate issues. The carriage didn't feel like it was taking away space from anything else. I think the Shrieking shack (or anything from homemade) would've been nice to get and I'm sure everyone here has a set or two they really want to see from POA/GOF but if LEGO never released any more sets from those films I think we would have a solid assortment that accurately represents the major points of those films. While the theme of other schools coming to Hogwarts was already represented in the clock tower set (and to an extent the horntail set) the carriage isn't taking away from anything. It also helps that the only other throwaway sets that year were an advent calendar and the BYOA book so 2019 wasn't too frustrating or expensive for people trying to collect everything. The hedwig set was released at the same time as an expensive D2C, a minifigure wave, various minor releases (book with minifigure/polybag/accessory pack/brickheads GWP/advent calendar), and only a few months before an art set and an entire wave of buildable books (plus another GWP). It's yet another minor release in a year that didn't really need minor releases at all. One wave, a giant D2C and a minifigure wave would've been enough for 2020. Hedwig however is unique among all those other side releases in that it is part of the main wave. I have no issue with a buildable creature taking up a slot in the summer wave the same way I have no issue with a set from a previous film taking up a slot in the summer wave as long as the main films are well represented. I don't think the main films were well represented this year. HBP could've used an inferi cave set (or anything to represent Harry and Dumbledore's search for horrocrux) but I think what we have for that film is fine. I don't think we have a solid representation of OOTP though. Looking at US prices OOTP has $50 worth of sets, PS/COS have around $150, and POA/GOF/HBP have around $200. I'm not sure that balance could be considered "pretty good". If this is what the balance is like while the line has a 2 movies per year structure I think it will get even worse when that structure is lost.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I think HP could have worked well as a 5 year theme with each year covering 2 films and a final year to wrap everything up but I doubt that will happen. The focus is already being lost with Advent calendars, book exclusive builds, buildable large scale creatures, accessory packs, book exclusive figures, and buildable books/classrooms. It's frustrating for collectors and makes collecting the theme and trying to get everything far less appealing. My main issue with it though is that it seems to be affecting the sets themselves. 2018 gave us the basics of any HP line of LEGO with a focus on years 1/2, 2019 gave us everything we would need from years 3/4 except a Sheieking Shack (and maybe a second task set or Durmstrang ship), 2020 gave us solid representation of year 6, expanded year two, an owl, and also a bit of year 5. I wouldn't call 2020 the worst year for the LEGO HP reboot but it certainly has the worst main wave. It feels like key sets are being held back for the sake of saving them for later and spreading out the interesting sets.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Unless the set is based on DH Crabbe/Goyle need to come as a pair. There is no real issue with Malfoy being in the potions set. Malloy is a necessary inclusion in the potions set because the only mass release sets containing Malfoy are quite expensive. I also the Hufflepuff book needs to include a hufflepuff student even if they are wearing a robe instead of a redesigned torso print. These book sets are aimed at children even more than the standard sets. The characters were chosen to please kids and the updated teachers and new torsos were included to please collectors. The proper Hogwarts expansion sets are really the only place I could see us ever getting obscure characters which is why I find the party themed minifigures in those sets so frustrating. Even then some of the characters we are getting with these books are more obscure (Cho, Cedric, and Seamus weren't in the first decade of this theme). I wouldn't have been surprised if LEGO included one of the trio or even Harry in every single set.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I think the reason they chose the characters they did is because they wanted these sets to be based on the first two films since most of the sets based on those films were meant to be out of production by now. The options for recognizable non-Griffindor characters from those films are incredibly limited leading to the odd characters that were included.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

These sets are cute but they are a bit frustrating. I know the connection between the book theme and the class is the head of house but it would've been far more interesting if these classroom based sets had exteriors based on the class (advanced potions making for potions for example). Then maybe the house themed books could be saved for common rooms or something. The other thing is the new torso prints. If they're a permanent change then, why? It wouldn't make any sense but I won't worry about that right now until we know it's a permanent change. I would guess this is just either a 20th anniversary thing or something to make the figures in these sets slightly more desirable and exciting. This issue of course being the lack of Hufflepuff torso. Maybe they wanted both figures in the herbology set to have robes or they could only afford one print, either way it makes things feel incomplete without a Hufflepuff torso. I appreciate that they tried to give us something new and exciting but as much as I love new prints I think this time they should've just reused the old prints.

If the MBOM is a promo for these then I will buy the wave, otherwise I will skip these or at least wait until they are heavily discounted and I have enough money set aside to buy all of the summer 2021 sets I care about.

Whatever they do with Grindewald it won't work regardless of who's playing him since his redemption in the deathly hallows was removed from the films. BOT Do people even want more Fantastic Beasts sets? I watched both films the day they were released and haven't rewatched them since so my memory probably isn't the best but I can't really remember anything that would make an interesting set, aside from what we already have and maybe the ministry battle from the end of the second film (although I'm sure 90% of consumers would prefer a ministry battle set from OOTP). Actually maybe we didn't get a ministry set this year because they were planing a COG ministry set? Does anyone have any ideas for FB based sets based on the existing movies? Perhaps I'm missing something but I really can't think of much that would work as a LEGO set.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Removing Depp is certainly an interesting choice especially considering the controversies around him have been overshadowed. What does it mean for LEGO? Not much. They probably would have needed to make a new face print for Grindewald anyway since the original was missing the mustache (if I'm remembering the situation correctly). I completely forgot about Fantastic Beasts when I was looking at the price list. Hopefully a few of those sets are from Fantastic beasts so I won't need to get them. The summer 2020 wave is ridiculously expensive and with the extra winter wave and with 2020 being a more expensive year I think LEGO HP may be spreading itself a bit too thin. The focus next year should be on DH with a few of sets to fill in some gaps. 2021 is probably the last year that LEGO HP will be interesting. After that it will likely go the way of Star Wars with many sets being remakes with minor improvements and exclusive figures to entice collectors and a few interesting new sets, with most of the line being focused on the more marketable and nostalgic films.

Why not just keep DA and buy the other sets when you can afford them? You're probably going to be loosing 75 on DA when you have to get it again later (maybe it will decrease in price slightly in a few years but idk). I would recommend just keeping what you have and buying the other stuff later. If you're really desperate to get the other stuff now then sell sets you actually don't want.

Finally found the flitwick figure. If I wasn't told it was flitwick I wouldn't have noticed it. It really could just be a generic LEGO hobbit minifigure. Maybe it's because he isn't wearing his dark green robe which appears in every pic I've seen of PH/COS Flitwick? The minifigure is just wearing the gold striped waistcoat and light green coat. No robe unfortunately which I think is key his appearance. The grey legs are also throwing me off but I'm not sure those will be on the actual figure since at the bottom of the torso you can see a bit of dark brown under the waistcoat. It's fine I guess but I don't get the hype.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I really hope we don't get a wedding tent. I doubt LEGO will produce more than one tent in a single wave and I think the main tent the trio uses in DH1 is more important than the wedding tent, plus it would double as our annual forest set. While on paper the wedding tent seems like a great idea since LEGO loves releasing sets based around parties, in practice I don't think it would work because the previous party sets were $100. The set would have to be large and expensive enough to include at least the trio and Bill/Fleur which would require 5 new torso prints (which can only be used once) and a new face print for Bill. Plus that's just the essential figures, I'm sure LEGO would want to include a few more characters. It would have to be around $50-60 and I don't know how they could make the tent worth that price. Actually I would be incredibly surprised if LEGO made more than one DH1 set next year. It's clear they're loosing interest in producing sets to accurately represent the individual movies and are instead focusing on whatever random sets they want to. A forest and tent is probably all we will get.

I know everyone is excited for LEGO to make more sets from years 1/2 but I hope they keep he focus on DH and have at least one of the non-DH sets be based on OOTP. LEGO had a more scattered approach to releasing sets this year. I appreciate getting more from 1/2 and I think we have a solid amount of stuff from HBP (especially when you include the WWW module) but it's obvious OOTP was a bit neglected. I don't expect much but I would appreciate literally anything to give us a bit more from that film.

Are mass release LEGO waves typically numbered from smallest to largest? I usually don't pay much attention to them. If so then we're getting a four set wave with various exclusives and possibly a small second wave?

Technically they already remade the dueling club but cancelled it late into production. It was part of the Great Hall prototype.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I never said they were or that they should be. I wasn't aware the common rooms were included as I wasn't able to read the article (I'm not very fluent in reading German) and most of what I read here only talked about them as classrooms. I really don't see why me saying LEGO could've themed the classrooms around schoolbooks instead of houses means I should be given a lecture about how LEGO is for kids though. I never said the sets shouldn't get made, I actually said the opposite and suggested a second wave.
  24. MaxHeadroom

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I think LEGO made a mistake by giving us house themed books for classrooms. Ideally these house books would include the common rooms and a second wave could include classrooms and have the books themed around schoolbooks like advanced potion making.
  25. I'm actually a bit excited to see the new TIE and X-Wing sets. I've been rebuilding my childhood Star Wars sets over the summer and while I had a lot of cool things like the 2007 MTT and 2002 Slave 1 I was a bit disappointed when I realized I didn't own an X-Wing or standard TIE so I have been in the market to buy them. I think streamlining and reducing the cost for X-Wings and TIEs is a good move. Over the years as the play scale versions have gotten more detailed and complex they've understandably increased in price making them more challenging for kids to obtain then they should be. It's also good for afols/collectors as it leaves room for more expensive sets to be based on things that wouldn't have been made otherwise.
