    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I have sympathy for them. People want to have complete collections and I don't blame them. This year we're getting a 6 set wave, 2 Brickheads sets, an expensive D2C, a minifigure wave (now with the new higher price in the US), a polybag, a book with exclusive minifigure, and an advent Calendar. That's enough. Even people who just want the minifigure stuff still have a lot to collect more than the last two years since now they have to spend $400 on a D2C. Also while these sets may be out for awhile there will also be another wave in a year. This year we're already getting 2 $100 sets and a $70 set so I think we're good on large sets. We also have a $20 and $30 set so I think we're good with small sets. There is a bit of a gap for a mid-range set though even when you include the buildable owl. I'd be down for an-otter $50 set but not the Chamber of Secrets. This wave is meant to represent OOTP/HBP and we already have 1 COS set. COS already uses more of the budget than OOTP and I feel it would a bit overboard to give it as many sets as OOTP and HBP. If anything I think we should get a midrange ministry set like Kingnono mentioned awhile ago. We know LEGO planned for HP to be an evergreen theme when they were bringing it back and with how successful it has been it probably will be. There will be plenty of time for them to release a Chamber if Secrets set and sets from other previously covered films later. One of the best things about the HP reboot is that LEGO uses it sparingly. It's reasonably manageable for your average kid or collector to get the whole line (when excluding the things that aren't minifigure scale) this then encourages kids and collectors to attempt to do so.

I really doubt we will get a COS set. LEGO going back and doing privet drive this wave is a one off. They're not going to have as many COS sets as they are the films the wave is supposed to be based on. If there is a hidden set it will be the ministry battle but don't get your hopes up just in case. Tom of course referring to Tom Riddle which is the name kingnono used because a V in the anagram would've given away Voldemort too quickly plus we wouldn't be able to speculate about other Toms. Have we considered that the Tom in question may be Tom Felton? Perhaps there's a Malfoy figure we don't know about in one of the sets or in the minifigure series.

Only issue with this theory is him saying the riddle was for "the next few days" which probably means it's about a set that will be revealed soon so not Diagon Alley.

I feel like they would avoid that as it would conflict with the book that's coming out.

The original leaks told us there were three small sections. Maybe I misread something though.

I'm a few hours late to the ROR discussion but I hope the 3 room of requirement 'modules' have plates with door rails on the side. Then the AT set could include another 'module' with the vanishing cabinet and some items in the room of hidden things like the diadem. These modules could all slide in and out of the AT allowing you to form whatever room you wanted. Maybe he's actually one of us posting, leading us down false trails whenever he posts a hint on IG The real Kingnono was the friends we made along the way.

I know I watched this when it first came out but couldn't remember anything about it and after rewatching it I realize why. The pitch is literally just Harry and friends acquire Merlin's beard (no explanation is given as to why this is important) and battle a WB villain other than Voldemort with the movie being a parody of the high school movie genre. Not very much to go on is it? I guess it could've worked but the pitch would definitely benefit from being a bit more in depth. Pointless to discuss anyway though as it will never happen with the new universal deal.

Christ I hope it isn't illumination. It would probably look worse than those straight to DVD movies LEGO used to release (do they still do those?) you would completely miss all of the amazing detail, dust, and a cracks we got with the previous movies. Though Illumination may be more likely since they're already working with LEGO on the minions merchandise. Dreamworks could give us a LEGO Shrek cameo. Actually just remake the Shrek movies with LEGO. Don't even bother re-recording the dialogue. I'd watch that, not sober but at least I'd watch it which is more than I can say for the LEGO Ninjago Movie.

I don't think anyone is shocked by it. People just dislike it.

I hate to say it but the great hall, despite being the centerpiece of the new line isn't a very good representation of the buildings it's representing. I hope in around 5 years we get those buildings remade (hopefully LEGO will continue this pin connection system for castle sets long into the line's future instead of changing it again). The Great Hall itself has amazing detailing but the building is too short and I think the 2010 version is a better example of the overall shape. The Courtyard section could definitely be improved aswell but the main issue with that set is the staircase tower. The tower being only 50% complete makes it almost always look awkward at most angles and it doesn't help that the other castle sections have to attach from behind the tower which draws more attention to it. They should have either given us 5/8th if the tower like the 2010 set and have buildings attach from the side or ideally give us as much of the tower as the microscale version. The tower was also too short for my liking and missing some of its most iconic features like the smaller turrets coming out of the roof and the larger section of the tower right under the roof (even the 2001 version managed to include this). To me the 2018 version shows that LEGO wasn't completely confident in the theme and wanted to condense some structures into a single set in case the line didn't last very long. It's still a great set but it definitely isn't perfect and it's the only set from the reboot so far that I think LEGO could improve. I do hope that LEGO never makes a minifigure scale Hogwarts D2C. Like @Guyon2002 said that's what the normal sets should be for. Not including a figure would be better. Including an exclusive figure just feels like a desperate attempt to get minifigure scale LEGO collectors interested.

It's a good option for scalpers but someone who missed out on the promotion has to pay $80 for the GWP alone.

The previous GWP is $80 on eBay. I don't think ebay is a very good option.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Now that we know there's a GWP I'll have to force myself to wait to buy at least one of the sets in case it comes when I don't have money for the DA set or if it comes later in the year. I'll probably determine which set to wait on when we finally see the sets. I haven't been able to afford the other micro sets (and I hate minifigures being exclusive to promotions in general) but it wouldn't hurt to have. I suppose this could mean the next D2C is hogsmeade (2022?) which would be a nice $200 set.

A bit disappointed that these books are our leak for the day. I'm sure kids will enjoy them but they're not really my thing. The backdrops that come with the Harry/Malfoy book sound mildly interesting, but they would have to be rather large to actually look decent with the sets. The concept reminds me of 4721, 4722, and 4723 from 2001. I still haven't picked up the BYOA book, $25 felt a bit too expensive for me considering I would probably only ever flip through the book once. Did those who got it enjoy it? Maybe I'll pick it up if it's cheap enough at some point.

You don't enjoy conversations about a new leak slowly devolving into discussions about the durability of different types of LEGO stickers and the conditions and colors that make them deteriorate or loose their adhesive? As interesting as I find the speculation and all the strange discussions it has led to, it would be nice to finally see some new sets after 176 pages of discussion.

"Next weekend" refers to the weekend of May second/third in our case. Though perhaps the original person who made the claim is using the term incorrectly.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Usually the upcoming weekend is called "this weekend" and the one after is "next weekend". This would mean we don't get anything until May. I hope your media page is wrong, or misspoke or something. Have we ever waited until May for images of a June HP wave before? With the polybag already revealed I don't think LEGO will wait that long to reveal the main sets. Maybe the full wave will be revealed May 2nd with most sets being revealed earlier like how we had to wait for official images of the Knight Bus last year.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I totally agree with this. The people talking about these sets on a forum are not the target demographic of polybags. Neither are the people who would buy multiples of the polybag to get lots of ravenclaw or Hufflepuff uniforms to populate their castles. Polybags are ways for kids to get an important character, some accessories, and a small build. It's a way to get them interested in the main line so they ask for the sets as gifts or to let them expand their existing lineup of sets on a budget. People who already have all the sets and a surplus of Harry figures and Griffindor robes are simply not who polybags are made for.
  19. MaxHeadroom

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

This probably wouldn't work. Polybags are primarily impulse buys for children. How many kids will buy polybags of Luna and Cedric? Luna already comes wearing her Hogwarts uniform in the ROR set and is available in the next minifigure series and Cedric is included in the Triwizard Tournament set. Harry would sell, Draco might sell, but Luna and Cedric would be pegwarmers. The number of people buying multiples would not balance out the general public. I think our best hope for getting more Ravenclaw, Slytherin, and Hufflepuff torsos is getting more Hogwarts sets that aren't based around scenes where all the characters are wearing special costumes like the clock and astronomy tower sets or maybe some sort of LEGO store exclusive pack of figures. I'm still glad that we even have Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw torsos in the first place. It seemed impossible before the reboot.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

You were setting yourself up for disappointment if you expected anything other than Harry in Hogwarts robes. These sets are made for kids after all, especially the cheaper sets and polybags. A kid isn't going to be able to go on Bricklink and order a Harry in Hogwarts robes figure. Their only option to get a robed Harry at the moment is to buy the great hall set which is quite expensive.

The only figure of Ginny we know we're getting is from the burrow set. She will already be a fifth year at that point so she will have normal legs.

    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

I'm honestly not a huge fan of the polybag. We already had the great hall set and the Advent calendar, did we need more great hall stuff? This reboot has as many GH tables outside of the GH set as we had in the first decade of the theme. It's a nice way for kids who can't afford the great hall set to have some bits to help them make their own but didn't we already get that with the advent calendar? This would be a cool polybag to release after the Great Hall is retired and before LEGO is ready to make another one. But it's not a great time for it right now. If LEGO wanted to make a polybag to feature the new Hedwig then I think they should've made an Owlery polybag. The owlery has only been made once in the reboot and I think it could use some expansion (plus the WW set will almost certainly be retiring soon while the Great Hall might last a bit longer). Include a small perch for Hedwig and then a small table and quill for Harry (with the table being bigger and more detailed than the single brick table in the WW owlery, similar to the table build in the smaller room of Hagrid's hut). If the goal of the polybag was to keep the broom piece in an affordable set then they should've made a remake of the broom cart set (7411) minus the Draco figure.

I suppose the AT figures being so lackluster means that they've put all their effort into the build, so hopefully it will still be a nice castle addition.
