Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
MaxHeadroom replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I've avoided modifying my sets in any way because I know that once I start I'll never stop. Plus since these castle sets are still on the market I'm sure I would probably start buying multiples of the castle sets to use for parts instead of buying the other sets from the line. Better for my wallet to avoid it. -

At least we will probably be getting Grimmauld Place in the advent calendar. -

Room of requirement is designed for both sides to be on the interior. It connects on the inside of the AT (there is an additional set of holes for pins on the right of the entrance hall facing inward. -

I'm guessing it's because they probably won't have all of the modules on the market for much longer. The Whomping Willow probably won't be around during most of the AT's lifespan and they don't want kids buying it in a few years and seeing sets they can't get anymore. -

He was kind of right that they were releasing in August in the US but the sets themselves are still releasing in June. -

I've never paid much attention to the designers but I'm definitely going to follow him. It's also awesome to know he is part of the LGBT community. -

Only looking good from one angle is relatively forgivable here as most people will probably displayed it by itself (we probably won't be getting more sets from this location) so it can always be turned to that specific angle. I only have an issue with this kind of thing when other sets be to be displayed with it in a certain way which can make half builds look awful (the great hall being a good example of this). -

It looks like all 3 areas in the AT set can separate. Also I'm guessing these pin holes leading from the hallway is where the ROR is meant to attach. -

Obviously these sets are going to be less exciting since your standards are already quite high after the first two years. I think you're forgetting that the first two waves have issues too. I wouldn't call the great hall set as a whole trash (though the hall itself has flaws I won't get into) but the tower attached to it is. The tower build itself has issues like the missing turrets, shortness, only being half the tower (which makes it look bad at most angles), and the top level is the same size as the rest of the tower which was a detail that even the primitive 2001 tower managed to capture, but the major issues with that set come from the interior of the tower. Every single room in that tower is trash. The random spiral staircase hall could work if it led to dumbledore's office but it doesn't, it leads to a potions room. The potions room is inferior to the WW version which was released the same year and makes the GH one completely pointless. I have no idea what the third room is meant to be, Dumbledore's storage room? Completely useless. Then there is the top "floor" which "houses" the mirror. The mirror is too big for it and combined with the whole "half tower" thing can be seen at most angles from the outside. There also isn't actually any room for a figure to stand while the mirror is there unless you want them smashing their face into it, again pointless. 4/5 Great Hall rooms are useless, I would say only 2/7 rooms in the AT are completely useless (entrance hall and Potions class #3) the rest are new and actually appear in the story (Astronomy telescope, astronomy classroom, ravenclaw common room, Slughorn's office,Greenhouse). And I can at least understand the inclusion of the potions/party room here so I would argue against that room being completely pointless. Other 2018 sets had issues too like the trio in the HE set not having mid-legs and the Harry and Ron figures being reused, the CMF being filled with robed versions of characters we could've just gotten in sets, the Hogwarts D2C being micro scale (which many people didn't like), and the existence of a bricktober pack which had a VERY messy distribution due to TRU being shut down. The 2019 sets also had issues like Fleur's dress being unprinted in the Yule ball set, Madam Maxime's hair in the Carriage set, the blandness of the Triwizard tent, the Hungarian Horntail in general, Victor Krum's faceprint, the existence of the Carriage set, and Wormtail's hair. EVERY year is going to have issues with the some of the sets and some of the figures. You just raised your expectations too high. I honestly think these are some of the best sets we've gotten. The ROR not only has a superior build to the previous $20 set but it has 3 exclusive minifigures as opposed to the 1 exclusive figure from the Expecto Patronum set. The Forbidden Forest set is also better than the Triwizard tournament set. The brick built creature included is as good as it could've been unlike the brick built dragon which could've easily been improved with a new head mould, thinner legs, longer neck, ect. The tree side build is also much more of a build and far more interesting than the tent which was a few panels with some stickers inside. The figures are also equal to those included with the dragon set. Not only are there more figures but an all new centaur mould and the new Umbridge figure which is one of the best in the entire rebooted line. Privet Drive probably isn't as good as the whomping willow but that doesn't mean it's bad. I've already explained my thoughts on the AT and compared it to the previous set of that price so I won't repeat myself. The Burrow while it has lackluster figures has an amazing build which is likely what took up most of the budget for the set. It has 196 more pieces than the Great hall and yet it's the same price. It's shaping up to be a great year for this theme and we still haven't even seen everything we're getting this year. There's still Diagon Alley, the minifigure series, the mystery set (UCS Dobby's Sock), -

Just2good said that Hedwig was exclusive to B&N and the Burrow was exclusive to Target in the US. However both sets are on the US LEGO store labeled "coming soon" along with the other new sets. How does this work? -

I'm slightly disappointed by the inclusion of the R common room. I know we were warned about it but I thought the leaker might have made a mistake. I would have preferred the G common room with the fireplace/Sirius play feature we saw with the 2010/2007 castles. I also would've preferred Umbridge's office. I suppose those are more OOTP than HBP and this line is trying to be accurate but then I look and the Ron figures. We seriously don't have a single accurate Ron from OOTP/HBP. The AT Ron has those strange long sleeves and the Burrow Ron is wearing his costume from POA instead of the sweater over the AT shirt like in the movie. I knew we wouldn't get a new print for the sweater but they could've at least included the AT figure with the burrow so it could be a bit closer to the actual film. -

Also why is Hermionie's hair different between sets? She uses the 2010 hair in 2 sets and the 2019 hair in 1 set. -

Do we know for sure when/where these are releasing in the US? I'll probably get everything day one bar Hedwig, brickheads (just not interested) Privet Drive, and maybe GITFF (I'll put $100 worth of sets off as I'll need something for the GWP). Well, I'll get everything day 1 if it's available at Barnes and Noble and I can use a 10% discount. Also I hate to spoil the fun but where is The ministry battle/chamber of secrets/Bassilisk expansion pack/UCS dobby's sock mystery set Kingnono mentioned? -

I can't find the (fake?) Sirius torso. Was it the same custom one we saw last year that was supposedly real? -

Did we see the Harry from GITFF? I'm interested in how they will differentiate that figure from the CMF version. -

I think the set will look quite different from that moc. The moc looks more like what LEGO would've produced for the AT in 2004. Too many empty "windows" for the current style. Plus the color scheme is too messy for the current line with the grays used in the tower itself. The top two floors are relatively close to how I imagine LEGO would make the top 2/3rds of the build though. Just add another floor beneath those that is shorter and cleaner than the one in the moc, a small section of castle similar to the small tower included with the Clock Tower set (mainly for stability) and a Greenhouse. -

The HS castle looks nice from what I can tell. I'll wait until the proper images get revealed to judge if I want to buy it for my HP display though. -

No one else should contact Kingnono. I'm sure most of you don't need to be told that but I want to make sure that Kingnono doesn't get bombarded with messages. They may ignore us if too many of us bug them about it -

The head designer mentioned it in an interview. I believe they were considering it before the first wave released and with how successful it is I'm sure that's still the case. Of course 'evergreen' doesn't actually mean it will last forever but that LEGO plans to continue the line for the foreseeable future and probably won't cancel the theme unless something big changes. Wizarding World sells incredibly well considering how few sets it has compared to other themes like Star Wars, Technic, or City. Unless LEGO makes a large mistake with the line like spreading it too thin I doubt the line will be cancelled. LEGO knows HP sets sell well with no new movie (or even spinoff movie) promoting the brand. At most LEGO will simply drop the "Wizarding World" branding. -

It's probably the one of most likely sets to retire this year, the only ones that will almost certainly be retained are Whomping willow and the 2020 Advent Calendar. After those I would guess these are the next in order of most to least likely to retire, Quiddtch, Hogwarts Express, Carriage, Great Hall, Rise of Voldemort. the August wave is usually a bit more limited plus the Carriage isn't the most popular so it's possible it will go and it's the most likely 2019 set to retire. I wouldn't worry about it though. It probably won't be retired this year and even after it's retired most stores will probably still have leftover sets to sell. -

LEGO leaks is a general LEGO hashtag if not a pretty general hashtag period. Many of us forget as we block accounts but if you visit the tag without anything blocked most of the time 90% of the stuff is just general LEGO, photography, custom minifigures, and collections. 5% is completely unrelated to LEGO and only that last 5% is anything actually leaks or related to leaks. This can change sometimes when there are lots of leaks from different themes (like right now) and when someone is intentionally trolling (how have there been multiple people over the last year who troll a tag for a hobby and think they are doing a great service to the world?)
