Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion
MaxHeadroom replied to Captain Nemo's topic in LEGO Licensed
I'm baffled by this. No Gringotts here means it will be released next year with around $30 of the set taken up by a dragon. If the set is $100 then that leaves us with only $70 for Gringotts itself, so around the size of privet drive which is a bit small for Gringotts. I guess this means we will get another $100+ set next year? Mainly though I just can't stop thinking about scribbulus. What the hell is a scribbulus? Why is a scribbulus? How is a scribbulus? Whatever it is it's not as important as the leaky Cauldron so it must be a really interesting design. I assume it sells parchment and quills? I can't imagine LEGO designers being able to make that as exciting as they could probably make Eyelop's. -

Go back 100-400 pages and you'll be able to find one of the many hundreds of times we discussed this before anything about the DA leaked aside from the price. You might have to go through a few random pages of fake leaks and explaining to people why the DA won't be microscale before you find a shop list but it probably won't take too long. -

Hooray for 500+ pages! personally I really don't think the young Harry hair would work for Ollivander. I would prefer they just keep his current hair and move his sideburns on the faceprint. -

I finished rebuilding the DA set and came here to find the stickers had leaked and I had a lot of reading to do. Now that I'm caught up I have to point out how much I love this leak. Some sticker sheets giving us some insight into a few of the shops included Is a lot more exciting to me than a random minifigure. It is definitely worrying though that Gringotts isn't here. I also would've liked to have the leaky cauldron but I can live without it. Ideally we would get the above ground section of gringotts in this set completing the DA street and we would get the underground section in a set next year. I would also love to at least see the brick section of the the leaky cauldron included. Also despite being a HP fan for a decade and having read all the books and seen the movies I don't remember Scribbulus at all for some reason. I would've preferred Madam Malkins or the Owl emporium. -

I can see why these figures weren't on the bag, they're very boring. James and Lilly are a fun novelty but I doubt most casual HP fans care about them very much. Ginny is a dull inclusion. I think they should've included Ginny in the AT without the new hair and faceprint and instead made Lavendar CMF figure instead. If they really were desperate to make Ginny though they should've given her a pigmy puff instead of a new glass. Fred and George are fine. I doubt anyone wanted them in these costumes though. Ron and Hermionie are figures that exist. I'm less disappointed in them because I had low expectations for them and knew they would be included. I wonder how well this series will sell when compared to the last one. I'm guessing it will sell considerably worse considering the figures are more expensive and less interesting. Plus fewer people will want to feel bags for them. -

My first sets were freeing Dobby and the Burrow in 2010. I then got all of the 2010/11 sets and the DK books. I spent many hours staring at all of those old sets and eventually got the 2001 castle and 2002 Dueling Club. -

Or what if LEGO Diagon Alley is Joe's pick for VP? On the topic of other themes we collect I have a varied collection. Most of what I have is from when I was a kid buying LEGO around 2007-2011. I collected a lot of a few themes like City, HP, Architecture, and Star Wars (I've just finished a five day binge of rebuilding SW sets including a few big ones like 8038 and 7675). I mainly collected a few sets from a lot of random themes though like Spongebob, Indiana Jones, Kingdoms, Atlantis, and various others. Aside from some LEGO movie and Ideas sets I really didn't buy much new LEGO from 2012- to the HP reboot. I did buy a lot of used stuff though, mainly Hobbit and LOTR sets even though I didn't like the hobbit movies that much and have never seen LOTR. I would find them at local garage sales for cheap prices (I only paid $6USD for the hobbit hole set) so I just bought them mainly for parts or to integrate into my Hogwarts Castle displays. Looking at future LEGO sets though I'm definitely curious about what will happen to this forum once the DA and CMF get revealed. Im sure all of us children of nono will disband for the rest of the year. At this rate I'm guessing that won't be for another 100 pages though. -

Well it certainly is an advent calendar. Advent calendars aren't really for me because they don't look very good on display but some of these seem questionable for even the target audience. Present builds once again make up a sizable portion of the calendar and again I wonder who actually wants these? Plus we already had 4 last year and 2 of the new ones are just the old ones in new colors. The trees also seem a bit pointless. We already had very similar trees last year and those actually fit well with the tree in the clock tower set whereas the completely white trees here probably wouldn't fit with any of the 2019 trees. Then we get to the out of scale builds. The triwizard cup seems pointless to me. It's too big to be a substitute for the previous ones for kids who missed out on them and it's not large enough to be much more detailed than the 2019 one (UCS triwizard cup after the UCS Dobby's sock?). The microscale builds are cute but pointless. I do think the carriage and ship could be fun if LEGO used a modified 2x2 tile with studs on the edge instead of the 2x2 jumper plates. This would let minifigures sit on them and essentially make them the Harry Potter version of microfighters. I do really like the other builds though. The music stuff is fun, the sofa is great, and the fireplace is useful. The minifigures are also nice but I think they should've given Hermionie midlegs instead of the 1x2 brick. It would've been a nice alternate version of an existing figure like McGonigal figure last year. Overall though the 2020 HP advent calendar is fine. I'm probably only as critical as I am because the rest of the HP sets are so good. -

We did see a prototype great hall at a toy fair in 2018. A lot of stuff was missing in the final version. -

I'm glad my idea has caught on. A UCS Dobby's sock would be a cherished and valuable addition to any LEGO collection. -

HE would stay because it had a limited release when it first came out (in the US at least) since it was intended as a ToysRUs exclusive which caused the set to be produced in lower quantities. Also the Hogwarts express is an essential build to have on the market while the great hall isn't. We already have various castle sets so we can survive without it on the market for a few years. I do hope the list is fake though and I think it might be considering how many sets are supposedly retiring after basically only 1 set being retired before this. I also can't see them retiring the Knight Bus so soon or really most of the sets from the main 2019 wave. -

I'm shocked to see the Great Hall retiring since it's such a popular flagship set. With the Advent Calendar and the polybag I would guess that we won't see another GH until 2022 at the earliest. I already own the 2018 and 2019 sets but I might try to pick up another copy of one and keep it sealed. Not sure which set to choose though if I'll even be able to afford to do that after I buy the 2020 sets whenever those finally release in the US. -

I don't understand how the minifigure/micro scale debate is still going on. It's as pointless as discussing if Hermionie will be in any of the 2021 sets. -

What's the cheapest way to get the Astronomy Tower in the US? I've tried brickshop but their shipping is nearly half the price of the set. Some people here have gotten theirs without paying much more than the US retail price and I'd like to know how. -

Like I've said before we NEED a UCS Dobby's sock. A brick built Dobby with sock would be better than nothing but I want a larger than life replica of Harry's stinky sock. -

I haven't posted here in awhile so I guess here are my thoughts on the recent news. -Minifigure pack: It's fine I guess. Not really my thing. I'm still trying to collect every minifigure scale set but this is kind of pushing it for me. Especially considering I'll have to order it from LEGO so I'll have to pay full price. -AC: Did we need more Yule Ball side builds and figures? This is even more frustrating because a GP calendar would've been far more interesting and would've expanded our laughably small OOTP collection. Insane to think we have only $50 worth of OOTP sets compared to us now having $230 worth of GOF. I didn't like last year's calendar (it was rushed and it shows) but hopefully this will be better. -Retail exclusive: I'm disappointed we aren't getting anything else from OOTP but I guess this leaves me with more money for other things. TLDR: the real Kingnono was the friends we made along the way. -

I honestly think almost the whole figure is bad. The hair in the set and even the piece used here just does not work very well (though this is an improvement). The dress being unprinted isn't great either and I think the face is pretty off too. If the dress and face were better the hair would be much more forgivable and vice versa. I really think they should've cut out another figure or two and used the budget for Molly. Ideally they would cut the death eaters but that would remove the conflict of the set so that can't happen. I guess Tonks would be the best figure to drop since she isn't essential to the burrow and I don't think people are too attached to that version of her costume (I'm sure we'll get the OOTP one later this year). -

I remember the designer saying the car was included because they assumed the WW would be retired by now. My issue with the set comes from comparing it to the WW. Nothing to do with me already having the car. Remove the cars from both sets and compare the rest of them. You're getting a pretty sizable castle wall and tower plus a relatively large build for the WW. The PD set just doesn't look like as much stuff. The castle and house compare well but it feels like there is about a tree worth of stuff missing. Obviously this comes down to the castle being made up of a lot of large panels which reduces the cost but it still feels like you're getting less. -

1. Astronomy Tower - castle sets are always my favorite so no surprise here 2. FF:UE (terrible name)- as great as a set based off of this could be. Best $30 LEGO HP set. 3.Attack on the Burrow - I don't mind the side being open but I think having the kitchen hanging out of the side will make it look bad. Still very good though. The random fire was completely unnecessary but it's nice that they went above and beyond and included it. I'm really not a fan of all the stickers and all the clear backed stickers. I'm going to have to buy a sticker applying too aren't I? Anyone have any recommendations? 4. ROR- I love the idea of getting some sets like this but I feel like the ROR isn't the most exciting choice for our first interior set because at the end of the day it really does feel like it's just a wall. A very nice walk with a door, a chalkboard, a fireplace and some signs but still a wall. I also wish there were some more studs to place minifigures on. 5. Hedwig- not really my kind of thing but it does look quite nice and seems to be a good value. I didn't plan on getting this but maybe I will if I see it on sale or to get the GWP. 6. Privet Drive - seems a bit overpriced for the stuff included. I'll either get this when it's on a good sale or to get the GWP -

I have kept all of my boxes so far for the rebooted line (I didn't get the Hogwarts castle, DA GWP, or Birckheads though) and still have a few old boxes (2001 Hogwarts Castle, 2010 freeing Dobby and 2011 Hogwarts). It was immensely helpful when I was moving. I was able to just pack all of the sets into their boxes for me to rebuild later. All of the boxes together look surprisingly impressive. My current plan is to keep the boxes on a shelf and not have all of the sets on display. The sets take up a lot less shelf space in their boxes and the smaller sets can be stacked which takes up even less space. -

Not much of a surprise or reveal (did anyone think they would make a DA set without it?) but it's nice to get some confirmation. Now that we have the sets what did "There is more than you think" mean? It was in reference to the official pictures and all we've seen is stuff we've known about. -

Yea I think all of the regulars got distracted yesterday responding to all of the other people who flocked to the forum to discuss the new sets. I think they're all great. Hedwig is better than I expected and I may even buy it if I see it on sale at some point. It's the only set I really don't have a desire to purchase day 1 and could easily wait awhile to get. Might eventually get it to apply for the GWP. Only otter set I have some issues with is Privet Drive. It just seems a bit small for $70. I'm also not a fan of the way the wall hinges into Harry's cupboard. When opened the wall reveals the interior to the exterior and the wall blocks the inside of the cupboard from being viewed from the inside, meaning kids will have to turn the set around to get in there. That's only a minor issue though. I'm also not a huge fan of us getting a third potions classroom but they expected the WW to be retired by now so it's understandable, still doesn't explain the awful random tiny one from the Great Hall though. This might be my favorite year for standard sets so far. We've got all the standard HP sets out of the way that we've seen multiple times over the years and knew we would be getting like like The Great Hall, The Knight Bus, Hagrid's hut, Quidditch, Aragog, and the Hogwarts express so now we can start getting things we've never seen before or have only seen once.
