[Review] 8038 - The Battle of Endor
DutchRebel replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Have been building this fantastic set last two nights. I am really impressed by the design: the bunker is a real old-school type of build (exept the exploding door mechanism), the AT-ST is a nice technical one and at last the Ewok stuff is quite original. Of course the minifigs are just GREAT, the rebel commandos are almost too detailed for putting the backpacks on! This one definately enters my top 3 SW sets. Thanx for the review by the way. DR -
Hey jansued, I love your original way of reviewing the new sets, the Echo base was hilarious, but you made me laugh again with this one! Design and figs of the Pirate tank are great imo. Thanx again, DR

Hey Jan, thanx for driving 100 miles and share your hilarious review with us. Thanx again for all the effort and I had a good laugh!

that was good fun! thanx for the review ISC. My Vader is on his way, unfortunately by 'Deutsche Post', they don't travel by lightspeed so it will take some more days. You made waiting a little less hard with this funny review. DR

I just love this little set! Nice build. Good selection of figs and a lot of exclusive, chrome and printed parts. Excellent review by the way. DutchRebel

The structure and color of the minifigs are definitely different. The darker red of the imperial guard is very obvious and the sand color of Mace and Yoda are also very different from my 'old' lego elements. The plastic is also more transparant and less shiny, especially on the Imperial guard. It's not a big deal to me, beacuse I already had two guards, I bought the set for Leia (ssschwing ;-). But I understand a bit of frustration from my fellow EB members! DutchRebel PS: is Leia exactly the same as the one in Jabba's Sailbarge?? Maybe someone's got both...

Haha, sure thing Future74! Currently I'm working on some custom minifigs. After that project I hope to get started with a modified Republic Gunship. But that won't be finished before the summer. The tennis Spring league is coming and I have a lot of photos that need to be put in a book, as you might have guessed! When I finish something Eurobricks will be the first place to know it! Cheers

Okay guys, sorry you had to wait so long for a reply. I've been travelling for 2 months in South America and suddenly there are a lot of posts in my Plo Koon Starfighter topic.... in December.. 3 months after posting my MOC! First things first: thanx for all your compliments, appreciate it! Snake....SNAKE, you are right, I'll delete 4 engines of the ring, 'cause Plo's JSF indeed has only 2 engines on his. I followed the deeplink to take a look at the Jesus guy's Mocpages copy of mine. The link didn't work, so he probably got banned. (can't believe someone called Jesus steals something ;-) To fallenangel327: sad name by the way.. the 4x1 slopes are painted indeed, at the moment they are for sale on BL though. Thanx again for posting all your nice words regards DR

Thanx for indexing this KimT! You are one fine MOD.

Hi guys, My latest MOC is not the most original one, because LEGO created a nice version last year and the UCS rendition (which I don’t own) was not bad either. I preferred to make a sort of combination of the two with lots of chrome and a cockpit for a minifig, I can also do without the R2-D2 playability issue, as I don’t play with LEGO, I just like them to look good on my shelf! For more pix, check out http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=353055 Hope you like it! Best regards DutchRebel EDIT: Pictures deeplinked

Cool! But I guess Darth Vader won't like that annoying smile on his face....
-
Hey KimT, you are the MOD here, but let me do the replying okay? Because my fellow dutchmen captain green hair was absolutely right, there are a couple of customized parts in this design. The slope on the front is made of two 8x1 pieces without studs, connected together underneath, on top I put a chrome sticker. Did the same thing on the 8x1 pieces on the back of the wing. groeten DR

Fantastic MOC, with the cockpit as the highlight!

Hi Ras, as stated in this topic before: I never make instructions for my MOCs. I think it takes the magic away from building. I love starting up a project after getting reference pix from the movies and the internet, than I just start building and modding it. Sometimes during the built you can come up with improvisations that you didn't think of before. Since I was a kid I loved ''working'' like this. I tkink it's just the kick you get from seeing it get together along the way, if I just made instructions and bought all the needed parts from BL than that kick wouldn't be that big I guess. thanx DR
-
hi pr0visorak, the ring is of Obi's JSF, that's right! I also used a lot of parts from it for the rest of the MOC to answer your second question. Yep, the striping is done with decals. Thanx DR
-
Hi Darth Jokar, I've never considered selling it. I create MOCs for my hobby not to make money out of them and I get much more satisfaction from all your great comments than some dollars. Thanx! Hi snake1992, I never work with instructions on my MOC projects. First I search for reference pix on the internet, or watch parts of the SW movies. Than I just start building and modding it day by day, sometimes during the work I buy some specific parts from Bricklink. I love the proces of seeing the thing come together and making modifications. And of course your comments helped me making it better. So no instructions unfortunately, but you can always try to reproduce it by looking at the pix! good luck DR
-
Good eyes Norrington! When I was getting together my pix for reference I noticed this too. You see him flying this fighter but when the camera shows Plo inside the cockpit it has the grey lines above him (exactly as the eta 2 JSF). What a coincedense that my MOC has the right combination!! DR

Dude or duder, his dudeness, el duderino... I shot a pick of the belly for you, check http://www.brickshelf.com/cgi-bin/gallery.cgi?f=337397 when it's public. DutchRebel

I'll try to make a pic this weekend and will post it in my brickshelf cartoondude. Thanx Thanx pedro, my next project will be modifying the Republic Gunship and after that I would like to build a UCS Tyderium Shuttle, so another JSF will be unlikely. But when I change my mind I'll let you know! Cheers
