Can someone help me understand how those brick sails are connected to the mast?

They simply aren't. Elusys just tried to recreate the look of the fabric sails with bricks; if I remember correctly, he built most of the digital model not from the instructions, but from the set photos. I think you could creatively try to connect them to the mast, but as they are in the render, it won't work. (I'm not even sure whether the parts used as "sails" are even available in these colours.)

Did you have to modify anything to make it work? For example the rooftop on the cabin, do you think it is stable enough?

I made hardly any modifications. I did colour swap some pieces because I was eager to start building, so I will add more dark brown tiles, plants et cetera over the coming days and weeks when my next Bricklink orders arrive.

One thing I did change structurally was the pig's "sand pile" that extends into the bow. Using hinge bricks with jumpers and tiles seemed a bit fragile, so I grabbed some old Hinge Plate 1 x 2 with 2 Fingers (4276), combined it with its counterpart (2452) and enjoyed the small footprint and good stability of this part. (See last picture in my following gallery.)

The rooftop works brilliantly and is stable, thanks to the interlocking tiles - when I poke at the structure, the only thing moving is the Dark Tan wedge plate below from the original set, as it's only loosely attached in the original set. In fact, I like the cabin so much I would like to make another one for the other open deck (maybe adding some walls, similar to your construction that closes off the middle hull). Speaking of which - this is my favourite part of your modification, as it closes off the middle hull which is arguably on the doll house side of things in the original build.

I'm really, really thankful you shared these pictures and I NEED MORE! hahaha If and when (no hurry) you have time, I'd like a couple more angles and close-ups.

    Sure thing, here you go:

In the previous pages I posted some minor modifications to the bay, by either changing the colour of the white parts to reddish-brown, or by adding extra panels to the structures, to give a more planked and run-down look. I finished modifying some of those planked panels I made back in April and then I added other elements to the set, to make it look more complete.

    [...]

I just added most of your modifications to my build and I love them. Kudos to you for constructing them with mostly clips and to existing technic holes, that makes adding them (and removing them for play) a breeze. It's really stable and buildable too, something I'm not used to with most digital designs. :-) Keep up the great work!

Thanks everyone! I can't seem to find the LDD files in that "Modding the Barracuda" thread, at least not on the first few pages. Sorry to be a pain, but can anyone point me closer?

Found it in another thread, sorry: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/173544-the-pirate-bay-is-going-to-be-an-official-lego-set/&do=findComment&comment=3216921

However, the file might be reverse-engineered from the pictures alone, before the instructions were availabl.

In this case, the world might still be waiting for a digital model made from the instructions. If you want to join forces, let me know, I have some time on my hands.

I have this set already but I would like to have just the ship as well. However, the ship alone is not worth the full price of the set since half the bricks are left over. Haven't been able to find a list of parts needed just for the ship. I'm wondering if that would be cheaper than buying a second set.

I bought only the island parts from someone and counted the pieces then - there are 712 pieces. So the 70 dollars LegoDW estimated in his post are pretty accurate. Why not try to sell the island parts? If you add the minifigures as well, you may well get over 70 dollars, and the island parts are ideal to further expand the base.

I will once I figure out the final ship. I have wanted to do a full set of rigging, but I may do it in 2 stages. The file was completed, but I am not sure how to separate out the parts from the original set. If anybody can tell me how to do this I will gladly offer this list.

Rebrickable can do that with a little workaround:

    1. Upload your MOC as a Custom List. Click "Build".

    2. Disable using your own sets in the Build options and use 21322 as an "additional set" to build from (in this case: the only one).

    3. Rebrickable will show all the additional pieces that are not part of the original set. You can download that list to order from Bricklink.

If you want, I can do that bit of Rebrickable magic myself. Just drop me a PM!

That is a pretty good solution. I believe the Silent Mary-sails are too small, but as you say - multiple sails side by side here and there

Don't really want to blow my own horn, but make sure to check out these cloth sails OKBrickworks has produced from my digital drafts. It's Silent Mary-style sails both in the colours and the size of the new BSB!

  8. Finally managed to replace some colours on my bay: yellow is now dark red, the white accents have been replaced with tan, and the figurehead is pearl gold (probably being scrubbed daily by the pirates). Also I added some darker leafs, the torn sails are still my paper prototypes from these cloth ones, and I added a few animals, but that is still work in progress.

I'm working on getting this built in real life, since my last ship is so unreasonably expensive to build in real life it's ridiculous. (Thus this one is better, as it less expensive / parts intensive) I'm gonna need help on the sails, so I'm asking @Alazon, would you mind helping me with these please? They would be in Black Pearl sizes, but in 2010 imperial flagship style colors?

I'd love to! Give me a few days to cook something up!

First of all, thank you for the hard work and bringing this forum back to life. I thoroughly enjoy browsing these threads, and it's fantastic to see that pirate MOCs and discussion is still very much alive even after all the years.

I could offer to comb through the Master Index, trying to locate orphaned PDFs and pictures in a first step, removing links that are no longer working in a second, finally adding content and updating the index in a third step. Provided you find that a good idea.

In my experience, the indices are a great way to fathom the wealth of information collected here for newcomers and for the more experienced members to locate information in the depths of the threads.

  11. Hi there,
being a relatively new member of the forum, having my love for the Pirates Theme rekindled by first the Ideas submission and subsequently by the released set of "Pirates of Barracuda Bay", I've realised that some of the older topics, especially articles from the fantastic Master Index, have lots of broken links or sometimes grown a bit grey in the beard. Resources like "A Guide to the Pirates Minifigures" seem to be broken multiple times, even after having re-uploads a few years ago.

Is anyone willing to form a kind of Housekeeping Crew over here to update some of these links and topics, maybe in the light of a potential influx of new members following the releases of Barracuda Bay and the upcoming Creator ship? I would happily partake.

What do the other members and also the moderators think about that?

    Cheers!

  12. Sorry for being late in the game and bringing this back from Davy Jones' Locker, but I was so captivated by your MOC that I had to rebuild the skull in Stud.io (in light bluish grey). As always with these rebuilds, some aspects might differ from your original and especially the back of the skull has not been cleaned up yet as it's hidden in the mountain in your version. I am seriously considering ordering the parts and combining the skull with my Barracuda Bay set.

Sometimes they will can a project if they feel that it would be to difficult to turn it into a full fledged lego model. They can do that at any stage of the process, even after 10k has been reached.

Sure. In these cases, if I understand correctly, they found out that the creators were LEGO store employees, which is not allowed in the Ideas TOS.

I did very little, TBH this time round, Alazon beat me to it.

I hope I didn't steal your thunder. I was just eager to do my tattered version and had to do the original sails as as precursor. I gathered since I've offered the files open and editable, everyone would be able to join in and modify them in creative ways.
