    Attack of the Kraken

I'm new to the Eurobricks Community so first I wanna say Hello to everybody. My Englisch isn't that good anymore so I hope you'll all understand me. This my first Contest I participate and also my first MOC. The scene is the first Attack of the Kraken in the 2nd movie, as one sailor finds the hat of Jack. He`s still wearing it even if the tentacles caught him. Hope you like it: Attack of the Kraken 2 von hammelgeier auf Flickr Attack of the Kraken 1 von hammelgeier auf Flickr and the back for a better view on the Kraken: Attack of the Kraken 5 von hammelgeier auf Flickr Attack of the Kraken 4 von hammelgeier auf Flickr If I´d win I choose the mill. Hello Beastie

This is one of my favorite entries. Especially the crop through the ship, the water and the Kraken makes is such an excellent MOC. The ship is full of little details that makes it such a lively scene. The hay fork on the wall, the shipload on the floor with all its barrels, boxes and the little pig. Even every brace between the floors has somethin hanign on it: bag, bucket or just the simple but lovely lanterns or the harpoons on the main deck. And just watch the brush in the barrel... With all the minifigures being so bustling I just feel like beeing part of the crew, fearing every moment that a tentacle would catch me. Of course I know its the black pearl, but putting more coloring like brown in the ships hull and floor would look more realistic. Also the ground and planket could have been more irregular by using some tiles to simulate planks. Next one is the Kraken: Showing only a section of the Kraken emphasizes its dimension, also the little section of his body with the inner view into his stomach (the bone made me smile) The same on his mouth. Great technique to make it round and putting all the teeth in it. Not making it flat like in the movies but more like a cylinder emphasizes its harassment. The irregularity of his teeth do so as well. I especially like the tentacles. Putting the disks displaced gives them a realistic touch. I think you got out of bricks for making them taller :) I don´t like the Krakens eye. It looks unnatural and doesn´t fit into the scene. In the movie I think its amber, so tan with a black pupil would be much better. Also integrating it into the corpse would make the Kraken more natural. Same for the stud plate on the front. Further add more splash to the water near the ship and the tentacles. Even though there is a movie scene, where the tentacles come out slowly, it would make it much more lively and dangerous. Putting one tentacle directly next to the ship and letting it slide at a cannon would be a great eye catcher. One main reason beacsue I like it that much is, that you just put several movie scenes in this MOC.: 1. William who gets lifted with the barrels of rum and Elisabeth waiting with her gun for the final shot. You even didnt forget Wills' knife. 2. Jack heading with his rapier into the Krakens mouth. (Putting one foot back and one arm forward would have make it better) and 3. The crew preparing for the fight against the Kraken. My suggested improvements are just "the cherry on the cake" of a great MOC. As an outsider its always easy to make suggestions on improving but these couldn't also be the intention of the builder. The achievment of building such a huge scenery shouldnt get any further suggestions... I hope everybody understands the meaning. I`m just trying to improve my English and reading all those topic on Eurobricks really helps me. But for now its quite difficult to me to translate my german common speech in English words. I´m always looking forward to translation tips.... I wanted to comment some more entries but as I need a couple of hours for just one comment I limited it to my favorite one. yours hammelgeier

    Attack of the Kraken

Of course I had access to my old LEGO collection (quite 20 kg), but as the collection is just 20 years old, there werent many "special" bricks. Above all they were very scratched (for example all the blue ones in my MOC) so I wanted to use new or better ones. As described in the introduction of myself, I live just 10 Minutes from Legoland Germany. So I headed forward to Legoland and got new bricks from the bargain market ("Schnäppchenmarkt"). One bag full of bricks for 14,99 Euros, I could get about 400 to 500 gramm into it. Much better than 9 Euros per 100 gramm in the factory shop.

    Attack of the Kraken

It's really my first MOC ever made. The only models I made up to now were Original Lego models. Perhaps I have a god-given talent or just been lucky on putting the right bricks together on each other. Probably you will find out with my next MOC that's already in planning. I'M addicted to LEGO since starting this MOC. Just have to explain my wife to get time for building

    Greetings from Bavaria

Greetings from Bavaria, my Name is Daniel, I'm 29 years old, marriaged and have a 1-year old daughter. I'm living in a small village in Bavaria, not far away from Legoland Germany ;) So how did it start becoming an AFOL? I found my old LEGO when cleaning the attic and searching for old baby stuff. The day I rediscovered my passion for LEGO was broken. I left everything behind and started to rebuilt the first models even if my wife wasn't very excited about that. Even if I just have 10 Minutes to Legoland Germany, I wasn't there before my daughter was 6 months. Because she was really hooked (and of course me too), we decided to get an annual pass. With quite 30 visits this year, it´s allready paid. And in the lunchhour I often got the chance to look for new offers at the cheap Johnny (is this really the translation for "Schnäppchenmarkt"?) Here I got almost all parts for my first MOC and entry at he Pirates of the Carribean Contest. My favorite themes are anything from the past especially pirates and castle. I planned to built a medieval castle as my first MOC, but when i recognized the PotC contest I couldn't resist to participate and join Eurobricks. I daily visit several LEGO fanpages and flickr to see new MOCS and get ideas. What else to say: Currently there is no more time for another hobby next to lego and my daughter ;) When she´s asleep I sometimes get round to watch fantasy movies such as LotR or "Eastern"-movies. That's all from me. Hope you enjoy my upcoming MOCs. By now my flickr page is quite empty: http://flic.kr/ps/ZnXxC hammelgeier

    Attack of the Kraken

Wow, I didn't expect to win as much praise. Thanks therefore. Also thanks for the good advices: My first LEGO photos and it was already dark. If I would have recognized, that the contest has been extended, I could have taken the photos on daylight. By the way, I first planned to make the Kraken under water, so the head couldn't correctly be seen as in the movie scene. As I besieged our dining room for one week with Lego, I got a little trouble with my wife. Think she wouldn't be happy if I start again this evening to redesign it That was my first intention, but didn't have reverse slopes in black. I'm almost out of bricks. Time to go to Legoland shopping Don't want to destroy my MOC. Or what do you all do with your MOCs? Do you destroy them even if you know what time and work you spent building? Of course you also have to buy new bricks if not using the old ones again. hammelgeier
