Possible MOC of a Cat 639 Scraper Earth mover
Gray Gear replied to Laurie8781's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
When looking for MOCs with instructions you are probably out of luck if a quick google search doesn't bring up anything good -
42128 Single-cabin mobile crane (my first alternate model)
Gray Gear replied to MP LEGO Technic creations's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have never seen a single-cabin mobile crane before! I never thought about it, but it makes so much sense to make it like this! Very cool you made this work so well in LEGO form. -
[CADA] CADA General Discussion Topic
Gray Gear replied to Milan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Has anyone got experience with Cada's micromotor? Do you think two of those would be powerful enough to power a small tracked vehicle? I am having space issues -
Looks awesome! Idk why they are there, like the little clothes for the animals.

Agreed. The 3L camshaft halfbeam is the closest thing TLG has ever made I think. But the overhang will cause problems too- 4620 replies

[MOC] Brian's Toyota Supra (1:12)
Gray Gear replied to ArtemyZotov's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I am not a big fan of the A80, especially the roofless version adding even more weight to an alredy heavy chassis. It is still a very cool car, but not one of my favorites. But I do think you recreated the real car very well. I like the mix of system and Technic, which is something I like to do myself. The car is instantly recognizable and all the important bodylines have been captured. Well done m8! -
[Mindstorms] Need help reparing or replacing MicroScout silicone buttons
Gray Gear replied to ZeldaTheSwordsman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
If someone in Germany would like to take the dead "Mircoscout" off my hands I won't have to Bin it. I don't know what's wrong with it, it looks fine, but I dont really care either -
[Mindstorms] Need help reparing or replacing MicroScout silicone buttons
Gray Gear replied to ZeldaTheSwordsman's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Does this use the same buttons? I got it in a bag of old LEGO and it is dead https://bricksafe.com/files/Gray_Gear/stuff/IMG_20220304_204756.jpg/800x450.jpg If it is what you need I'd give it away, so you'd only have to cover shipping -

@LegoHoops Looks instantly better with the added headlights! I hate how "blind" the LEGO version looks with these empty eye sockets... -
Koenigsegg Regera (Instructions for Manual available on rebrickable)
Gray Gear replied to DugaldIC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
@T Lego I fully agree. Also I would love to have access to the real Car I am building to take pictures. I sometimes find areas which are hard or even impossible to find pictures of on the Internet. Also, making building instructions is not free only because the programms are free. Personally I spent a good chunk of money for a new PC to run those programms reliably and a 32Inch monitor so I can actually see what I am doing. That's money not every MOCer will be able to spend just to make instructions for others. What I would really love to have is one of these massive touch display monitors digital designers or artits use, but I can't afford them as they are cost like 5K. I bet TLG designers have a lot better hardware than the average MOCer.- 144 replies

Koenigsegg Regera (Instructions for Manual available on rebrickable)
Gray Gear replied to DugaldIC's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I used a similar gear arrangement in my Nissan 180SX MOC. I used a 6.5L with stop to make sure the axle cant back out, that solved the problem for me. Flaws in MOCs can and should be openly adressed I think. But I do think different standards have to be used for MOCs and official Sets, because they are built with different standards to begin with. While I do try to make my MOCs as sturdy as possible, not all MOCers do the same. If stuff breakes easily that's normal if it was just intended as a display piece. And "new parts now and then" is quite the understatement. I wonder what kind of LEGO Supercar you would compare this MOC to. "built from standard parts"? All of the 1:8 Supercars introduced new and gamechanging bricks.- 144 replies

Very nice! Seems to be running very smooth with little friction, the low idle speed is really impressive. -
set 8002 "Destroyer Droid" reconstruction
Gray Gear replied to astyanax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Finished mine about 2am today. Its not pretty, but that's not the problem. The droid lacks the power to raise the rear leg under its own steam. The rear leg does get triggered fine, but once it touches the ground that's it. I tried to add more rubber bands, but it didn't help, Maybe my rubber bands are too weak. So much is supposed to be moved with the rubber bands on the rear leg, the usage of a powerful shock absorber would be much better imo. But as @astyanax already said it is not an easy swap. I built this to learn how this bot works, and i understand it now. But it is an unreliable mechanism, so I don't feel like modding the set would bear much better fruit -

Gray Gear replied to astyanax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I started building this too earlier today. Idk how it will go, I dont have the 22L ziplines sadly, and my version will be mostly black. But my goal is to learn how the droid works, so i dont care about looks. -
set 8002 "Destroyer Droid" reconstruction
Gray Gear replied to astyanax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
After looking more closely at how the "real" Droideka is shaped and especially how it rolls up i realized how inaccurate this Set is. Especially the rear leg is off, folding completely in the wrong direction, backwards instead of forwards... But this was probably done because it makes it much easier for the droid to stand up. -

Gray Gear replied to astyanax's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have thought about building this Droid with new bricks myself. It just seems like such a cool, fascinating build. But my dislike of rubber bands has kept me from doing so until now... It probably would have been better to use a shock absorber for the rear Leg instead, but idk how hard it would be swap one in as a MOD... -
RC object 279 + autoloader + autocannon
Gray Gear replied to Aerolight's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I was unable to find any information on the 130mm main Gun on the Obj. 279 being fed by an autoloader. Can you help me out there? I was under the impression the Obj 279 project was cancelled a few years before the sowjet medium Tanks (T64 and newer?) were fitted with an autoloader like this. The only mention of an autoloader I could locate was linked to war thunder... -
7+R+N gearbox with 3D printed parts
Gray Gear replied to allanp's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Exactly, bringing a one- off to mass production is not easy, but if you look at Effermanns parts for example I doubt it would be that difficult, seing as small scale production is already happening. My point was, developing new bricks isn't hard to a point where competitor brands to TLG can't do it, even private enthusiasts can do it. They just don't want to make any new moulds as that's where the real money is spent. And for the Control+ failings there is just no excuse, which you noted as well I see -

R&D is expensive, yes. But on the other hand, some enthusiasts can develop new Bricks, programm better control apps and other things, without the massive resources of a Big company... -

42143 - Ferrari Daytona SP3
Gray Gear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I feel the same. Putting this in the set to underline it as a premium product would be something I'd understand. And for 400 bones it is something I'd expect as a customer. But if they wanted to do a limited edition they should have done 5000 limited sets that come with a different colorsceme and the book inside the box. That way it would at least be something special. The book alone for 80 bucks just feels cheap to me. -

Gray Gear replied to Ngoc Nguyen's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Arn't those even more desirable than the 5K numbered ones then because they are more rare then? Does TLG forbid reviewers to sell their samples after the review? (Why the hell anyone would waste 80 bucks for this is a mystery to me btw. But I guess the collector with too much disposable income will pay any ammount for anything. Its "Limited Edition" after all )
