    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

Yeah, and we didn’t hear about Cedric being in the Clocktower set until much later last year. The sets shown behind the curtain at toy fair are still in development and subject to change, and from what I’ve heard the minifigures are represented by stand ins - hence the confusion among leakers on whether Privet Drive comes with Ron and Dobby or Fred and George. It’s just an educated guess that Ginny will show up in the AT, but it seems pretty obvious to me based off the other characters - Lavender and Slughorn means the set is HBP based, and Draco’s presence indicates the Room of Hidden Things, which is both an important part of the movie and a place where a major scene between Ginny and Harry occurs. There’s simply no good reason the AT shouldn’t have Ginny in it.

I think it’s unlikely we’ll see the Burrow this year simply because it needs a large set, and I suspect the August sets will be a large OotP set and a small HBP set to offset the large HBP and small OotP sets in the June/July wave. As far as Weasleys go, there are rumors the twins are going to be in the Privet Drive set, and I can’t remember if Ginny was on the reported list for the Astronomy Tower but I’m certain she’ll show up there. That just leaves Molly, Arthur, Bill and Percy (and technically Charlie) the first three of which will almost certainly make it into DH sets. But when it comes to Order members and Death Eaters we can only cross our fingers and hope for the August sets. I’m personally holding on to the fact that Lego has been pretty good about giving us fan favorites that were passed over in the 2001-11 run of the theme (Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw representation, Cedric, Fleur, etc.) and Kingsley and Tonks are an obvious extension of that trend.

Yeah, it’s really fun to see some of the more obscure details immortalized into Lego, like the alternate versions of the Mirror of Erised or the Mermaid stained glass from the Prefects’ Bathroom. Which makes me think - could we see the birdcage and songbirds from the HBP movie in the Astronomy Tower set? The nesting circular cages would be hard to pull off at minifigure scale but it seems like exactly the sort of little detail that Lego has been trying to put into this theme’s sets.

Yeah, with so many fan depictions of what centaurs could look like it will be interesting to see if Lego can do the concept justice. I’m also looking forward to getting Hermione’s otter patronus. The only thing I’m really disappointed about from what we currently know of this year’s sets is the distinct lack of Order members, which is why I’m really hoping that the bigger August set is a OotP set that includes Tonks and Kingsley.

Can you please just... recognize that many of the people who express similar sentiments to you do so just to cover up their racism, accept that that fact makes people uncomfortable with how vehement you’re being about it, and drop the subject so we can go back to discussing Lego?

The entire reason I brought up the fact that the race discussion was making me uncomfortable was because I didn’t think it had any place here.

No offense, but would you please stop complaining about how they’ve cast black actresses to play Hermione. JKR has supported the decision - stating that she never specified Hermione’s race in the books, the movies have already played fast and loose with some of the character appearances from the books, and ultimately the play and movies are different cannons that aren’t obliged to conform to each other’s visual appearances. With so many other things to dislike about the production, the fact that you’re so hung up on it is coming off as uncomfortably racist.

I wholeheartedly agree on Cursed Child. The script is cringeworthy and I couldn’t read past the scene where the Trolley Lady turns into a liquid metal terminator, but when I actually got a chance to see it on stage I found it easy to ignore the ridiculousness of the plot and get swept up in the spectacle of it all. The costume designs would be fun to see in minifigure form but the play just doesn’t have the reach to be as recognized as the movies. Plus the whole question of licensing. In contrast, FB has plenty of characters that are universally recognized, including several that tie into the original Harry Potter story. Plus, there’s a specific movie release that they want to tie the CMF to.

Actually if you look at Newts hair from the movies the tan Soldier 76 hairpiece used for the Green Brick Suit Guy is a better fit then the spiky Sleepyhead hair being used for Newt now. Newt’s hair is messy, but it’s a little longer and wavier with his bangs brushed to the right.

I’m equally excited at the prospect of more FB sets. I realize that the 2018 sets weren’t quite as popular as their Harry Potter counterparts, but they were still some very well designed sets and gave us an amazing amount of new creature parts and recolors. I think the strategy they used in 2018 of one bigger set from the previous movie and one small set from a trailer scene of the upcoming release served them well - letting them hype the franchise and its new installment without sacrificing the screen accuracy that’s been defining the Wizarding World theme this time around. Hopefully that means next year we’ll see a bigger CoG set - perhaps with a brick built Zouwu and maybe some Matagots? More creatures are always appreciated. And something mentioned over on the CMF series 20 thread is that the Green Brick Suit Guy’s hairpiece (a recolor of a fairly rare part) would be a perfect fit for Newt. I wonder if Lego is planning to switch to using it for him in the next FB wave.

So, two good things about the CMF getting pushed back: A) it might still have 22 characters since the lower 16 number was for this fall’s series, which we now know isn’t Wizarding World B) it’s making me take those rumors of a $100 set in August more seriously. If Lego wanted to release certain characters (i.e. Order of the Phoenix members) this year and were planning on some of them coming in the CMF to compliment a set, then maybe when the CMF got pushed back they decided to beef up the set so they could include those characters originally meant for the CMF in it. My money’s on it being Grimmauld Place or the MoM.

Even if we don’t get a CMF this year there’s still an exclusive minifigure coming with a book this summer. Lockhart is one of the possibilities being tossed around for that, since he’s got plenty of different outfits to choose from.
  13. A new close up shot of the Viking has shown up and the helmet and beard are definitely separate pieces.

Latest news about Lego animal moulds

Now that you mention it the mold itself isn’t to far off the more rounded standards of modern minifigure animals. The only reason I wouldn’t use one of them in a minifigure display now is because of the colors and the goofy eyes, and it’s easy enough to print different eyes on there. For that matter, I thought the mold was way to small to be in scale for a minidoll, but for a minifigure - well, it’s still too small to be a llama, but it’s about the right size for an alpaca (which the curly coat is more accurate to anyway).
  15. That’s what I was thinking! Definitely looks like the NASA ‘meatball’ logo to me, even without seeing it in focus yet. I’ll definitely have to grab her.
