Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
alvinofdiaspar replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
Nice, I guess that would be a good fit with Parisian Restaurant then. -
None where I am - in any case I am not really in the market to collect all the minifigs - I already got 2x of what I really wanted from the 6 that I ordered (Ice Cream Saxophonist). Anyways, I think what Vidiyo would have benefitted from is using the smartphone display as a stage background for actual minifigs - instead of AR, but it would be difficult to do given the wide diversity of phones out there in differing sizes, etc. I can't help but see the potential of having a custom LCD display for a stage though.

Latest news about Lego animal moulds
alvinofdiaspar replied to Roebuck's topic in Special LEGO Themes
My guess (and this is just a guess) is that the scalpers bought the bodies disproportionately - it meant that whoever wanted to build an elephant through BaP will have to go third party to source the bodies (instant market!) - and buying the bodies alone minimizes the amount of cash one have to spend on inventory.- 3878 replies

I think all the bodies got snapped up by "scalpers". I bought a set of two for the rest of the pieces and sourced the body from someone on BL (with a really large inventory of bodies) at a fairly reasonable price.- 3878 replies

Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

Can confirm this is correct - the food are all printed tiles, but the decoration are stickers. I can't see City ever moving to all printed given the price-point/target audience. -

I don't think we will get it this year, but given the importance of the Asia/Pacific market to Lego, I think it's only a matter of time.- 3878 replies

They're out of stock - at $3.48, and no free shipping. I am only picking up 6 and I have Prime, so it's even. I spent yesterday tracking down all the Beatbits and Bricklinking them

Just scored a whole bunch of Series 1 bandmates for $3.99 Cdn ($4.99 MRSP) at Amazon. No Series 2 ones to be found...but picked up a Carnaval Dancer minifig on BL at an elevated, but still acceptable price.

It looks pretty good - maybe I can pick it up on BL since Lego doesn't have I wanted in stock right now. -

Thanks @LCP - super excited about farm and grocery market sets! The design might not be too exciting on their own (hope I am wrong) - but the parts will offer so much possibilities. Moar animals! This is shaping up to be a very rough year for the wallet if TLG keep on doing what it is doing. -
REVIEW: 80109 Lunar New Year Ice Festival
alvinofdiaspar replied to Pchan1983's topic in Special LEGO Themes
I would love to see them tackle some CNY botanicals - like Enkianthus quinqueflorus Lour. (colloquially known as "hanging chimes flower"). I have the 80101 CNY Eve Dinner - it's a very fun set with some unique food tiles (it was a pain to import to Canada since it was originally Asia-Pacific only) - I definitely wouldn't mind a redo! -

I can't wait to get my hands onto those (opalescent?) panels for the lake. Not having stickers is one of the reasons why I chose to go with this set instead of the diorama this year. As to the vibe - it's probably distantly related to the Harbin Ice Festival, which isn't really a CNY thing per se. -

Actually a CNY candy tray (with Lego candies) would be perfect as an "adult" Lego product. -

Thanks for the review! Love the the kumquat tree and will definitely look up the instructions for that. The pearl gold hotdog buns subbing as gold bullions is great too. Are the coins printed? The carousel diorama also reminds me of the CNY candy tray with multiple compartments I typically only pick up only one of the CNY sets and this one is cute - but I have already decided on 80109. Looking forward to your review of that set! -
Winter Village Sets - Rumours and Discussion
alvinofdiaspar replied to Gearslover01's topic in LEGO Town
Honestly TLG should just release it as a paid set - I am sure AFOLs would just snap it up anyways (I know I would), and it eliminates the problem of wastage (assuming the sets are already made anyways). They can release a corrected version next year or skip it entirely. -

Brick Fanatics has an new article with additional shots of the GWP: https://www.brickfanatics.com/cancelled-lego-xmas-set-problematic-print/ The theory that it is canned because the names on the naughty list are visible - and can upset kids with the same names - makes more sense than canning it simply because there is a naughty list. -
Lego City 2022 Rumours, Leaks, Information And Discussion

I understand this is a 4+ set, but the design is so dumbed-down (okay, "simplified") that it has more in common with Duplo than Lego City - the one piece chassis of the cement mixer made it an immediate "no-go" to me. 60018 (Age 5-12) is still the gold standard in my books - this looks downright ugly and unrealistic; awful mix of colour, poor to non-existent detailing, the rectilinear front profile is downright gross and those control tiles for accent are laughably bad where they're at. Yuck. Get the 4 year olds to play Duplo and stop turning Lego City into that line. 60018 Duplo -

Thanks for posting this! I would definitely like having a 4th floor. It's pretty evident from the prototypes that having a taller 2nd wedge building makes it feel really cramped - a 32x32 baseplate isn't large enough. -

We only have 3 (4 if you include a Lego Discovery Centre) in the Toronto region - and none downtown (where I work, before WFH), which is annoying. I am half an hour (on a good day, which by Toronto standards is never) away from the closest one. -

Being in the largest city in Canada, this sort of mish-mash is perfectly natural - in fact given our cycles of (re)development, it's common to see historic stone and brick facades grafted onto glass office and residential towers 50, 60 stories high. Lego adapting a mix of architectural styles frankly add "freshness" and visual interest to the line - and if anyone want a consistent style, they are frankly better off creating their own MOC build because TLG really can't be all things to all people. -

My guess they will get around to doing one eventually, since we already have the fire and police station (nevermind dental office and vet). I tried to conceptualize what a city-scaled modular hospital build would be like - it'd be huge. -
Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion
alvinofdiaspar replied to The Jersey Brick Guy's topic in LEGO Town
I am curious about them (and will buy) as they come along - but I think there are certain types of buildings that TLG just wouldn't be able to do very well given the restrictions of the line. No skyscrapers (minifig scaled buildings above 3-4 stories) for one; and any civic building that comes along will be town, not city-scaled. -

I hope so! That's like 5 years from now though - we have 4 more sets to get through first. -

I am thinking: Hospital University Courthouse Library Museum Concert Hall Though I think being restricted to a 32x32 (or even 32x32 + 16x32) would be kind of limiting for some of these. I am contemplating a MOC Museum right now and I am foreseeing a footprint of 3 32x32 (if not bigger - hard to include natural history with regular history). This was the inspiration: A record store (rather quaint idea, I know) would be kind of neat - a great way to use up all those VIDIYO tiles though! -
