ISD Aggressor with Top Hull Mod

Thanks! The new UCS is 13cm longer but a LOT less detailed and far more retro looking to my eyes. I like tiles. :] Hmm, think those have been around for a while now. I don’t think they are the tiles Raskolnikov was talking about? I couldn’t have used them in my mods to this build unfortunately.

    [MOC/INSTRUCTION] ISD Monarch

Exactly what I thought! In fact I'm surprised at how low effort it looks as a design. I can imagine it having some serious nose droop problems in years to come as well. Unless its internal structure is made with titanium technic bricks or something! I knew I'd be downvoted to hell for saying this on reddit though.

Thanks for this. :) All really useful to know! I'm about to build Onecases Midi scale SD (Nemesis) So the next time I get round to making a big ISD it will likely be the Monarch and I'll use tips like these as part of my tactics to keep the cost down! Nice one!

    [MOC/INSTRUCTION] ISD Monarch

Dude! that is awesome! I just ran the Monarch half through Bricklink. Mine came up as £562.. which is ok.... but... from 72 different sellers!!!!!! Which makes me do an unhappy face. 72 lots of postage charges is probably going to come out to as much as, if not more than the price of all those pieces. No Monarch for me :(

Not as much as you think. When I tried it recently I was still left with needing to buy almost a grands worth of pieces. It seems they both use different sizes of technic bars for a large percentage of the build so most of the ones in the Aggressor become redundant. The Aggressor is famous for using a lot of very common and easily obtained parts whilst the Monarch is less so.

    [MOC] BTL-S3-ish Y-Wing x 2

Beautiful build Jerac. Love it! The UCS Y wing is my favourite of all the UCS models released by Lego. When I get over my star destroyer obsession this is definitely my next build. Fantastic work!

Soon as I finish the Aggressor, you'll be hearing from me. I just can't get enough of Star Destroyers. Been wanting to build your midi version for ages!

    MOC First Order Assault Walker

It’s nice, but the legs look quite spindly and thin. Particularly the back ones, and the 2 rear feet look extremely small to the scale of this build. The body is good though. Have you seen Edge of Bricks AT-M6 on rebrickable? That one is a good indication of appropriate scaling, despite using Raskolnikovs plus size at ats (also undersized) foot build.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

Then you know what to do, make another one! With cheap parts that you can turn into instructions. ;) Otherwise you know full well you’re going to spend the next 3 years answering the question: ‘do you plan on releasing instructions for your big Mon Cal?’ Actually you’re probably going to spend the next 3 years answering that question anyway. You’re damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

As first world problems go, this is about as bad as it gets but I really just can’t decide and thought out of interest I’d throw it out to the community here. If you could afford to build (and had room to display) Raskolnikovs Aggressor or Onecase’s Monarch (but not both), which would you choose? I’m aware of the differences between them, interior in the Aggressor etc, and this isnt a deciding factor for me as I adore the look of both, and they both come out at almost the same cost on BrickLink.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

I found this too. I priced up both, I already had 1,100 pieces I could use in both, yet the Monarch still came out as £400 more expensive (I originally thought they were the same cost but Id done something wrong the first time I priced them up). This partly had to do with the fact that I was able to get what I needed for the Aggressor from 6 sellers, whilst the Monarchs rare and slightly more unusual parts are such that it needed 21 sellers to get to 100%. The postage fees alone would be crazy! And here is 15,314 pieces (actually, a few more than that as I’m going to try to mod it a bit):

    [MOC/INSTRUCTION] ISD Monarch

I was hoping someone would post some pictures of this one out in the wild. You've done exactly what i would do (use LBG tiles for the whole exterior). In fact it looks like you've really gone all in and even painted the turrets? How stable over time do you think the tip of the nose is going to be?. It already looks like the bottom panels are drooping a bit there. I noticed this on Onecases original pictures as well. It looks like there isn't much in the way of connection points at the very front tip of the ship. Having nitpicked that, I've said it before and I'll say it again: this is an absolutely gorgeous model. Great to see it here in natural light. I'm about to build the Aggressor but can definitely see myself building this in a year or so.

The saddest part about revenge of the sith (IMO)

Except of course, it was posted in the Lego Star Wars section and then moved here by a moderator (along with my reply). Sorry to burst your smug bubble.

Guess you didn't catch the word 'LEGO' before the words Star Wars when looking up this forum eh? You might find this to be a more suitable outlet: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/ Given that this forum is .. you know... about Lego.... and your post isn't.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

Thanks! Bit late on the buying bit though, that part is done (6 BrickLink orders and stupid money later) but that will come in very handy as I wanted to sort book by book so I’ll grab that file from the Rebrickable comments page where he posted it. It had totally slipped my mind. :)

    Aggressor or Monarch?

Yeah. I’ve done my research on this thing and seen many pictures of what 15,314 Lego pieces on the floor looks like. I’m fully expecting there to be some serious sorting going on beforehand. Probably several days of it. Luckily, I’m quite adept at sorting by now. Still, I know 15,000 pieces is next level shit! Kind of looking forward to the challenge actually.

Got a feeling my wife will once she sees 15,000 pieces of Lego lying around the place. And starts stepping on it.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

UPDATE ...not that anyone is remotely interested in the decisions of a stranger on the internet but its my thread so.. meh: Decided to build the Aggressor. There's just something about the chunkiness and robust build on it that I love the look of. Plus its stood the test of time so far and has had most of its build problems ironed out by now. Next year.. The Monarch.... the year after... The Intimidator. The year after that.. divorce, bankruptcy and homelessness!

Thanks for the info. I'll bear that last line in mind should I ever move house... ;)

    Aggressor or Monarch?

That's a good point, one I imagine only time will tell as we don't know what sort of stress weight the super structure on the Monarch will put on the frame Onecase designed. Maybe he'll read this and reply to give us some insight. Probably not, but you never know.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

Very interesting. Thanks, it certainly does and confirms a few things I thought were the case re: the Aggressor. I haven’t built the Lego ucs SD (I think it’s an ugly s.o.b to be honest) so it would all be new to me. I know Rasko does amazing builds though, I’ve built his at at and it was really good fun. I’m wondering if there’s a way to cross ref wanted lists on BrickLink, say, I bought parts for one of em now, then later wanted to build the other using those parts. I could see how many parts were outstanding and just buy the remainder. I wonder if there is much of a crossover.

    Aggressor or Monarch?

Dude, if I had 60 darn inches of storage space in my humble Lego man cave and about 2 grand to spare, so would I! Your bold ambition to make the biggest bastard out there (bar the Chimeara) has unfortunately priced (and sized) me out of your market. Don’t ever take those instructions down though, cause one day.... Does the Aggressor do tiles over wedges? I thought it only tiles over straight plates. It looks to me more like Rasko uses the wedges on the inside of the hull panels approach (which you can see with exposed studs all along the middle seams) rather than Onecases use of them along the outline of the whole ship, which is also what I did with my midi scale ISD moc, but I kind of like Rasko’s approach. Having said all that, the Monarch is indeed more bang for your buck if interiors aren’t your bag, I’m not bothered about them, but having the Aggressor interior does also mean more lovely build time! Like I said, major first world problem this. Yeah.. but it’s not. The interior, whilst I’ll never actually play with it, does mean more fun build time, which is just as important as display time, more so, some might say. And the Aggressor really looks badass from the outside. I mean, realistically, who is actually going to ‘play’ with the Aggressor? If you can afford to build it you’re probably of an age where you don’t sit there once your model is built going ‘neowwww, pew pew pew, die puny rebels!’ whilst ejecting probe droids onto the floor. Really the benefit, as I see it, is in the quirky fun of building a canteen on a star destroyer, and then maybe taking a photo of Darth Vader buying a bagel. I dunno, maybe that’s just me. But then the Monarch is so. Damn. Beautiful.

[MOC] Star Wars: The X-Wing Story

Hmmm... wonder if I can convince Raskolnikov to do this and send me a bag of 15,000 parts to build the Aggressor...... ;0
