    Harry Potter 2020 - Rumors & Discussion

The reveal/leak is finally upon us! This truly is the end of an era. The minifigures are rather lackluster as many have said, for a set in this theme and of this scale, one would expect a larger quantity/quality of minifigures. Interesting that the leaked Harry w floo power minifg is not in this set. Perhaps an add on Knockturn Alley set? That would be interesting. Was also hoping to see Rita here, but alas she (and Lockheart) would be better suited to be in CMF S3 (in the optimistic scenario where HP is popular enough for Lego to do 3 series :P) The set, as expected, is magnificent. We are essentially getting 5 modulars in a licensed theme! What a time to be a HP lego fan! Loved how the facades of each building varies in style and colour, as well as the fact that each building actually has a decent interior. The entrance to Knockturn Alley is ingenious, and looks organically integrated. WWW is a sight to behold in all its glory, can't wait to see it in more detail. We are finally getting a minifig scaled WWW! The modular system also strongly implies one (if not more) followup sets within this system. Gringotts is a no-brainer, and the Knockturn Alley shop from CoS would be another strong contender. Looking forward! (that Gringotts better be worth the wait :P) However, I'm also not as excited as I thought I would be. Perhaps it was the anticipation, or the potential, of a DA set (*cough Gringotts cough*), but I was expecting a "wow" factor that would elevate it beyond a line of licensed modulars, although it does look excellent currently. Also this should finally shut down any microscale thoughts

Wow that was a lot of new pages! Incredibly hyped for DA, can't wait! In my opinion, Gringotts has to be included, from a marketing/business perspective. Personally I'm going with the printed sign theory :P Expecting tons of minifigs (yay!), at least we are finally getting Rita, Lucius and Lockheart. Personally I'm more curious about the layout of the set. As someone mentioned previously, the street pavement is an essential part of DA, and I'm curious to see how the designers incorporate it into the set. Currently I'm envisioning 2 rows of buildings leading to Gringotts, with each side hinged at Gringotts so that they could be "opened" up for display with all the shops in a row, with Gringotts in the middle.

I hope that baby Harry does have the scar, even though it comes with Lily. The shot of baby Harry with his scar is one of the most iconic shots in the entire HP franchise.

This series looks good! Totally did not expect to see James and Lily, although the CMF series is indeed the perfect platform for them to make their (physical :P) Lego debut! Loved how they are instantly recognisable despite not being onscreen a lot and not having any new moulded parts. Baby harry and the picture of James and Lily is such a nice touch too. The Weasley twins looks good, would like to see the Map in more detail, as well as the box. Ron and Hermione on the other hand looks underwhelming, not particularly recognisable (although their outfits seem accurate to the pictures posted earlier in this thread). Would have liked to see other characters such as Rita Skeeter given the CMF treatment hahaa. The other figures (that have already been leaked previously) look great though, love that Dumbledore.

    LEGO Ideas Discussion

Its BEAUTIFUL! I dont usually post or comment much, but when it comes to this, I simply have to. As a pianist, this is the perfect combination of two of my passions, and its surreal that TLG actually released a sizeable grand piano. To me, its more than a model, or a playset, or an overpriced smartphone stand haha. Its a physical manifestation of my passion for the piano and its music (other than the actual piano of course :P), and it is a way to explore and experience my passion in a different way. Of course, it being a 3.6k+ piece set also guarantees some form of accuracy and functionality. Love the little details, from the "brand" of the piano printed as Lego, to the "lock" at the front of the piano represented by the gold(?) ignot piece. The other functions (semi-functional hammers, adjustable seat, the opening top lid) are expected of a set this large (and expensive). Also, absolutely loved the reveal video to the tune of Moonlight. I got chills by watching it, as the music builds and the camera pans out, its beautiful. Its obvious that the people behind this video understands and appreciates music deeply, and its an amazing experience seeing it come to life. The team behind that video deserves a raise Is it worth its price tag though? As many have pointed out (and rightfully so), one could buy an electronic keyboard for the price of this set. Personally, it is out of my budget currently (got to start saving more!) but if I had enough disposable income, I would grab it in a heartbeat. I would actually prefer TLG forgoing the powered-up functionality (like they did with the Crocodile Locomotive just a while back), and just giving us a potentially motorise-able grand piano at lower cost. That being said, absolutely LOVE this set in all its glory

    [MOC] Castle Gate Set

Hi All! Here is my MOC of a Castle Gate set. The intention (which was hopefully achieved ) is to make it as realistic as an official Castle set as possible. With the last official Castle theme a while back, before Nexo Knights introduced a bunch of very useful parts, I was inspired to create some castle themed MOCs to explore how a Castle theme would look like if released today. As this is my first post in this forum, as well as my first Castle MOC, so please do advice if this MOC and/or post needs finetuning. Castle Gate MOC The gate itself is relatively simple, with 2 posts on either side, and a gate in the middle. It was essential that the gate itself be ornate and functional, as a result many click hinges and layered plates were used to add stability, topped off with plates. The main aesthetic of the surrounding structure was designed to have blue pillars and gold highlights (Bluerender unfortunately struggles with rendering that colour ), which will be recurring throughout this theme. In this "theme", the heroes of the kingdom would have more angular designs with sharp corners and shapes, whereas the villains led by a necromancer would be more "smooth" and organic. Another consideration was for the final structure to be able to connect with new structures released in the theme. If TLG were to release a Castle theme today, I would expect modular sections of a larger castle structure, with gates, towers, dungeons etc to be all sold separately but modular in nature. Something like HP's Hogwarts, perhaps. Shield tiles from Nexo Knights were used to decorate the facade. In an actual set they might be printed/stickers even. And of course, the 1X1 pyramid pieces were used extensively to add detail. As a gate, naturally it should, and does, open and close on the click hinges. As a rather simple locking feature, a 2x2 tile jumper is included with a key to secure the gate. On one side of the gate, a small ladder can be used to access the top. Some greenery and foliage were added to ground the model and add some visual flair. Green patches are present in front of the 2 posts, as well as in the corner of the right post. Starting on the left tower, there is an obligatory catapult to fend off potential intruders. I tried to add more to the catapult, creating custom missiles to be thrown or by adding to the structure itself, but it ended up being unnecessarily bulky and distracting, so as a result I just tiled the end of it, placed it on a turntable, with regular 1x1 round bricks as ammo. I did try to add more flair into the structure itself, and one would be able to catch a glimpse of an offset-ted pillar behind the main gate. It added more depth and complexity to the final product. Underneath the catapult is an armoury of sorts, with several shields arranged in a rotating rack, and up against the wall (which is not pictured here), are some axes too. The slope piece in the interior actually started out as a small armoury rack, but was discarded as it couldn't be integrated well into that space. The technic pin holes seen here would facilitate the connecting of the different modules. Underneath the other post is a cozy fireplace bar for the soldiers to rest and relax. Cups, goblets and barrels can be seen. However, this post also has an action feature... Surprise! The entire front wall can be detached with ease as the necromancer's army attacks. And that's it! This is my first Castle MOC, but I've always been inspired by Castle sets. From the 2008 Castle, to Kingdoms, to Nexo Knights (although thats more adventure than castle haha), Castle has been one of my favourite themes. Glad to be in this community to share my love for the theme, and I'm currently working on another MOC which can be connected to this "set", can't wait to share it! C&Cs are very much appreciated, thank you!

  9. Looks good @Ransom Fern! It's interesting how parts from 2 distinctly different vehicles (as designed) could fit as coherently into a build as this mech. The usage of the "track" pieces for the various purposes such as shoulder pauldrons is really good, and adds a lot to the model. It's face is also quite remarkable, being consisted of so little pieces. A side note though, you might want to include a picture of 71699, to help others to understand the set this was constructed from.

Great MOC @Hersbrucker! Really like the lighting effects and the sci-fi/TRON influences in it, and the current wave of sets do fit extremely well with this aesthetic!

    Hello All!

Hi leafan and @marvelBoy123! @leafan currently I make Winter Village themed models every winter (as a way to keep myself current in MOCing as I dont interact with physical bricks that much), but Ive been dabbling in Brickheadz and action themes like Ninjago and MF (when the latter was at its prime). Currently working on my first Castle moc too!

    Hello All!

Hello All! I'm Omega from Singapore, a recently turned AFOL as I'm 21 this year. Currently still in my Dark Ages, with Lego purchases kept to a minimum (until, like many other AFOLs, when I manage to earn a steady income). However, I've been keeping myself abreast of Lego related news and reviews which are primarily from Brickset and Jangbricks respectively. I'm still intensely passionate about Lego, and the K/TFOL me was very involved in making MOCs and Reviews, on sites such as Brickipedia. Over the years, I've grown as a builder, discovering new techniques as new parts are produced, and also discovered Bluerender for my MOCs, which really elevated the final MOC product. Really excited and looking forward to being part of this vibrant and very prolific community of AFOLs, here at Eurobricks! Omega

    Hidden Side VS Monster Fighters

Personally, I would have to go with MF over HS. With HS there is almost a sense that the sets are using the app to add depth that may be lacking in the physical sets. With HS most of the emphasis is placed on the integration with the app, and any further gameplay that the app may provide, and thus did not provide as much playability (physically) with the sets themselves. Also I'm very nostalgic about MF, which clouds judgement :P However, I can see the appeal of HS sets. The (arguably bold) choice to integrate a mobile app so deeply into a theme's gameplay is exciting and would certainly appeal to the KFOLs and TFOLs today, and the lore/premise is interesting too
