    HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

For the first wave I think it's OK to have Jack and Parker in almost every set--I'm not happy about it, but I understand that for the story and the app to function you would presumably need both in each set. Jack/Parker are supposed to send an alert when ghosts might be around (like during events, such as Halloween), so you would most likely need both in each set because of this. Still in comparison it's also a bit strange this this team is only two people in total. Ninjago's team is way too big, but at least its size allows the sets to focus on specific members at a time. That said, if we get a second wave or more, they're really going to have to add some actual variety to Jack and Parker--adding or removing a jacket is going to get real old real fast too. Speaking of characters though, while a bit premature, I seriously hope that Lego goes all out with the periphery characters' lore, i.e. I want actual names for all of them. The dog's name is apparently Spencer and we know the science teacher's name is JB, but the (admittedly unfinished) box art also names every other character as basically just "Captain", "Waitress", "Conductor", etc. which is hopefully not final. Just randomly complaining over here , but I really hope we get some lore for this town and the people in it, and that starts with every character being a named person.

@Holodoc - Does this look like an issue with LDD itself? I'm wondering if you cannot download the file because LDD only runs offline now? I think...

    HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

The train should transform into a ghost version I would think. Its not particularly interesting to me otherwise--but that's like the opposite problem for the folks over in the train forum. That one picture of the Diner is just not doing it for me. Again the angle of the photo is terrible, but it seems like its just largely stacked plates with a box on top. I was admittedly envisioning a more brightly colored rounded 50's style Diner (kinda like the one from Riverdale, the show which I totally don't watch...) And this one seems a bit more run down, the color of the building is the same as the dirt upon which is poorly stands. And I don't like the big shrimp sign that's for sure.

Jurassic World 2019 - Rumours, Speculation & Discussion

I mean I don't know why it has to be one Visitor Center over the other... The next Jurassic film doesn't come out until 2021, and the sets based around the franchise (even tangentially apparently) sell very well. So Lego and Universal are clearly trying to drag this out until then--not that that's a bad thing. I'm very impressed with these four sets--in fact I would argue they're the best "Jurassic" sets we have gotten, and they're not even based on the films. Giving the designers more free reign often yields more interesting results--same reason why comic based Marvel sets are superior to MCU ones, because every third set isn't another Quinnjet. Although even if one doesn't like the builds for the these sets, I think it's also undeniable that these four sets have the most detailed and closest to screen accurate dinosaurs throughout the entire line. And dinosaurs are like the whole point of this so that's great! Anyways back on the Visitor Center, I wouldn't be surprised if we end up seeing both versions in brick, if at different scales and price points. Frankly they both have a good/bad problem. The original (while iconic) is only interesting for its interior (its obscured exterior was not even completed, aside from the doorway apparently--and interior for the dino skeletons, we already have a set for the other interesting half of the building), and the new center is only interesting for its architectural interesting exterior.

    HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

Yeah...mostly crappy photos so that doesn't help. I'm not as impressed with the new sets--the School and Bus are clearly the best of the wave and fortunately we saw those first. That said, there's some stuff to love about these ones too. The tan crocodile is totally random and I love it! All the minifigure accessories in Spring Yellowish Green are great (if that might somewhat unfortunately confirm they're not meant to be glow in the dark). The train is just meh for me at the moment, and I don't know what to make of the diner--the angle of the photo is just so terrible I don't think it's fair to judge that one yet. Side note, in the above photo...is the dog supposed to be a ghost-dog? Ala Zero from Nightmare Before Christmas? In the previous images he appeared solid white, and I frankly hated it because I thought the mold looked terrible. But here in this photo the dog seems like he's transparent clear, with a white inner mold? Suddenly more interesting...

    HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

Not having physical ghost figures I think is potentially the weak point of this. It also looks like the possessed characters use a similar design (with a uniform new hairpiece), which is not ideal as having some color variations (like the digital ghosts) at least might increase ones desire to collect them. All the minifigures are expertly deigned—I just hope we get enough characters to offset the lack of physical ghosts. Jack and Parker are amazing, but getting one of them in every set and no ghosts? On the physical brick side of things that could get old fast.

    MOC: Gingerbread Express

The Gingerbread Express All Aboard! So this year, my sister told me I was to make her a gingerbread town, ice rink, and train (among other unrelated things she wanted after browsing Lego Reddit, and all its random wonders). After negotiating, I talked her down to just the train--fortunately! While I do own two trains, this is the first time I've ever built my own. It was an experience. I don't intend to make any more anytime soon however, because I'm not about the life of spending four dollars per wheel. Nonetheless, I'm very happy with how it turned out! Gingerbread creations seem to be all the rage this year, but a gingerbread train was something different. I choose to forgo any real lattice work, which is common for the style, and instead utilize a couple fist fulls of tooth plates I picked up years ago from a PAB wall. The frosting technique, while rudimentary, really started to give the train a cool gooey look, so as I built the rest of the four cars I just went all in! Gingerbread Engine This was both the easiest and most difficult car to build, and its still not right. Getting the wheels to work correctly was a challenge (again, having never designed my own train, all the necessary dimensions/techniques were just unknown to me), but the goop just really worked here! I particularly like the strands of frosting that pour at the back. Gingerbread Hot Chocolate Car For the coal car, I went with a big bright cup of hot chocolate. The train is built using the 9V system, so this cup was largely used to somewhat cover the motor box. I suppose it would have made more sense to incorporate the motor in to the engine (since the motor now just pushes the engine itself forward), but I chose to put it here to keep the engine aesthetically pleasing. Any who, the addition of a giant chocolate chip cookie, peppermint sticks, and a chocolate frog was just icing on the cake. Also icing, added that too. Here you can also see the peppermint sticks that are used to attach the cars to one another. Gingerbread Cargo Car While I wasn't necessarily setting out to make a Christmas themed train, I wanted hints of that--specially in the form of a flatbed with presents. But once I had the flatbed, I just knew I needed to add a large flat gingerbread tree cookie! The giant tree cookie is geared into one of the wheels, so it spins when the train is moving. I of course threw in a bunch of presents in there too, from boxes of LEGO to cellphones and teddy-bears. Gingerbread Caboose For the caboose, I wanted a really cute, tiny car. I used the same poor-mans lattice work from the engine here, to tie the train together, but all in all this was a rather simple end car. --- Thanks for checking this out!

    HIDDEN SIDE - 2019

My hot take: This theme is just about like famous young trendy internet vloggers who don't doubt the existence of monsters, but rather they just want to monetize their existence. Also Lego's gonna make an app for this, 100%

The Lego Movie 2 - The Second Part 2019 Set Discussion

Um, yeah--Do not post movie spoilers here, even in spoiler tags! This is not a film discussion thread. This is a set discussion thread. If you want to talk about the film, do so in the film discussion thread. Everyone please be considerate of the other members and many guests here, who may have not seen the film, but now find themselves in a spoiler minefield instead of a set discussion thread. Thank you!

    MOC: The Moth-Mobile

The Moth-Mobile As is well established fact, Killer Moth is without a doubt the most feared and successful criminal mastermind...to ever hover--menacingly--near streetlights within the city limits of Gotham between 8:00 and 9:45 PM. Along with his trusty sidekick partner co-boss Firefly, the two villains have conquered all within their sight! And it's all thanks to...the Moth-Mobile? I've finally finished what is surely to be my most popular of Moth themed builds, the Moth-Mobile. An idiotically designed monstrosity, with the color scheme of an exploded paint factory, that liberally steals aesthetics from multiple different lesser Batmobiles of a number of different eras, while simultaneously throwing out all those important little things like ground clearance, seat belts, and even the barest hint of structural support around the driver's seat face. The Moth-Mobile! This is the most dangerous vehicle on the road, particularly for those who sit inside it. It has duel mounted machine guns and a battering ram face. The uniquely shaped cockpit is sculpted entirely out of a thin layer shatter proof glass, so you can really see everything coming your way! Also no trunk space. Two neon spoiler wings are attached at the back--to both bring up debilitating flashbacks of Batman & Robin as well as give you the false impression that it can fly. It can't. The back mudguards too might remind you of Batman v Superman, in case you were not angry enough. But don't worry, the large Tumbler-esque tires at the back will surely make you wish this was a Tumbler. It isn't. As you clearly know, the Moth-Mobile was well crafted, and as such it has room for two full passengers and their legs! Styled in a tandem-bicycle form the seats and this interior are also fashionable. I mean just look at that pink leather! And who needs doors when you can climb right in through the sun-roof. That was intentional too! Go get em' boys! --- Well that was fun. I built this like, six or seven months ago--whenever the first pictures of Firefly leaked--and I've been waiting for his physical release to show this off, because you can't have Killer Moth without Firefly. It was an arduous wait to say the least. I'm rather happy with how this vehicle turned out, particularly its utterly gaudy design. Also I'm gonna try something new, so let's see how this goes: As I know Killer Moth is rather popular in the Lego community--due in part to his frequent appearances in the Lego games and multiple physical minifigures--I did take the liberty to preemptively create "instructions" of the Moth-Mobile (as well as my Catmobile) using Bricklink's new Stud.io system. I've never used Stud.io before, so if they're a bit rough then...oh well. You can download the free files of the Moth-Mobile and Catmobile from my Bricklink Studio page. Enjoy! And make you drive fast and recklessly kids!

    MOC: The Moth-Mobile

Thank you everyone--this was a fun build, and I'm happy everyone seems to enjoy it. Those are great guesses! All I'm gonna say is one them has a pickle-cannon. That's all I'm gonna say! Thank you! I figured there would be some members of the community interested in this. Despite his appearances in Lego, Killer Moth doesn't seem to have too many actual builds. Now I just have to get to work on a Moth-Cave!
