Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Agreed. The whole, "Let's make one building be four buildings" really sucks to me. There was nothing better than buying a modular that was just one thing. E.g. I really loved the Palace Cinema, and it's a really prominent piece. Parisian Restaurant, Fire Station, Town Hall... etc. all have that completeness to them, and even with Café Corner, Lego was like, "If you want more floors, buy more sets.", but now it's like, "Buy two sets to have one modular." Not a fan of that kind of thinking, but it's a nice set. I'm a fan of the Jazz Club, and the Pizzeria, but they don't seem to go together so well.

That's cool. It's a shame this isn't just a Jazz Club / music show, as those red bricks truly pop and it would have made a truly great modular on its own. I'm not really a fan of the two buildings side by side... they don't seem to go as well as you'd hope when placed together. Oh okay! I should know that really. 😅 Practically all of mine are still in their boxes, as I still don't have anywhere to put them. 🤦‍♂️ That's true... a pizzeria sign would have looked bad megablocks, and you could have had a slice as part of the pizza sign too, which could have been quite creative and fun.

The double entrance way is really interesting too. With the stained windows on two floors, do we think that's a large double floor for the Jazz club with high ceilings? That could be really nice, if so! I quite like the use of the hot dogs on the Jazz Club sign – clever. Love the Taylor's sign, and hope it's a printed piece. Very cool to have a sign downstairs, for something that's going on upstairs. The pizzeria building looks nice – love the yellow / red / white / green combo, and the ability to sit outside and probably listen to the jazz music. Love that this is more towards the older type of modular buildings. What's on the roof of the pizzeria?

My first thought entirely was, "Fire Station bricks!"

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Could be Monday then. I thought it would be an odd day to share the set (Saturday). That said, it’s awesome that they’ve kept it hidden for so long. Hopefully there will be no leaks, and just an official set release followed by tonnes of YouTube reviews, and then we can all go on a binge. 🍿 Kinda hoping it isn’t the Jazz club too, so we can receive another surprise, but I have a feeling that rumour is true, as it was shared more as factual information. Let’s see what the future brings!

It'd be weird to see them announce something on a Saturday... or do they often do that? Either way, it'd be great to see the official reveal before any leaks, even if I came here to see if anything had leaked yet! 😂

Thanks for this – great design! I've already ordered the Lego parts suggested by @Duq so I will give that a go this coming weekend, as we're going to try to build all 4 trams on Saturday – looking forward to it! Hope your design gets a chance to be made! Thanks for helping too!

@Duq I can't thank you enough – thank you so much! I'm sure this is basic stuff, but to get to grips with elements and MOCs is something that I'm completely unfamiliar with besides modifying a bank truck once to pair with the Brick Bank colour scheme. I'm going to buy these pieces now! I'll be sure to share a film of the resulting tram!!! :D Thank you!!! Here's my winter Christmas train. I'll try to do a similar one for the tram!!! Thanks again, Duq! Can't thank you enough!! 🙌

Thanks, @Duq! Really helpful of you! Thanks so much for the help regarding different elements too! I may try the 32530 for now, and see how I get on, and if it does pull off quite easily, then maybe I'll have to go with the other solution, but that sounds quite complicated for me. 😅 It might be easier if I have the pieces in front of me and have a go though! Thanks!!! Do you know which piece would help each tram attach together with the 32530 element? Thanks so much for your help! 🙌

TRAIN TECH Help, General Questions & Talk to the Staff

Hello everyone, I'm a bit of a train noob – only have the Christmas train in my collection, but I purchased 4 trams from the 10308 Holiday Main Street set, and would like to combine them together to have them running around my Christmas tree. My question: does anyone here have any elements that they'd recommend to help me to connect the trams together? And if so, the code numbers for those elements too? Thanks everyone! I'm really excited to build four trams – my Mum, Dad and girlfriend are going to build one each, as we put the Christmas tree up etc. and then the last one with the power functions, I'll take care of, but I just have no idea how best to connect them. Appreciate your knowledge! Thanks again!!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I instantly disliked the Corner Garage, but I instantly love this one. I think the town house has a little resemblance to the colours of Pixar's Up house, and the book store is truly delightful. It would have been even better if the interior of the book store had more books etc. but I'll wait for the YouTubers reviews, and see what else is to find in there... as it looks like there's a nice ledge where people can go to read a book too... which is pretty awesome, and similar to a book corner that you'd have in a classroom. The details on the edges of the Book Store look great, and I love the facade in general to both buildings. They don't look as nice at the back, but I'd rather there was an imbalance between the front and the back, as we look at the front so much more (unless you have a 360 city). Love the curved staircase outside the town house, and the post here showing multiple layers of them in different colours is pretty amazing... if I had a city, and a tonne of money, I'd buy the bricks to build a row of them for sure. Great that we have a tiled floor in the book shop as well, and lots of great story elements overall with the plane and ladders. Is there a way to get upstairs in both buildings though?

I'd love either of these too. I dislike all the City Police Stations – too oriented towards kids' interests, so a more adult version would be sweet. Yeah, I'm with @nikhkin in that it's unlikely we'd see a modular casino. I think it would be a really great MOC, but as someone who knows someone who lost themselves in a Casino and racked up 5 figures of debt in one evening following being dumped by his girlfriend, I agree that Lego shouldn't promote a casino to children, regardless of the age range stated on the box. 16 isn't old enough for someone to gamble... and whilst playing with toys that centre around gambling isn't illegal, I don't think it's very Lego. E.g. Deadpool never being reproduced as a mini figure once they were aware of his antics etc. At least we're all excited for the new modular though!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

No, we used to in a way... we used to have corner shops / newsagents, where you'd buy your newspapers and a few other bits, alongside sweets. The sweets would be behind the counter, and you could get a bag of whichever sweet you fancied that came measured in weight in front of you... but we don't have anything like that anymore... most people shop at the bigger supermarkets, or online... it's a shame because independent stores have been pretty much put out of business, and town centres / shopping centres are dying due to Amazon et al. Yes, I agree. A Post Office next to a book store would be EPIC! I would love a Post Office on its own, and a Book Store on its own though... I really don't like that Lego feel the need to mix so many things into one building... I get that it can please more people, but single use buildings just have so much room for expanding on ideas... either way, I love every modular building, and will be buying whatever set comes out. I'm with you. I have a tiny office, and around my iMac are different modular sets (PC, BB and DO), alongside the Tree House that was released earlier this year. I am hopefully moving out next year, and I have all the other modulars except for the MS, GG and CC... so I'll hopefully get to make a small town then... it's a shame that the Earth isn't twice the size and buildings aren't half as expensive! That way, I could afford to make a room out of Lego! I'll probably end up having it on shelves, rather than a city... but I really want to use my train track... it only comes out when the Christmas tree goes up.

Haha! I'm sorry. I don't mean to crush anyone's dreams. I hope for you that it's a Soda Shop! I've just never heard of one... in comparison to every other modular building, whereby I know what it is, regardless of which country it belongs to.... if that makes sense? Whereas I think a lot of Europeans might look at it with raised eyebrows, like, "What is it?" But it's cool... I'm all for whatever it is! Ahhh OK! That makes more sense. Thanks for explaining!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

I’m guessing a soda shop is American? We don’t have shops that just sell pop over here — well they do, but amongst other things, such as newspapers — but we have had diners, I think a Soda Shop is very specific to Americans, so I’m uncertain if that would filter down into a Lego set, when they’re not very iconic / known outside of the States? Everyone has seen American Diners in films, but I don’t recall seeing a soda shop??? An ice cream shop would be cool, and reminiscent of the latest Stranger Things’ series too!

Preach! Also, just because a building was built in the 1950s, doesn't mean it wouldn't be around in the 1980s... so a 1950s looking building could still come with 1980s kit, or 2010s if they wanted it to... Anyways, just here for the rumours and excitement! Can't wait for the new modular building!!!

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

Not wrong at all – I would love a book shop; especially if it resembled an English town building, or something like the book shop in You've Got Mail. As an ex-teacher, we used to make such a big deal of our book corner in the classroom, and children would get lost in the world of books there if they had a stimulating book to read. I think book shops would have great storylines for a modular building too. Like in the book, "Words in Deep Blue", there are hidden messages in the book store left by each visitor to the store... not sure how this could be replicated in a modular building, but it's just one example of how book stores can come to life... it could be that special place in the Lego Town where people go to escape the craziness of life. I'd love it!

Yeah, but he sort of dismissed it when he was asked. He seems to think it doesn’t classify as a hotel, though I completely agree with you. I think it’d be completely different. Does seem like too much of a crossover, but if Jamie thinks it... I do agree too... so many mini figures and nowhere for them to live. I’d still love a police station. I would never buy one of the City set versions.

Modular Building Sets - Rumours and Discussion

If Jamie gets his way, it’ll be a hotel? I think he dropped a massive hint in that interview a couple years back, and we’ve had all other rumoured sets really. The garage was rumoured when the Diner was, and instead it followed the year after. a vintage car would sit nicely outside a hotel too, but I agree that’s most likely for next year‘s set (2021).

This set gets pretty bashed on in the Facebook groups as well – I own it, but like most of my modulars, I haven't had the time to build it yet. Looking forward to it, as I did think it looks great in the store!

Such a shame. The London store tends to have older builds still available. I bought the Winter Toy Shop after that was discontinued on eBay, only to go into the store and see it available as new there... it's not worth the flight though! No guarantees! Mental how quickly they sell out once they become discontinued! Definitely pick it up though - such a great build!

Haha! I wouldn't go that far! I'm going to light the winter village setup next year. I had a new camera for this year, and I needed to test its low light performance for my business and see which ISO level I could push it to without getting too much grain, so I figured the train setup was as good of a test as any. Next year, I'm going to properly light it all, and have a go at doing a real commercial level quality film. I really enjoy watching trains go around, so I'm looking forward to seeing what I can do with next year's setup! Shame I don't really have much of a space for a LEGO train if it's not underneath a Christmas tree. Maybe when I move out, I'll make something of a small space within the house and then I can enjoy them year round! Hope your new setup works out well! :)

Hey @Bartosz, I too purchased a Lego Winter Train Station set, but did not find the time to build it, so my setup, shown in the video below, uses only the Winter Train Set, along with the Winter Toy Shop. I believe the vehicle and the train crossing are from the Train Station set, but like I say, didn't have time to build that this year - I'll be sure to do it next year! Hope you enjoy the video - I didn't spend too long on it - I was just testing out the low light capabilities of my camera. This is only lit by the Christmas Tree lights and some ambient light is supplied by the TV. I do have my own video lighting setups, as I do make films for a living, but this test was to see how well the GH5S performs in low light.
