    [MOC] Ye Olde Dragon’s Inn

I'm not the best person to ask for technical tips, but I can offer my opinion. As you know, overall I like it a lot, but if I were to nitpick then I don't really get along with fleshie minifigures in non-licenced themes and especially so when they're mixed with tradtional yellow. Just seems like a mis-match. Other than that, I reckon you could remove the 2nd baseplate and build a smaller body of water under the pier, if you still wanted it. If you were to make it to production, TLG would never release it with a baseplate like that and would be forced to change that part, in my opinion. In regard to the Idea not achieving the support that you thought that it would, I'd say that very few zoom through the stages. You are only a few off getting extra time at 100 votes. Then you have so much more time to build support to get the next extension, which is 1000 votes and also matches you initial target. In short, don't give up or get disheartened.
  3. Congratulations @Delusion Brick. Won't be long 'til 10k :)

    [MOC] Ye Olde Dragon’s Inn

A fantastic build. I really think that the inside of the Inn has atmosphere, like they could start moving at any moment in some Lego stop-motion. I also like the use of natural light, which probably helps with that feeling of life.

    My Viking Disaster

Ok, so recently I decided to splash out and purchase Lego Vikings sets 7018 - Viking Ship Challenges the Midgard Serpent and 7019 - Viking Fort against the Fafnir Dragon. I got a decent deal at around £100 for both sets delivered. When they arrived however, nearly all of the pieces were caked in dust. Not just light, blow away dust, but solidified 'years in the attic' type dust, so I decided to clean them. What is the best way to clean hundreds of individual Lego parts? Put them in the bath with soapy water? Get a wet toothbrush to each piece? No. Those methods would be too sensible - I shoved them in the washing machine in some laundry bags! It's important to note that I was very distracted at the time by my Football (see Soccer for any Americans reading) team playing their biggest rivals in a local derby. So they came out of the wash nice and clean, but covered in tiny scratches! It wasn't the end of the world though because I'm not ever planning on selling these sets, and they were still decent enough to display. Now comes the truly stupid part (remember my distraction). The pieces by now are soaking wet right? So what to do? Dry them by hand? Nah that'd take forever and I want to build the sets. Leave them under a fan? Nah I don't have a fan and that'd take hours. I PUT THEM INTO THE BLOODY DRYER!!! Yes, you read that correctly. £100 worth of beautiful Lego sets into a dryer. Now, to my slight defence, I did set the dryer to a Cold setting with no spin, but my cheapo dryer didn't want to listen to that and put the heat on anyway. So do you want to know what happens when you heat Lego? Well I can confirm that at the heat I used, the larger plates melt first, and smaller plates without internal support just kind of... warp. I'd say that about 25% of the 2 sets were destroyed - but they were *clean* dammit! So, £50 or so of Bricklink orders later and the remaining pieces should be with me soon. Lesson learned. I type this for solidarity and to make @Marghal laugh. Since then I have completed my Vikings collection with all sets except the Chess sets which is ridiculously expensive. I hope to set-up a nice display at some point.

  20. They could sell 2 types. 1. As it currently is. A parent can pick up a random figure for their kid and be happy (although I do believe that they're pricing themselves out of that market now). and 2. They sell a 'set' of the complete series at a slight discount to buying individually, for those wanting to just complete their collection and be done with it.
  21. When I read your post heading I assumed it was because they're sick of pumping out the same City Police sets year after year, so this was a surprise. After reading the article, the email and the updated direct statement from TLG, I'm a little concerned and confused. I sort of understand not *advertising* the police and criminal sets, even though I think it's a bit silly. But why is The White House architecture set on there? It seems like they're taking a political leaning with that, rather than just trying to protect kids.
  22. I have literally just finished building the ship. Overall I like it. My observations... The buildable sails don't stand out as much to me as I thought they would, the skull looks great. The side-ways facing sails only look good from 1 side, naturally. The middle interior is small but you can technically fit 4 cannons inside there (so long as you don't want minifigs behind them or to move between them). The flexi elements that they use as rope don't quite look as good as actual string but it's so much easier that I'm happy with it. You even get a spare. The captains cabin is the only detailed interior that you get but you can fit a couple of minifigs in there easily (and 3 in a squeeze). Your big-fig human hand though, may struggle. I really like the new captain torso but I do wish that the other 2 crewmates were a little more unique. Another small note is that you get a rather large manual that covers both the Ship and Port House builds. The Skull Island build has it's own smaller manual. Also, I was either missing 1 reddish brown barrel or the instructions are incorrect and you're only supposed to have 1. I feel like it may be the latter. I'm glad that I purchased it. I will only buy a 2nd copy if I can get it on sale, just for the port house build.

@Berthil Lovely job. I'd definitely enjoy having a beer there.
  24. Hi everyone, Today I'd like to draw your attention to a Pirate/Imperial related Idea that is currently looking for support. The 'Green Coat Trading Fort' is an idea by a creator called Artistic Shadow (formerly hickernator), a creator whom has already reached the review stage with previous idea, 'Queen - The Miracle Express', so clearly a talented creator. Please check out the below summary and if you like it, support now over at Lego Ideas: I know that this is a little different to the regular Ships and Outposts that are normally posted, but it relates to both Pirates and Imperials (Green Coats in this case! (psst - what nation would that be in your headcanon?)) and I think it's a wonderful design. It can also appeal to fans of Castle, I'm sure. So if you like to support this Idea and not only help Artistic Shadow to get their 2nd review-stage Idea, but also give TLG another hint that the Pirate theme is here to stay, then please support this now.

lego ideas [LEGO IDEAS] Green Coat Trading Fort

I guess that's open to interpretation. Certain British soldiers wore green even in the Napoleonic era, but it's more exciting to think of them as a different nation I think. I'm going with Portugal.
