Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces
antsiranean replied to JopieK's topic in LEGO Train Tech
Gah! I meant to up my pledge to get some more straights, but my internet connection failed and I missed it with less than ten seconds! Annoying. Much less annoying is that the project was funded and that I will get my R56 loop and a few straights. Great day for every train fan! Congratulations to all of us! -

Please post on the front page! I've upped my commitment, but am running low on funds. -
Kickstarter: ME Models Tracks for both metal and ABS only track pieces

I have backed this for as much (little) as I can. Is it relevant enough to make the front page here? Someone who can push for that? That might add some backers. -
MOC: Dm3 - The legendary Queen of the Swedish Iron Ore Line
antsiranean replied to Haddock51's topic in LEGO Train Tech
That's very close to the original, lovely. I'm envious of your skills. And of your bits. On another note, you have to be Swede? If it wasn't obvious enough from the choice of engine, your furniture in the background makes it an easy guess! -

I think this will be the project that makes me register an account on Kickstarter - which is to say something. I'll back for $34 - a full loop of R56 - as soon as I'm done registering. Thanks for all the work done so far! And good luck! Edit: Backed! -
MOC: The new World Trade Center, New York

Yet another voice joins the chorus: Amazing! A truly stunning build. Had I had the money, I would buy it from you and display it as a piece of art. Well; if I had the money, and my wife agreed... -
Speculations about 2h 2012 sets
antsiranean replied to JunkstyleGio's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Am I the only one not being excited by RC models? If I were to choose between the helicopter and the Rock Crawler it would easily be the helicopter, since I find the RC a drawback. If I wanted an RC-car, I'd a a proper one, from Kyosho. I find that much of the fun with lego is actually feeling it, feeling the friction as I rotate the HOG-steering, crawling on my knees as I drive around the floor, feeling the bumps as it moves over the carpet. RC takes all that away from me. Not that I have much experience with Lego RC, I only have the 8043 excavator and the (non RC) wheeled loader 8265. I really like the gearbox of 8043 and it is fun playing with, but I miss the hands-on feeling I get with 8265. Am I all alone in this? -
8110 Unimog building time?
antsiranean replied to bekesizoltan's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
All this talk about building Unimogs makes my mouth water. I'm hoping for it for Christmas, so I'm trying really hard to be a good boy in order to increase my chances. My wife doesn't really understand the beauty of Lego. But she does understand me, so there's hope. At least I migth get the small mobile crane, 8067 i think it is, which I think is a really nice model. Lots of functions for such a small model. But bigger is better... Two more days, and then it's Christmas. I'm feeling like a five year old, and it's wonderful! -
Differentials on 8258 and 8110?
antsiranean posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I have a very important question on a serious matter, so I hope that someone out there might give men an answer. The basic problem is a very complicated one for me: should I get 8258 or 8110? Yes, I know that 8258 won't be for sale much longer, but still it's hard to choose. To make things easier for me: 1) How many differentials does 8258 have, and where are they? Center diff? On all four wheel pairs? 2) How many diffs does 8110 have? Center diff? 3) A very subjective question; which is the most fun to drive around the living room floor? I don't really like the feeling in driving the big wheel loader, 8265, and am wishing for something better, smoother. 4) Which has the best play value? 5) Which is the best build? At least the first two should be easy to answer, so please: a little help? -
Differentials on 8258 and 8110?
antsiranean replied to antsiranean's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's easy to get hold of in the long country of Sweden, there's at least a dozen web stores that carries it. Is it that hard to get hold of out there in the big, big world? And I think I'll go for 8258. You've all made me att bit wiser on the subject matter, and I think it might be possible for me to buy the truck in november, and still get 8110 for christmas. Or, if that doesn't work, maybe for birthday in spring. Which leads my to another question: is there one or two flagship models every year? -
Differentials on 8258 and 8110?
antsiranean replied to antsiranean's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Blakbird: "You are going to have to get both" is exactly what I want to hear, but not so much to my wife's liking... I'll keep on considering this important matter, a little bit wiser than before. Thanks! -
I left the dark ages a couple of months ago, and after having built the motorized excavator 8043 and being in the process of building a wheel loader, I am thinking about building a castle as a fall project. So, I need to buy loads of grey bricks and panels from Bricklink. Buying used is a bit cheaper than new, but how used is used? Do I run the risk of teeth marks, heavily scratched or discolored bricks? Or, if that is the case, does it say so on Brick link? I want a shiny castle, not one with bite marks in it...

New (old) member - ordered a few kits!
antsiranean replied to blakeatron's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Well, an obvious reason not to do both is that it would cost twice as much. And to me it seems more fun to spend it all on Lego, instead of 50/50 on Lego/strip club. So, the question will be: why not double all your Lego spendings. You're not going to the strip club, right? -
Which kit should I get - 8258, 8043 or 8053?
antsiranean posted a topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi! I just turned 31 and am seriously considering getting myself a lego techic kit, the first in twenty years. It has really happened a lot in those years, while yet it all is so familiar. Wonderful. I do hope my wife understands my yearning for these great toys... So, question is, which kit should I wish for? Top candidates are 8043 Motorized excavator. Looks really good, loads of functions, motors, remote controll and all. Expensive though. My 2-year old son would love it. It also makes me nostalgic, I never got the excavator model ~1990... 8258 Crane truck. I love that crane arm. Really cool truck. No remote controll though, and I can't use it to clean up other toys while I'm sitting in my arm chair... Also expensive, but loads of bits (1877 compared to roughly 1200 for the other two). 8053 Mobile crane. Another great looking model (they all are). No engines, but quite a bit cheaper than the other two. And a lot of functions. 8069 Backhoe loader. Nice, but quite a bit smaller than the rest. Cheaper though, so it would be easier to convince my wife. Also a nostalgic kit, I still remember the backhoe loader of the late -80's. What do you suggest? I'm looking for a challenging build that'll take me a good number of hours, with loads of functions. Something that'll make me fell eleven years old again... -

antsiranean replied to antsiranean's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Thanks, but too late. And wrong country as well... I got a 8043 for birthday present a month ago. But there's sure someone who'll get a 8043 cheaper than I did, so thanks again. -
CHEAP and QUICK 8043 enchancements!
antsiranean replied to Out of Sight's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
It's a nice mod (I think, I haven't really tried yet), but a few things are missing from the inventory list. Which is why I haven't really tried, I everything listed from Bricklink, but miss a few pieces. Here's a completed list, with corrections noted. And colors suggested Liftarm 1 x 15 yellow (2) = 1.40 Liftarm 1x9 yellow (2) - for attaching the bucket Liftarm thin 1 x 4 dark gray (3) = 0.24 Liftarm 1x7 yellow (2)= 0.60 Liftarm thin 1x3 dark grey (4) = 0.12 - 4 and not 2, for lengthening the LA Liftarm thin 1x3 black (1) - for the saggy butt problem, goes between the two Liftarms w/stud connectors Liftarm 1 x 4 thin w/stud connectr black (2) = 0.16 Bushing 1/2 (4) =0.32 6L axle (1) = 0.05 4L axle (1) - for attaching the LA to the dipper arm 3L axle (2) = 0.08 Technic pin long friction ridges (2) = 0.14 2L axle notched (2) 0.08 I think that should be it. Now I need to get a few missing parts from BL. And that was my first, hopefully, usefull post on this forum. So far it's mostly been "I like this", "I like that" and "Help!" -
How used is "used" on bricklink?
antsiranean replied to antsiranean's topic in General LEGO Discussion
That I did not know. I suppose I will go for blue grey, since the current version of grey ought to be easier (and cheaper) to get. Thanks for the advice! -
What Should the Next Lego Technic Flagship Be?
antsiranean replied to DLuders's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I do agree, a road grater would be nice, but maybe it resembles a bulldozer (was it 8275?) to much in functions? What I want is something RC that I can use to shovel all my kids toys from the floor, to a nice pile in the corner of the room. A road grater would do the job. -
MOC's at Star Wars Event Legoland Germany 2011
antsiranean replied to legopapa's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The good thing about internet, is that whenever my wife thinks I'm a bit goofy, it doesn't take minutes to find someone who's far worse. I really love those creations, and had I only had the money, the time and the space I would give it a try myself. If, if, if... -

YEEEEEES!!! I got 8043 from my parents for my birthday! Big present with wonderfull, insantly recognizable sound when shaked - it hasn't been so fun to open a present in untold years! So now I've got the wheel loader 8265, I've got an excavator and I have 30 pounds of mixed lego lots coming in within the next few days. Out of the dark ages with a bang! MOAHAHAHA!!! -

Your wife bought you a UCS 10178 AT-AT?! You really do have a lovely wife. I wish mine would do the same, but it's not likely to happen. But she's still lovely... -
I really love this one! One of the best I've seen in the forum so far. Elegant, smooth, obviously extremly fast. And white. Lovely! Inspiring!

Think I'm drifting towards becoming an AFOL...
antsiranean replied to MiniJunkie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
It's great to hear how many dads there is out there, and just about everyone seems to have made their come back into Lego when their kids started playing with it. As I said before - so did I, three weeks ago. When I was a kid I was always into MOC, I don't think a set built after instructions ever lasted longer than three days before being disasembled and rebuilt in a different fashion. I suspect I will continue in the same vein. Since Lego is rather expensive I'm looking for second hand and just found 22 pounds for ~85 euros, Great! MOC's, here I come! But what I really would like to see in this thread is a married woman, complaining how her husband doesn't fully understand her Lego needs. Anyone out there? -

antsiranean replied to MiniJunkie's topic in LEGO Star Wars
What's an "AFOL"? Am I one? 31 years old and have just bought my first Lego set in two decades, a technic whell loader 8265 that I'm building with my four year old daughter. It's great to be back. Minijunkie, I recognize the problems with convincing your wife. I've been painting warhammer figs for twenty years now and it took her a while before she really understood it. And now I'm on to Lego. Top tip: involve your son as much as possible, your wife will then be much more understanding. Mine even told me that "Seeing you build together with your daughter opens up a lot of possibilities for you..." The only drawback is that building is really, really slow. But then, in a way that gives me more value for my money. In short: enjoy!
