    Harry Potter 2018 - Rumors & Discussion

I don't have much time to talk about them, or look through your guys' disscussion (sounds like some CMF details were leaked :D ) but I'm here to say I love, love, LOVE, the three sets LEGO revealed yesterday. The Womping Willow looks fantastic, even though the set isn't just the tree, and just like the Great Hall it'll probably be a day one purchase. The Hogwarts Express and Quidditch Pitch are slightly less grabbing (mostly due to the price and how much I've already bought this year XD ) but I adore the fact we're getting a train station and towers for all the houses! For those curious, I've updated my list of Harry Potter characters in need of minifigures with the new info, but if this CMF talk I'm hearing is official it may be outdated again already! I'll be back to check it out later. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HdYacXq49v3-w7jvcmF-ihYDuZsiGVoy9ZaERGckbG8/edit?usp=sharing

She wasn't in any sets the last time around, but LEGO has gotten better about making obscure minifigs into sets. It could go either way!

In the videogame I'm pretty sure she had the exact same torso as Hagrid, but Hargrid's new minifig has a little bit more Hagrid-specific definition, so if they make her in real life now it would probably have to be a new mold.

You have no way of knowing this but I don't usually collect licensed theme stuff, mostly original IP's like BIONICLE and Ninjago. It's not them being licensed characters done badly that bothers me, it's that a lot of unlicensed and similar calaber licensed characters are usually better and often in cheaper sets. But I didn't say anything about the hair. The skirt's the thing that bothers me 'cause they're usually always printed. I'm fine with bland legs, but unprinted skirts just seem like a giant blank spot, like the fig is a torso growing out of a wall. If they didn't print her torso a lack of skirt printing may have worked, but as it is the figure goes from tons of detail to absolutely no detail really fast, and it breaks my immersion. Bob from LU looks fine 'cause he has no torso or leg printing, Boba Fett looks fine 'cause he has both torso and leg printing, 2008-ish City Cops look fine cause they have torso printing and no leg printing and the torso print doesn't extend toward the legs, but having someone cop out of a design style halfway through (ie. print half a dress) is just bad form.

The actual set parts of this Fantastic Beasts set are ...well... fantastic. The minifigs, not so much. The first thing I noticed when the set images came out was a lack of skirt printing, haven't looked too closely at Grindlewald to see how much they messed him up but apparently it's badly. That Thestral is to die for!

However, it is worth noting that Brickset (currently) has all the sets grouped under the theme "Wizarding World." This is in no way confirmation that they are the same theme, but it's something to keep in mind when looking for the sets on similar databases and news sites.

For the Justice League Brickheadz they released four of them in one go (Aquaman, Cyborg, Wonder Woman, and Flash) and the last two are coming out later this year (Tactical Batman and Superman.) They're definitely willing to make multiple waves of Brickheadz for a specific franchise, however if memory serves each wave always has an even number of characters. Now that we're getting the $15 packs with a full Brickhead and a small one that may change, but I'm banking on some other character coming out whenever they do Ron (probably Newt, Dumbledore, or Voldemort. Who knows, maybe they'll do all four!)

From the moment we started hearing about the set I hoped so. The price range seems about right for how it looks in game, but the leaked description mentioned a swinging arm and/or bashing function (can't remember the exact wording,) so it's probably not exactly the same.

Your predictions seem accurate, given how LEGO has handled HP and similar licenses in the past. The D2C has so many possebilities for characters, who knows what will be inside!

Agreed. With pin holes facing in different directions more than one set is going to connect to the Great Hall, and the only thing behind the Great Hall is the entire rest of Hogwarts. I don't want the D2C to have a Great Hall. Sure it's the most iconic part of the castle, but it's also a bit of a separate part of the castle. The Great Hall stands on it's own as a thing, while the Quad+rooms and Courtyard+rooms stand out as their own sections from the back and one giant section from the front. Splitting the two is perfect from a design and scale perspective, and I'd be super annoyed to drop $100 on a GH set when it'll just be slapped into a $500 one later. Give me an amazing $500 build for the rest of the castle and not a $400 cluttered build with something I've already got!

Something important to note is that if you look at a map of Hogwarts the Great Hall+Staircase Tower are around 1/6th of the castle, if the D2C is a dollhouse style set that combines with the Great Hall set it could probably cover the entire castle (sans dungeons)

The D2C may come with extra banners attached to where the Great Hall attaches, so you could have all four banners on display at once.

In addition LEGO Star Wars books usually cover things from the entirety of the franchise, often having side by side comparisons of past and present models. I got a Star Wars minifigure book a while back that listed every fig and their variants, but it usually only showed the most recent version with the number of past versions and a few small pictures of them listed in the trivia section.

I mean that it would be weird to have it in both the Great Hall set and the final chamber. It's decent sized build, and by the looks of things all the stickers for the final battle in the Underground Chamber are included in the Great Hall set. It would be weird to ruin its exclustivity by having it pop up in a future set, so if LEGO is planning on making the Underground Chambers they've probably cut it out and would be willing to cut out more. I think a comparison I could make would be: you know how the Ford Angela is rumored to be in the Whomping Willow set? LEGO probably wouldn't put the Ford in the next remake they do of the Hogwarts Express (like they did in 2010.) Even though it was in both scenes, they don't need it in both so they cut it from one.

I think it would be cool if we got a "Wizard's Chess" chess set with Harry, Ron, and Hermione as swapable figures. LEGO has done Chess Sets before (especially for Pirates and Castle) so a more traditional one with a little bonus HP content would be fun. I'd mainly want this because in the original version of the third floor corridor set the only representation of the chess scene was one poorly printed queen. I'd prefer a remake to put more attention into fluffy and maybe include extra flying keys while the chess pieces get their own thing. The Mirror is already in the Great Hall set after all, so they aren't afraid to split up the scene! Hey guys so, I decided to make a thing. What with all the rumors circulating around what figs we'll get in the D2C I decided to go through the Harry Potter Wiki and figure out which movie each character first appeared in. I then condensed those characters into a color coded list detailing weather or not they got a set release and which "era" they have appeared in most recently. I didn't make a full list of EVERY character in the films though, background characters with no names (sans unnamed teachers and people with scenes focused on them) where cut. I also didn't include every variant of the characters, only notable changes: for example, Hermione in her Hogwarts robes and her in her pink shirt and grey jacket I'm not counting as separate entries, but her in her Hogwarts robes and her as a cat are. I did kind of rush this list so, it may not be perfect. Below I have the characters for films 1 and 2. If you want to see all 7 check my Google Doc here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1HdYacXq49v3-w7jvcmF-ihYDuZsiGVoy9ZaERGckbG8/edit?usp=sharing I plan on updating this doc when new characters are announced, as so far we only know who'll be in the Great Hall and that Aragog will almost certainly be in the $15 Aragog set.
