LEGO Star Wars 2021 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!!!
RODDY replied to MKJoshA's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The more news I get of the UCS Gunship, the more I think that they should have made a UCS Nebulon B and a system scale Gunship. The Gunship is a great design on its own, but filling it up with clones and jedi is the other part of the equation. The Nebulon B could have the same number mini figs as the UCS Falcon and it would be perfect. Leia, Bathrobe Luke, R2, C3PO, the medical droid and Smuggler Lando. -
Personally I think the Fluffy set is going to pretty hollow on the inside, the build next to the tower is probably where you are supposed to put Fluffly, because the tower is too small. If there’s a Final Challenge set coming (which fingers cross I do), the Fluffy set would have a trapdoor leading to it so you can place the Final Challenge set beneath it. Just like how Moaning Myrtle set is supposed to go above the Chamber of Secrets. I would assume it’s probably the $60 or $120 set which comes complete with the Devil Snare, Keys, Chess, and Mirror. If we get a Flying lesson remake before a Dueling Club remake, bro.....

It’s definitely the 2011 version with the dragon on top. Weird.

Anything Quidditch is just a big meh from me. Good opportunity for those who missed the Bricktober pack to get Hooch, but just incredibly unnecessary. Awesome stuff, congrats man!

https://ibb.co/album/HnmZhL This is the way I have it setup so it’s on the inside connected to the tower portion of the Astronomy Tower.

Personally I think that shot is a bit deceptive, I have seen a couple of unboxing YouTube videos and the box doesn’t off come as big as it does here. The angle doesn’t show off the space for the box hinges to close in, biting from the size. Then you got the manual which takes up around a third of volume. Some people go by PPR, others go by volume, personally I like to go by the physical footprint of the set, especially when I’m forking at or north of a $100. I go by physical footprint because at the end of the day, you’re not going to remember how many pieces a set has or how much it weighs, but the you’ll always remember how the final set looks on a shelf. This is an amazing set packed with details I’m not going to deny it, and I grew up watching Winnie the Pooh so I have a soft spot. But this set just doesn’t have the physical footprint that I expect at a $100. Sometimes I break that rule if it’s a set I really want, but as much as I love Winnie, I really don’t have the desire or space to own it. There’s too many great sets that do have a physical footprint and much more desirable than Winnie. Gardens, Blacksmith and the June HP wave are my priority rn. But this set really does make me want to see a fleshed out Whomping Willow from POA but at $80.

Lego has not been stingy with new molds for HP at all, I think they went above and beyond what they needed. The Stag Patronus (My favorite Lego piece ever), The Rabbit Patronus, The Otter Patronus, Buckbeak, Centaurs, Fluffy, Basilisk, Beauxbaton’s hairpiece, there have been a lot of great new moulds for HP. The only noticeable one is Fang but I think Lego really killed it in the creature department thus far. I think the biggest criticism is new faces, but meh I’ll take new molds over faces any day.

I have to agree with this, the Winnie the Pooh set looks ridiculously small for a $100, looks about $70 if I’m being quite honest. You’re telling me that is the same price of The Burrow, that’s absolutely absurd. I’ll take the new Great Hall/CoS over it any day of the week.

Those PPRs honestly scare me, these are probably some sort of gimmicky sets like those action battle sets that Star Wars had a couple years back. I really hope they are normal sets, more Anniversary sets would be dope, but I’m not holding my breath.

Exactly besides the “Harry, I’m your Godfather” scenes, nothing of importance really happens there, so I don’t have much of a connection to it. And the architecture isn’t like Diagon Alley where it’s beautiful, it’s just some snowy taverns. I’ve bought every single HP set so far in the reboot(bar microscale Hogwarts), and I think this might be the first one I skip out on because of space constraints.

1) Chamber of Secret: Very curious to see the interior of this beast, especially in the GH Tower portion. Gonna make or break the set. Also excited to see that new Lockhart and Dumbledore variants (Dumbledore has some great minifigs in the recent lineup) along with Colin Creevy. Also seeing the first Lego Basilisk in HD 2) Forbidden Corridor: Again the interior is the big wild card here, part of hopes it isn’t all hollow and there’s at least a portion for the Devil’s Snare and Trapdoor 3) Girl’s Bathroom: Cat Hermione mold is definitely the big draw here along with how the sinks move, hopefully revealing a hole that leads to a slide. 4) Hogsmeade: This set looks great for what it’s representing but I’ve never cared for the location much myself. Atm, Dumstrang Ship and Second Task. Always had an affinity for the sea and for GOF so I’m a bit biased here. I really want to round off that book/film. Give us the boat, a bunch of sea floral where the hostages are tied up (Honestly it doesn’t even have to be screen accurate, make it more colorful to make it pop) and give us the docks they jump off. Minifigs: Gilly Harry, Shark Krum, Igor Karkaroff, Second Task Fleur, Gabriella, Rita Skeeter, Hermoine, Second Task Cedric, 4x mermaids, 6x Grindylow A completely tricked out Gringott’s would be nice too. One that sizes with the rest of DA but comes with a fully fledged Ironbelly and a detachable underground portion with the minecarts and Lestrange and Potter vaults.

I think the Basilisk is absolutely glorious in its current state. So happy after that 2018 one. I remember there was a good amount of backlash for example Privet Drive for having a CoS set in a OoTP/HBP wave and the sand green of the Astronomy Tower. Year before was the large amount of head reuses for Krum and Fleur and other characters. Point is there’s always been complaints. Whenever they are baseless it’s up to you. Being here since the 2018 HP thread, I think it’s just that now that this thread has a lot more following, we’re getting a lot more different opinions and takes. Which is cool, because I like hearing what others have in mind. Ultimately do I believe people are quick to jump on the gun, sure, but I think out all of the complaints, this year’s is definitely the most warranted and I say that as someone who enjoys these new sets. It’s a wide left turn from we were expecting.

They’re probably from the August sets, possibly confirming we might be getting more anniversary sets. Unfortunate but totally understandable. Thanks for the info so far! Thank you for this, I’m really sick and tired of the politics talk. Just because someone has different political views, doesn’t mean they are worthless and irredeemable as a human being. The lack of understanding in this world is absolutely mind boggling and terrifying of late. It’s a shame we have come to this. I’ll send you a DM your way

Let @KA1 share his info, doubting people right off the bat doesn’t help anyone. If he’s wrong, FalconFan will tell us.

Yeah I definitely agree with everything you said, and I do see these sets doing pretty well. 2022 is definitely going to be interesting, I think the Anniversary style might be here to stay for Hogwarts extensions unless it really bombs. The rest of sets where it’s not Hogwarts based will be in like Hogsmeade. Maybe one more 2018-2020 style Hogwarts extension for DH final battle, but I think it’s pretty much over. The Anniversary style has longevity going for it because with more interior focused sets, we can get so many classrooms like DADA or Umbridge’s Office fully fleshed out and keep HP running for years. As for too much Hogwarts Lego probably thinks how the Death Star is to Star Wars, Hogwarts is to HP so they always have to have some iteration of it on store shelves. But I really do hope we at very least get Gringott’s, because while I absolutely love DA in its current state, it’s still undoubtedly missing its centerpiece. Borgin and Burke’s as well would be nice to get.

I highly doubt there’s a new team in, case in point being Hogsmeade definitely still resembles the 2018-2020 style. I just think Lego had two problems with the Hogwarts expansions. The first being there wasn’t anymore iconic exterior portions of the castle left to make in that style. Bell Towers aren’t very well known or that aesthetically pleasing to warrant its own set. The second being is that a lot of highly requested scenes like Chamber of Secrets were simply too big to do in the 2018-2020 style without sacrificing the exterior detail or keeping the price a certain range. All the interior space was rather vignette style and compact. Like this new Great Hall clocks in at $130 being way less detailed, imagine if the 2018 prototype saw light of day, it would have been $170-180 easy. So what I personally think Lego did was use the 20th anniversary as a loophole. This way fans could get the highly requested larger scenes without being constricted by the exteriors. Add the nostalgia factor as well, and I could see why they saw $$$ in these sets. Will it be a mistake, time will only tell, but I can guarantee that Chamber set will be popular with kids and collectors alike, especially with that basilisk.

$250 micro Ministry of Magic?

Leaving Hogwarts > any other HP score. Always gotta go with John Williams imo

You wouldn’t dare...

Alright dissing Sirius Black is one thing, but dissing Lupin... that’s enough hot takes for one day

Yes, I’m nostalgic for the original Hogwarts sets. Sure they aren’t the prettiest things, but the modular idea of stacking them in any array of combinations is what made them awesome. I also love the rocky foundation much more, gives the set more presence as a castle.Yeah the interior was kinda empty, but that wasn’t an Hogwarts exclusive thing, that’s because it was 2001 and we have come a long way since. Just look at the Jabba’s Palace and extensions in 2003, that thing is barren but it’s still a great set because of its modular nature, the need to collect them all. So I’m excited to see this philosophy be applied with a modern approach and building techniques. The 2018-2020 Hogwarts extensions were great and detailed, but the interiors definitely could have been better. For example The 2004 Lupin’s Classroom kills the new one in Clock Tower because it’s not forced to be squished and it has elements that actually represent it. The Bogart Chest, The staircase, the white dragon skulls to represent the fossil hanging from the roof. The Great Hall tower is empty space, and there are two separate potions classrooms. Dumbledore’s Office while decent, should have definitely taken up a larger foot print, knowing how grand it is in the films. In the end, it really comes down to if you prefer the exterior over the interior, or vice versa and how far are you willing to sacrifice either way. Personally I’m all for this, especially if it means we can finally get some pivotal moments like the Chamber of Secrets or the Three Challenges in Lego form. But I do understand those who like the 2018-2020 versions better, and knowing that a majority of AFOLS here display their sets, the backlash is expected.

For the 2018-2020 Hogwarts I’m pretty satisfied with what we have rn. The GH, WW, CT, AT, together are perfect and we got a good variety of rooms. More additions and I think it begin will look a bit much and there really isn’t any iconic parts of the exterior castle left. Sure you could argue the Bell Towers, but it’s nowhere near as architecturally interesting as both CT and AT. So it’s not high up on my list. As for the Anniversary Hogwarts, I hope that we at least get the Three Challenges in some way, shape or form. The one thing that the 2018-2020 Hogwarts sets didn’t do right is capture pivotal scenes from the first two films and here’s a chance to make things right here. Everything else is gravy, though I wouldn’t mind a Dueling Club and a Troll on the Loose remake. Personally I’m with you, these sets are incredible. The new GH is a homage to every iteration of HP so far. The elevation of the 2001 Hogwarts and Chamber, the Hall itself reminds of the 2010 version, and imagine the interiors and minifigs of the 2018 version. Definitely picking all these up, though I’m a bit disappointed if the Forbidden Corridor doesn’t have a trapdoor and Devil Snare.
-
So where does the Forbidden Corridor connect to the Great Hall since it has no rock elevation.

Please tell that Basilisk stays the same
