This is absolutely fantastic. I'm a naval architect and this is the best ship model I've ever seen in Lego! -
Marvellous! I had to think of theBlack Dahlia (hardly a lego topic ;)

I basically agree. I've been to the States twice. Each time I didn't have a car and I took a city bus. San Diego and Virginia City. They are not bus minded. Very weird experience. I ended up walking miles. Having said that, i just bought the three story Harry Potter bus. I'm curious about the three brick wide windows. -

I think that a Chinese restaurant is a good guess. I've been wanting to make a MOC of a Chinese restaurant for a while now, but I never seem to have time. Quite a few eastern themed sets have come out recently and they clearly were appreciated worldwide. -

Hi, thanks for your replies. I also saw that one this morning... Now that I look at all the pictures again, I'm pretty sure it was indeed this one. Strange how your memory can play tricks on you. I thought that what I saw a while ago, was purely a combination of two sets of 31097 with a 32x32 footprint and I thought it was a different kind of building. But I also remember that it said something about apartments, as it does here. So yeah, I think it was this one. Anyway, I enjoyed building 31097. It's good for parts and I think it's a good way to introduce kids to the modulars. Lego has come such a long way since I was a kid in the early 80s with all the different colors and so many more different kinds of bricks. I've recently come out of my dark age and I often wonder if it's not too overwhelming for kids to create something themselves nowadays, but that's another topic ... -

Hi guys, Apologies if this is not the right place to post this, but it's driving me nuts. I am building 31097 and I remember I recently saw a really nice MOC, which combined two sets of 31097 to make a nice modular sized building. I've searched every site that I might have visted over the last month (eurobricks, brothers brick, ...), but i just can't find it anymore. I came across the modern living house on rebrickable this morning, but that wasn't it. Anybody has an idea what I'm talking about and where it might be? -

I've been hoping for a garage in a modern style to go next to the dinner. I think I'd prefer just two floors (on the left) with a larger 48x32 footprint that could still form a corner modular. -
I really appreciate the dedication to your dad. Amazing creations on your flickr account! Very inspiring.

It would make perfect sense to me - Garage / petrol station would be great on a 32 x 48 layout. -

Yes yes yes! I'm sure, this would look great next to the diner. I was playing with this idea for a MOC, but I have yet to start. -
Marvellous! I had to laugh when I saw that guy applying green paint in the vase modelling class. He seems very enthusiastic Very very nice.

In our lakeside town, there isn't a lot of crime. A lot of pets go missing and suitcases get mixed up, but Ace Brickman is really good at solving these cases. The cop isn't much use - she's almost always at the hairdresser's. She does give out a lot of fines to the fancy sports cars that go over the speed limit. So, thankfully, no need for a police station in this peaceful town. A museum or a garage / car mechanic, though, would be really welcome. -

Well said. I like DD. I very much enjoyed building it with some interesting new techniques and I think it looks great next to AS or DO. After 10 years, I'm glad they're moving on to a more modern style of architecture and I hope they will continue on this path. It was mentioned somewhere that you have to see it as a traditional building that was renovated to house a very modern diner (I think it was in a recent interview with Jamie https://zusammengebaut.com/interview-mit-jamie-berard-achterbahn-diner-taj-mahal-und-co-51257/ I can't listen to it right now). This mish mash doesn’t seem to appeal to a lot of people, but you do see it a lot in real life. The beauty of the arches would probably have stood out better if it had been a corner building. Maybe it would have been better to just have a drastically modern building. -

I agree ! When the DD was released, I immediately thought it would be great next to a automobile repair shop / petrol station. It could look really great. With two nice cars added in. I thought the car from the DD was great actually. 1. automoble repair shop / petrol station 2. museum 3. post office would be my favourites
