    NEW MEMBERS TRAIN TECH Registry

I for one am very interested in this. Where abouts in MI... I'm near Ft Wayne IN. I'm impressed with your portfolio of designs... Hopefully it will transfer over to Lego easily. You will find some are squeamish about modifying Lego. Generally if it sticks with the general "idea" and "spirit" of Lego it can be overlooked by most. I personally don't disassemble trains once they are built. So If I modify something on one I'm OK with it.

[MOD / MOC] The Zoo Train

So I figured I would share my "story" of the zoo train. One of the couples in my LUG have a lovely zoo layout they display. In chats we have talked how they want to add a rail way to their layout and include a train with excursion cars. Well one night I felt inspired and designed a open car. well you have to have something to pull it so … while looking through light rail photos I came across a photo of a CP Huntington. My mind said that looks familiar - so I pull up the Holiday Train … Huh pretty close. I remember seeing this thing at our local zoo so I search photos of the local zoo train and what do ya know its a CP Huntington. So I originally recolored the holiday train but was not happy with it because "steam trains should have RODS!" so a search brought me to "THIS" thread. I went through the trouble of verifying the colors in brick and amassing a bricklink order. luckily I didn't pull the plug that night and buy the bricks lol. as I'm looking at this I say … its not right … the zoo train is smaller. So I build it smaller and in its correct configuration (Tender attached). While fairly happy with the rough draft I could not get it easily motorized and looking right. So I go back to the Holiday train . . . I pulled the front end off and reworked the rear then installed the Battery box on board like the real CP. so now I have a full sized engine that I'm happy with. However it wont track around curves as I cant go around standard Lego curves its useless to me … a redesign of the rear truck was in order. The tender actually swings out away from the track in a curve now with a double jointed system keeping the rear truck inline. I will know how well this works once assembled in brick but its no different than other truck designs I've seen here however as its not driven by the actual Driving wheels and instead by the front truck (MOTOR) I think it should be ok. Also I reworked the last cars on the first two to include the rear facing seat that is popular at a few of the larger surrounding zoos. All three have a similar boiler arrangement. … And Just for Posterity here's all three. I kept the reworked Caboose cause its "cute" even though I wont run it. I know I mentioned in the other thread but This will be Powered Up driven the PF battery is just a place holder! there is a channel under the floor board and a slot just in front of the battery for the motor wire to come up through and be plugged in. Thanks for viewing comments and criticisms are welcomed!

[MOD / MOC] The Zoo Train

Thanks! Unfortunately the interior is made up of angular plates. I have filled all gaps in the boiler with brick so she's not hollow. I'm hoping it will do alright seeing as the holiday train is lighter (less bricks) and pulls about the same no issue... The open cars are pretty light weight lol. I'm looking forward to it as well! But then it might miss a pump lol I will keep that in mind should the current set up not work out so well so thanks!

Piston Rods for Winter Holiday Train 10254

That is exactly how we ran it at our December show - with some customized wagons - you'll find the rotating tree robs some power from it, however if you can run it on 9V its even better because you can rid the ugly battery box all together and have a load of coal! the 9V wheels look great on it and it doesn't care that the tree rotates.

    [MOC] Climatology Survey

The met tower is great looks like everything is there. The gem is the Rover! I may have to "blatantly copy" er... Um.... Borrow... Yea borrow the design. The base is great as well I love the tire tracks. Well done on the sand spilling over the box. My only issue is by itself with figs the rover looks too tall but once in the scene it's perfect so maybe that's just an illusion.

It's OK we're a great support group... We completely support your MADNESS! LMAO This is even better than before. I showed your original to a lug member and we both want to integrate it into the clubs layout. Any pictures of the "support system" would be welcomed! I bet the kids love seeing floating cars lol how many look under the table!

    [COR-FB2] Quinnsville Quayside

Quinntsvile got it! Lol @Mesabi ... It seems your put the cart before the horse... Or lack there of... Was this one hauled off for sausage? Even if it's beyond the "bounds" you've set up for the build it would have been a good seat... Or leave the yoke off the cart.

Piston Rods for Winter Holiday Train 10254

At risk of being abused about the head and ears... I want to thank @ALCO for posting this. The holiday train is always a favorite even when not in season at our clubs shows. I have reworked the original design to look like our local zoo train to include in our clubs zoo layout. Pics once I get the design finalized! But a simple search of adding rods to holiday train and bam!

Clever base... Looks like low tide I agree with the figure posing. The rock work blends well with the vegetation.

    [GoC] Northern Garrison

This is a fun build... I like that the roof is being redone and there's is other action to see. I do wish the brick bricks were red though to match the prefab walls.

Sadly it looks like we will fall short of the supporters needed... What are the plans from here? Would love to build this one for myself!

    [COR-FB] WTC Office Arlinsport

Your building is rather drafty. Nothing ruins a decent build quicker than bricks not seated properly. It would be different if the brick is needing to be unseated to give the proper effect however this is not the case. This is a reoccurring issue in several of your builds. Are you afraid you won't get the bricks separated? Do you need a human interface tool? ... I'm would be happy to send you one if you don't have one. It just makes a sloppy presentation as if your in such a hurry that you didn't stop to look it over. Other than that I would have liked to see lanterns in the headlight bricks by the door or an awning. Or just a plain brick instead.
