    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

Building of the superstructure has stared. Rather fiddly, difficult trying to keep the interior build neat and sturdy. Bridge is done, though the neck needs to be re-worked, going to have to use the more steeper sloped pieces due to the shortage of the 1x2 sloped pieces, and to save space. Interior superstructure rest needs to be angled so it can fit better on the main body.

Building moved back to the table now that the stand and bottom panels are down. Train bumper magnets used to hold the bottom panels in place. Detailing has also started. Working on the bridge and superstructure to commence!

Work on the bridge is under way, starting with modifications to the tractor beam array. Turned out well in my opinion. Next is to build the main bridge body in conjunction with the top panels, which have fitted nicely with the main body.

Finally finished the underside panels. The hangers need to be built, though the stand comes first. Tractor beam dome is pretty undersized, but not much i can do about it. It has a very sturdy beam holding it in place, as a part of the stand and helps holds the panels in place.

    First Order TIE Fighters

The more i look at the winds, the precise angles of the cockpit and the stud-less design. How is it possible with these crude bricks and devices? Are we witnessing a Lego-God among men? In all seriousness, i can't image designing something like this, my brain would leak out of my ears. Great stuff!

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

Well, the Landing Craft dropped out of nowhere, with a great opportunity for some Sandtroopers. I was planning to get the x-wing, but after seeing those helmets... Now i have an alternative. Should have ditched R2 and obi wan for 2 more troopers though, like the original.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

I heard it form another page. General the difference is the colours being duller, clutch being looser, etc... It isn't a huge deal really, but i was curious if this was unique to star wars. Also, the CMF line is known for it's duel moulding and arm prints, so maybe star wars will finally get the same treatment. Because of other themes have swapped to this plastic, given that they get the due moulding and whatnot, LSW can be on that path.

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here

So apparently the LSW sets now use the cheaper Chinese plastic used in the CMF line for the mini figures in the main sets now. Is this a confirmed thing and if so are the other themes doing the same with their mini figures?

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

So is it a thing now that all LSW mini figures are made with the cheaper Chinese plastic used in the CMF line? Apparently it is happening with the Solo sets and all future sets, is this the same case with all the other lego themes?

Unfortunately no, as i don't have any programs for that, nor am i keeping track of how i build. Best i can say is to follow the pictures posted...

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

Frame is mostly done now. One of the hardest parts is over. Next step is to add further reinforcements to the structure, such as the underside tractor beam/shield well which will act as the rear support when placed on the stand. Plenty of space for me to fill in at the rear, where engine details will be added. The depth of the panels is good as well, the vessel is shaping up nicely now.

HELP NEEDED: Star Destroyer frame build

Thanks for the advice, i will deftly consider some of those framing methods. As for nose drooping, I'm not too concerned about it happening, ad the nose will be fairly light, with most of the support focused around the centre and rear of the ship. I suppose in your model that the dense nose definitely needed to be adressed. Current frame progress. It is going well, i have the build very sturdy and stop, with the frames in the locations i want. No 'illegal' builds present, which is good, and i am happy with the angle the panels rest on at the moment. Building is back on track! Thanks again everyone for taking the time to help!
  14. Hey everyone So i am building a Imperial Star Destroyer, which is being documented in another topic, but i have encountered issues with the frame. I am having difficulties with its build, from aligning the panels at an angle that fits well to building a stable frame that doesn't but strain on joints due to forced connections. I have seen many great SD builds on here, and i was looking for advice and techniques to help me get this right. This is my first attempted layout. It looks fairly fine, though as i continued to make structural reinforcements and increase its length, problems arose. Also, this angle seem a bit 'shallow', and probably should be raised slightly more. Here is the frame currently. I need the middle beam, in order to help with the stand that will come out of the destroyer's hanger. There is the issue of the centre beam pushing against the cross supports, creating tension that may damage the pieces. Any help would be great, as this is an important part of the build and i can't progress until i find a stable design. Thanks!

HELP NEEDED: Star Destroyer frame build

Thanks for the help, though i assume if you ran into similar problems they may spring up for me too. Thanks for the advice, its quite mathematical, which i have started implementing. I have the FO star destroyer, which has a similar frame to 75055, but more importantly has a very clear 'A' connection with middle beams present in the build. I have started from there and did some calculations of the pattern of the build: The build starts at the nose with a 4 stud wide centre with 2 stud angle. the build is parted by 20 studs until the next frame, which has the middle increased by 6 studs and the angles doubled to 4 studs. The back of the ship has a centre of 16 with angles of 8. following this pattern, the next is a 24 stud long centre with 16 stud long angle. Now I'm not too sure how stable this 24-16 combo will be, if adjustments will need to be made, but if the first 3 are stable, it should be good from there. https://www.flickr.com/photos/154087455@N04/27203757597/in/dateposted-public/ Concerning how deep the panels will be, that will probably come down to more trial and error, and some strategic placement. What connectors i use also depends. Thanks for all the help!

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

Building and testing the frame has started. I have what seems to be a fairly good start, the angle of the top and bottom panels seems fairly good, though that is up for debate if it seems too flat. The main issue at the moment is frame building, mainly the middle beam for surer, that is difficult to line up with the bridging beams. I need to find the right stop so the pieces aren't forced into any 'unnatural' position that strains them.

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

The top and bottom panels are nearing completion, each with their own challenges. The top ones need to be fitted to a frame so i can get an idea of where the bridge will be played out, and the bottom panels need to accommodate the round tractor beam/ shield generator. Also added some details from the movies on the top and bottom.

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

Im going for a more stud-UCS look, like classic lego. Also, i don't have enough tiles to do most of it i think, he he. I do plan to have some ares tiled to make ridges more defined though. Now that have moved onto the fame i find myself in a predicament- Where on earth do i start? How do designers line it up? This is going to take quite a bit of trial and error.

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

The top and bottom panels have gotten much larger now, and seems to be proportionate with the bridge. This rough guide shows how big the bridge will be, the size being more appropriate now. The main hanger has been moved a bit more to the centre, and probably is larger then it should be, but i don't mind, as it will make the display stand's position more stable.

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

building the front top and bottom panels, and started on the frame. Not that the nose is more blunt then the sets Lego has released. Star destroyers don't seem to be that pointy, and the sharper tips tend to stick out too far. Also getting around to the hangers. I decided that the main hanger will be moved a bit more to the centre, so that the display stand can work better with it. Does anyone have any experience to share on hanger building?

    MOC/WIP Imperial Star Destroyer rebuild

Deconstruction of the panels done, frame will be next. build on the top panels has begun. Tons of greebles. looks like the surface of the Death Star. Turbo Lasers. I'm happy with these, but if people have alternatives i will be happy to see. Some of these stacks are getting unstable.

Thanks for the pic, yeah that was the driving force behind the re-build. The bridge is way too oversized, making the entire thing look stubby.

Man, i just love Tie Fighters, and your designs are spot on. In fact, you make some great Imperial stuff! Uncle Palpy would be proud.

    Updating Your Minifigs

Now if they update the helmet, they could go for a two piece rout, so that it hinges. I personally would want that, even though it sounds neat, it may compromise the molding and make them more expensive to produce.

Lego should have never done the white on black printing for the scout troopers. I agree that the way the Patrol Troopers and Tank drivers where done is way better.
