  1. 2 studs. Not half a stud. It has 2 studs of ground clearance.
  2. No it will not. It's a 4 long axle with a stopper. It cannot slide sideways. And you can't use that part because it will need to tilt sideways. That's why is used. Here is a more heavily reinforced version i'm using for a truck i'm building: Note: The LDD version will also work fine. Side compressed. It has no play on it. Only very smooth up and down movement. Even compressing only one side is extremely smooth.
  3. Here is my own revelation. Semi truck rear axle: Features: -Durable construction. -Very compact. Note: Flip the springs so the black part is facing up and the gray part facing down for better results.

  5. I might go with double wheels in one axle instead of two axles because it's easier to make just one axle instead of figure out how to implement two.. This is how you make very durable double wheels with arocs scale wheels. Now just figure out how to attach this axle to the 5x7 with diff inside. The distance between the frame and stud holes of the hub is 2 studs. But if i use portal hubs, i can mount the portal hub directly to the frame. Then how to attach it to the frame with springs and what about the motor.. Aaand everything needs to be durable.. That's why i prefer using studs to connect the wheels to the axles instead of axles. Axles tend to loosen or break half beam parts. Especially when a moc is starting to get considerably heavy.
  6. Has anybody done any studies how much having a locked or unlocked diff affects the turning circle? I'm thinking about 4x4 trial trucks.. Some go for 2-3 differentials and others specifically go for no differentials at all. If i have full lock on all diffs, hows the turning circle? How about locking only the rear and having the front with an open differential? Will the turning circle improve? If i have all open diffs everywhere, i should have the best turning circle? Will having a diff in the center added increase the turning circle even more? I'd love to see a test how much it improves. Basically having 3 diffs makes your 4x4 only one wheel drive when one wheel is lifted is what i've gathered. I have all my motors on my mocs so i can't test it myself right now. That's why i asked if anybody else has any info on it.

  10. Add a bumper with spikes on it. Few chains here and there. Perhaps some rocket javelins on the roof rack aaaand boom madmaxified.

I've seen so many people design something in LDD which simply doesn't work in real life. - True in some cases. But i think this would work since the axle that the portal hub slides on is secured from both ends firmly to the chassis, the thing should work in real life. I'm working on something else currently and all my parts are preoccupied. Also instead of using portal hubs, you can use normal hubs instead. Just keep in mind to use smaller tyres and if the moc is bigger, you'll need to have 6-10 wheels instead of going 4 wheels.
  12. They get attached to the frame by the axle holes in the beam to axle connector. The diff gets between the axles. Using CV joints combined with U joints so the axles can slide inwards as the portal hub moves up and down. This way the tyre can only go up and down and not swing outward and inward. Spring is put to the axle. I think the upper connector in the front portal hubs should be switched around to reduce sticking. Benefit is a moc that's completely level as one tyre is lifted up on top of a rock or something. It's all in theory. Don't have the parts and time to test it in real life. But this could be an idea that somebody could improve upon.

  14. Well to be honest i don't think it would be complex.. Just that long axle with end stop going trough a couple of beam holes and add springs on the axle.
  15. Well first it's a challenge if it can be built. Secondly it would create less vibrations in the vehicle due to every single wheel working independently. So basically a smoother ride. It would be significantly smoother because independent suspension works on a hinge or a lever. So when it goes up, it widens a little bit and then narrows when it goes up all the way due to the hinge and lever mechanism of it. Having it slide up and down on a pole would mean that the vehicle is completely stationary with no sideways forces when a tyre goes up and down. Think of the magical bose suspension..
  16. No, that's independent suspension. I meant that the portal hub goes vertically and no outwards movement. So naturally sliding up and down on an axle would be how to go with on this.
  17. Has anybody made an axle that has the differential fixed in the chassis of the moc and the portal hubs are connected to the chassis by springs and those go up and down? EDIT: It could be possible by having two long axles and the hub sliding up and down by those axles. Not sure about structural integrity how that would work..

  20. Agreed! Every mad max vehicle currently is very over the top. This bodywork is amazing but the monster truck chassis below kinda is too much. A lower chassis would fit better.
  21. Hi! I need help with the suspension geometry on a front axle. LDD here! And here's the pic: It's basically a copy of the larger one but reduced in width by 2 studs. The springs are giving me an issue. Can somebody help me how to reassemble the front end? Also the steering arms need to be attached so there is two 20 tooth gears, one for each arm. and a 12 tooth gear in the middle. That way i can attach a servo to the middle with another 20 tooth gear + 12 tooth gear reduction for steering. I will have fake engine on top of the suspension and the servo under it. All i need is a way to mount the front springs kind of like the wider one. Sharpest of you already figured out it's one of @Lipko's mocs.. The hot rod wrecker. I'm basically trying to make a bucket hot rod ford with the same front axle but only 2 studs shorter width wise. It should be theoretically possible but the springs are giving me a headache. EDIT: I think i also found a problem with the front two steering arms.. It won't let the axle go up and down and sideways tilt smoothly. It will tilt slightly to the side. So it needs a completely new pan hard rod system in the front.
  22. Revealed now! This is just a teaser of what's to come. Couldn't done it without the help of @efferman though. This is a heavily modified version of what he came up with but the same principle works here. Now i need to figure out how to put the springs behind that 5x7 frame. Will be tough but possible.
  23. I think i prefered the purple fenders more. EDIT: Now that i compared them side by side. I think the blue version is better.
