    Updating Your Minifigs

Hmm, I dunno, about the best I can think of right now is an Ep 1 Anakin Skywalker torso. As for the hair, either the brown beanie hat or the new dark grey stocking cap (featured in the Fun in the Park) though neither's really ideal. I'm sure someone else will come up with a better alternative. Here's one I've been pondering for a while - Imperial cadet? We've got their helmet from the first Phantom w/ Ezra, but what about the body? I don't like sticking it on an AT-DP pilot's body because it just makes the helmet look like a ridiculously oversized and ugly version of theirs rather than it representing a different type of trooper.

Yup, it's been posted a couple of times before so I certainly can't take credit for it, however Syndrome's arms are excellent for him:

It's custom, but this head from Firestar Toys would be literally perfect. It actually looks just like him. https://www.firestartoys.com/Shop/Minifigure-Parts/Minifigure-Custom-Design-Heads/41437-Custom-Minifigure-Heads-~-Curious-~-Male-~-Medium-Dark-Flesh.html
  4. Yeah I'd go with the Falcon too, in fact it's the only one we own out of those three. There were a fair few things i changed to improve the cockpit controls, main interior and external greebling, but it was a lot of fun tinkering with it and filling it with space junk :)

Absolutely awesome work, very well done! :D I dunno, about the closest I think you can get is the Nesquick bunny minifigure (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?M=gen003#T=S&O={"iconly":0}) on an A-Wing pilot's body. But personally speaking, I'd be quite happy for Buck O Hare there to be left in the past haha

Very nice, although for the first time ever, wouldn't the Rebels-stormtroopers actually be slightly more accurate helmet wise?

For the colour scheme I myself used (ie. dark blue with silver) it certainly would work stylistically. However if in keeping with the on-screen character, his suit didn't have many metallic features on the legs, so I'm personally happy with the legs I used (plus I've spent more than enough creating him haha) but it's certainly a cool alternative to the legs I used. If one went with a dark blue Saw and wanted more visually striking legs, it's certainly a fantastic idea, great thinking! Another alternative I was thinking about was the scuba Ironman body and legs with Faora's amor from set 76003, with Vader's neck piece and Mr T's head. The silver and bronze elements may clash, but Saw's all about being a bit bolted-together so may work when combined for real. However, as previously stated, I've spent enough on a Saw I'm personally happy with, but if anyone's feeling playful out there with money to burn, maybe these are some ideas to use too?

LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

Strangely although I'm bored with the amount of times the snow speeder gets reissued and is always nearly exactly the same, I can't wait for the sand speeder. Maybe it's the fact we're finally getting some new rebel pilot helmets in a low-price set along with a new orange-visored female pilot's face. Or the fact that I bought my son the AT-ST, AT-DP and AT-M6 for Christmas (he's asked Father Christmas for his own 'Walker Assault' from Battlefront) and now we'll have another speeder to take them down with. Or maybe it's because it's based on an unreleased 80s Kenner toy from The Epic Continues line that warms my heart. Apparently it's out at Target in America, any idea for everywhere (or anywhere) else? https://brickset.com/sets/75204-1/Sandspeeder

Ugh totally agree with you, I can't stand that stuff. The craftsmanship is very impressive, but as you said, it's not Lego. I only go with custom with the occasional face, helmet, screen-accurate weapon (just for one or two important characters) or accessory. Basically stuff that looks exactly like Lego, that anyone else would assume was the real deal - eg. Firestar Toys' excellent array of varied rebel pilot faces for example are just something Lego really need to do for real, I was sick of every pilot having the same 4 options of face. These are all still to be played with by my son, so can't be having lots of fragile components. I don't wish to be mean, but have you seen any of the 'custom' minifigures out there that people seem to have modified using papier mache, felt pens, paint, glued-on-paper, careless use of carving knives etc? Some of the poor little figs look like they'd be screaming in pain if they could.

After my last post which gave me that small brain wave, here's just a quick snap of putting the Vader collar on Saw (didn't even realise I had a spare lying around!) - what do you all think? Does it work? Is it an improvement? Is it stupid?
  13. Daddy_Stardust

    Updating Your Minifigs

Well I've always acknowledged the two custom elements on the figure, so hope I'm not under critique there! But that said, they are just two minor aesthetic elements. I could have used the head from Lego Dimensions' Mr T and just not used the belt, so a nearly identical purist Saw of my design is possible :) And I've just had a thought... I could put a Darth Vader mouth-piece from the latest helmet design to match Saw's collar? It could work... Saw Gerrera's most unique defining feature is his amor and the fact that the Lego actually has one that I'd say is a reasonable approximation of it is just bizarrely wonderful in itself, it's just a shame it's only available in such limited colour schemes (but considering it's rather unique, it's obviously to be expected). So it was the available colour-options on the armour that dictated my choice of colour for the rest of the figure, as such I thought navy was the closest option to the real-life teal (I think the only other options are dark grey, red and bright green). The bright green version of that armour that was available with a Lex Luthor figure just looks far too garish for my liking (https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=72326pb02&name=Minifig, Armor Space with Shoulder Protection with Purple Stripe Pattern&category=[Minifig, Body Wear]#T=C) and reminds me more of Buzz Lightyear. Still, my solution makes it about as accurate as Lego's own inaccurate dark red colour schemes for Sabine Wren so I can live with that haha. This looks like a potential alternative option for the armour, but is only available in grey and sadly lacks the round sockets on the chest that I felt the one I used more closely matched the real costume with: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=13986pb01&name=Minifig, Armor Space with Shoulder Protection and Spike on Right Shoulder with Silver Shoulder Pad and Chest Plate Pattern&category=[Minifig, Body Wear]#T=C&C=77

That is an excellent call, better than the one I tried it with, but overall felt my figure looked better without any. But thanks for the heads-up :)

Have you got a photo of yours? Curious to see how it differs from mine. I tried mine with hair and without, but preferred him bald like in the flashbacks (like you, hair colour was the big issue for me).

    Updating Your Minifigs

Blimey, wow, that's quite complicated, well I'm sure it's very correct haha, these below pictures of a Moff and an Admiral however are not - so what should a screen accurate Moff Jerjerrod figure have as a rank?
  17. Daddy_Stardust

    Updating Your Minifigs

To be fair, Return of the Jedi itself probably causes much of the confusion people have with imperial ranks, with both Piett and Jerjerrod wearing Captain's ranks. It also doesn't help that the phrase 'Commander' seems to be thrown around quite loosely in the dialogue.

I'd previously posted this, so forgive the re-post, but I went with the CMF American football player's legs since the kneepads are indeed accurate to the costume:

They certainly do: https://www.firestartoys.com/Pages/Delivery.html Just take yourself through to checkout and see what the drop-down menu charges you. You don't need to make a purchase until you get to the actual payment page which is after the delivery page, so can make your decision on whether or not their shipping costs are justifiable to you without having to be charged. If memory serves, I don't think you even need to make an account (though I'd recommend it if you do place an order, simply for customer service help if anything goes wrong - plus it's free to do so). Find the shipping too expensive? Just close the window :) I know Firestar aren't exactly cheap, they're no Bricklink, so I wouldn't typically buy many basic Lego parts from them, but for custom parts they're a great reliable source of both a variety of the most well-known suppliers and obviously their own excellent in-house designs too, coupled with (in my experience) very high quality customer service.

    Updating Your Minifigs

Nope in the UK, and as Fabiwalker kindly pointed out, direct link's above. I know they're not cheap, but really we only had 4 guys to account for (I figured anyone with insignia on their helmets didn't need it - like Death Star gunners) so it wasn't too much of an expenditure. Plus I usually justify any frivolous expenditure in "pints". I spent the same as I would buying two pints of beer at the pub (and I'd do that without a second thought), which I'd only have later weed down the drain, so spending £8 for these guys to look awesome forever I figured was worth it haha. Plastic is spot-on, it doesn't feel cheap or hollow like the kind you get on Chinese fake mini figures, if I didn't know they were custom I'd assume they were official. The custom rebel heads they've done are really good too, although unlike the arms and real Lego you can physically feel the prints, which have a slightly matte finish, as such they reflect the light differently, so under close investigation you can see a difference in terms of print-quality, but the prints themselves are still wonderful. I'll try and take pictures later. I also bought 3 sets of Rebel pilot arms too - granted we have around 18 orange pilots, but the aforementioned three are for original old school 90s torsos, which I had previously updated with snow speeder pilot legs, modern helmets and modern faces. There weren't enough pints to justify £36 in small plastic arms, so I figured rather than spend tons on making every Rebel pilot look super-awesome (and then the red, green and blue jumpsuit guys get left out), I'd just buy three sets for the really old school guys, to give them a modern all-round facelift so they blend in better with the pilots who at least have the great new modern body prints. If that makes sense...

Imperial crewmen updated with the custom Imperial arms from Firestar Toys, along with three legged Imperial astromechs. Third legs were achieved with part 6587 (3m cross-axle with knob), a simple coping saw to remove around half a centimetre and a black sharpie to just match the colour. It may be a cheat but considering Lego actually and quite unfairly show a three-legged R2-D2 minifigure illustrated on page 24 of the Official Lego Star Wars Annual 2017, I'd say it's only fair I took matters into my own hands if they're not prepared to offer the part necessary (simply a shorter 6587).

    The Lego Ninjago Movie (2017)

Saw it last week with my 7 year old son, we both absolutely loved it. I sometimes feel like I didn't watch the same movie as everyone else; everyone says this is a step-down for the series, yet we didn't care for Lego Batman much at all, aside from a few great lines ("kids can be cruel"), I thought it was often utterly mawkish, occasionally boring (the traffic lights talking to him in that weird dimension seemed to go on forever) and above-all, had barely any Lego-ness to it. I felt it played more to the world of Batman than Lego, and neither of us are Batman fans, we went into that one wanting a Lego movie first and foremost and instead felt we just got a tongue-in-cheek morality movie about Batman who just happens to be made of plastic. He was a fun supporting character in TLM, but I felt the character far too dull to headline a whole Lego movie himself. My boy said this was his favourite in the movie series and was WAY better than the show (which he's not a big fan of, so it wasn't playing to his fanhood), and whilst I still think the original Lego Movie is the best, this was a solid second-place for me. Great fun, gorgeous visuals, loved the real-life sections and the cat that reminded you thoroughly that they're toys that children adapt to the surroundings they're playing in (for anyone complaining about real world elements not being made of Lego - what, you never played with them in the garden as a kid? Hell two years ago the gardener at my parents place dug up one of my old Crusaders knights who must have been buried there since around 1988, looking not too dissimilar to the shabby Lloyd figure at the beginning of this movie!) and as a single dad myself, I found Lloyd's story particularly poignant (not that I'm absent, 4-armed or evil; I see my boy every day, I'm quite normal and we're very close, just the bonding side of it haha). If Lego Movie's a 9, this gets an 8 from me and Batman can have a 5. Here's hoping Ninjago's lower performance doesn't reduce the likelihood of more Lego movies in the future, this was an excellent family film and look forward to what may come next. I'd personally love one starring Chase McCain! My only major complaint is the fact that in-movie Master Wu has printed arms that I eyed up as perfect for a Lego Star Wars minifigure I wish to update but after checking the collectable minifigures online once we got home, noticed that no such printing exists on the real figure of him. Ok, that's a very small complaint and it's the TLG's fault not the movie's, but it's annoying haha.

Wow they must have flown out! I secured one pair of the Imperial arms for the one and only black-uniformed Imperial crewman we have, but ordered 5 different pilot heads since I'm sick of most of our pilots having the same head. Anyway they've only just been released and were literally just posted on their newsletter yesterday afternoon, so I'm sure more will be on the way soon. Even better news, apparently they're going to be releasing even more arm styles. From the newsletter: "The Force is Strong Here...We have an awesome selection of new custom print Star Wars goodies released this week.Rebel Pilot HeadsA great selection of male and female heads with a mix of skin tones, should ensure there's a hero pilot in all of us!Star Wars PostersThese amazing posters (and one neon dancer sign) will liven up any Star Wars LEGO scene. Printed on 2x4 tiles with a generous helping of super high res digital printing, means these custom delights are a must for any Star Wars LEGO fan.Custom Designed ArmsWe will be adding a lot more of these arm designs due to the huge amount of requests we've received. We've started with Imperial Workers and Rebel Pilots and reduced the price for a pair right down to £1.95 GBP, though they can also be purchased individually. We're passionate about providing custom minifigure creators with all the parts they need - GO CREATE!" This is their advert, not my photo, but check out the excellent end-results:
