Can I finally program power functions?
Tcm0 replied to AI toothbrush's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
One note: the servo motor or IR receivers won't work since the adapter cable only connects to the motor power lines.- 4 replies

Why are lego rcx sets so cheap.
Tcm0 replied to AI toothbrush's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is: https://github.com/BobGenom/arduino_sketches/tree/master/RCX2_IR_Programmer1 I'm not sure how good software compatibility is and I didn't try it, but there is one. Also, there is an extra version for RCX 1.0 in the issues. -
Another piece that might interest you is the ramp from the hidden side train: https://www.bricklink.com/v2/catalog/catalogitem.page?P=53834&idColor=85#T=C&C=85 you can use it to "extend" the track to the floor - the hogwarts express is a magical train after all.

Control Powered Up hubs from Spike Prime
Tcm0 replied to Kalindor71's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Theoretically: yes, the hub has the ubluetooth library. But that's just a low level BLE library, using PUP hubs with it requries quite a bit of work. Someone posted a library to remote control the prime hub with the powered up remote, it uses the same protocol as the other pup hubs. -
Using Spike Prime acceleration data
Tcm0 replied to Skookumjim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
They are actually using the same "firmware" - it's just that both aren't always updated simultanously. Yeah, the scratch programming blocks differ but both can use the same python commands.- 17 replies

Using multiple Spike Prime/Robot Inventor Hubs
Tcm0 replied to Skookumjim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Yes and no. The hub uses some other kind of communication for hub <-> PC (a protocol that uses Bluetooth Classic). The protocol you linked (it uses Bluetooth low energy) is used by the smarthubs (control+, boost etc). However, the mindstorms/spike hub is capable of sending BLE (Bluetooth low energy) commands with the uBluetooth library I mentioned. But uBluetooth sends raw BLE commands, no Lego wireless commands. So you would have to write a library to send lego wireless commands via ubluetooth library. I think that someone here posted a library for the powered up remote but there is none for the other hubs so far.- 9 replies

Using multiple Spike Prime/Robot Inventor Hubs
Tcm0 replied to Skookumjim's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I think that lego will make an official option to connect two spike hubs at one point but as far as I know, it's only possible with the wired connection as of yet. There is the uBluetooth library but from what I've heared you can only use it to connect the hub to BLE devices like the smart hubs.- 9 replies

Gianluca made a few steps into direct hub to hub communication via UART in python. I think that he posted the source somewhere. Sadly he passed away last year. https://www.facebook.com/groups/SPIKEcommunity/permalink/1169318340113063- 9 replies

How do I "make a block" in Robot Inventor 51515?
Tcm0 replied to Roboteer's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There is a help category in the settings. -
some python for 51515
Tcm0 replied to bluatigro's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Why don't you just download the example projects to the hub and then upload them back to the computer with a tool like rshell? With the current mindstorms app version, all scratch programs are stored on the hub in plain python text. -
I'm pretty sure that we will see the dumb battery box this year again that was used in the canceled osprey set. But that's a technic battery box. The ability to download programs/routines to the hubs should be added to the PUP app this year. It's already possible with pybricks. Also, in theory the large technic hub from mindstorms/spike prime can control other pup hubs.

They have began to cut the parts of train motors a long time ago. Back then all of them included the "side panels". I think that they got removed sometime during PF. Current PF train motors only contain axles and wheels. According to bricklink the current PUP train motor contains the same.
-
Regarding the price: you can find the technic motors much cheaper on bricklink (below 20USD). Make sure to check both, the "part" and the "set" (that contains only the motor and is sold by lego)

Lego Move Hub won't start
Tcm0 replied to Wiedi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
You can get into firmware recovery mode by holding the green button for about 10 seconds. The LED Dwill start to flash. Then you should be able to reinstall the firmware. -
Did you use the remote or the app? Normally the other motors have full speed - break as their mode. Maybe the motor was detected incorrectly.

Mindstorms Distance Sensor details/limitations
Tcm0 replied to Steve Robbins's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
There are technical specifications for spike prime. It's basically the same as robot inventor (just for schools): https://education.lego.com/en-us/product-resources/spike-prime/downloads/technical-specifications -
Lego Move Hub won't start
Tcm0 replied to Wiedi's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Did you check the batteries? Did it perform an update before that happened? -
Actually sometimes bluebrixx is pretty shady, too. From time to time they sell "goods in kilos" which are just copies of lego sets stuffed together in a box without instructions. Also, they sold (and probably are still selling) sets made by mocers without their permission (they got the permission from some mocers). Not to mention the minifigures which they have a lawsuit with lego about.

Large Hub and Powered Up
Tcm0 replied to Lok24's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
I mean you can use BLE with the uBluetooth library so you can write your own BLE library. The hub as a (hidden) file system where you can store libraries. There simply isn't a specific one for Powered Up yet (but I think that there is one for the PUP remote somewhere in this forum). -
Large Hub and Powered Up
Tcm0 replied to Lok24's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Hi. The large hub is a powered up device because it has a powered up plug and can communicate with powered up devices. However, it's not "programmed" via BLE but via normal bluetooth. It's somewhere between the smartphone and the hub in the normal powered up hubs in that relation. The Large Technic Hub supports all sensors with a lower level library in python. It's available but not really documented. I'm working on a lib to use the sensors more conveniently and reading for wedo 2.0 sensors and the color & distance sensor works. Only writing doesn't work yet. The sensor values shouldn't be a problem because the powered up (and EV3 UART sensors which use the same protocol but another voltage) tell the hub which values they use. But yeah, maybe some apps don't support them directly (although there has been an update for the powered up app yesterday or so) The large hub has a BLE library that you can use to connect to other lego powered up devices but there is no library especially for powered up (yet???). I think that the BLE lib is called uBluetooth. There might also be the option to support more than one large technic hubs together in the future but we'll see. -
Keybrick One / Rechargeable battery pack for Powered Up
Tcm0 replied to keybrickone's topic in LEGO Train Tech
I didn't want to complain about anything, just a funny note. It's christmas time so all carriers are at their limits. Maybe it's also about how many rechargeable batteries can be carried by one truck (but I don't know if you declared them as such. They had no sticker like shipments from amazon sometimes have). -
Keybrick One / Rechargeable battery pack for Powered Up

Mine arrived today (for whatever reason the delivery from southern germany to northern germany takes longer than the delivery to midwest US). I suppose that all have a sticker saying "1 of 40"? -
Coder Shah's take on 31313 vs 51515
Tcm0 replied to Coder Shah's topic in LEGO Technic, Mindstorms, Model Team and Scale Modeling
Actually older PF tend to break at the plug. Then lego put a small plastic knob at the connector piece so it only affects old PF parts from 2010 and earlier or something. I think that onbrick programming has a purpose. You can use it if you want to quickly test something without turning the computer on, loading the software etc. The major downside is that you can't see it properly. -
That catalog is kinda weird, Mindstorms is missing as well.
