  1. Here's my latest render. It is an improvement. But the reflections still appear somewhat frosty, specially the clear pieces.

    Pitch your dream Lego game!

I would have to say that my dream game(tm) would be a old school party-based isometric role-playing video game, maybe based off Dungeons & Dragons or GURPS. I think an RPG like GURPS would be a good fit for LEGO because it is also very modular. Just about every possible story setting has a GURPS module made for it. I believe there is also an unofficial LEGO d20 ruleset somewhere on the Web, as well as the BrickWars system. I'm not a real fan of building models while you're inside the game, however, unless the parts have clearly designated uses/purposes/mass/physics/etc. This doesn't seem to be the case with LEGO Worlds, AFAIK. I believe RPG Maker is also a good fit for LEGO, but using it you can only make simpler games, as there is nothing like d20 or GURPS for it.

    Datsville RPG

I purchased RPG Maker MV recently, and may start this project again. I will have to relearn the tools and study some new scripts. There are some isometric scripts too, but I think it may be easier to stick with the current perspective.
  4. Nice thread! Too bad the recent SimCities are 3D or you could import those buildings as sprites. Even after 30 years, iso still looks nicer than most 3D.
  5. Getting the minifigs to bend at the knees and elbows like in most TLG shows/games is difficult. Have you had any luck with doing this?
  6. I am playing with this program again. Right now I am trying to convert a model, but the conversion seems to be stuck in the "preview model" phase. It is taking a long time. Also, not all configuration options are visible on the third tab of the program. The error is: ... ... ... Exception in thread "Thread-4" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no lwjgl in java. library.path at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at java.lang.Runtime.loadLibrary0(Unknown Source) at java.lang.System.loadLibrary(Unknown Source) at org.lwjgl.LWJGLUtil.loadLibrarySystem(LWJGLUtil.java:337) at org.lwjgl.Sys.<clinit>(Sys.java:29) at org.ldraw2sunflow.lwjgl.PreviewOpenGL.run(PreviewOpenGL.java:160) at org.ldraw2sunflow.ui.impl.RenderPanel.convertFile(RenderPanel.java:11 7) at org.ldraw2sunflow.ui.impl.RenderPanel.access$000(RenderPanel.java:61) at org.ldraw2sunflow.ui.impl.RenderPanel$1.run(RenderPanel.java:85) Has anyone come across this yet? [edit] I am now unable to open the converter any more. I get an error: Jan 31, 2018 3:27:49 PM java.util.prefs.WindowsPreferences <init> WARNING: Could not open/create prefs root node Software\JavaSoft\Prefs at root 0 x80000002. The program runs once, but then will not work a second or third time, and spawns the above error. Also, I tried again with "LDraw2Sunflow_d" and experienced the same problem. This is odd because it worked fine for me in 2015. [edit] When I delete "HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-2113055238-2099637611-63920502-1003\Software\JavaSoft\Prefs\org" using regedit, the program will start again, but the stored file and directory paths are missing again when I restart the program too. Here's what my registry looks like:
  7. Some questions: Is there an Blender importer that can read LDraw models? Does the importer make use of grouped instances? How is the performance when modeling in Blender? Is the framerate when editing comparable to LDCad? Would it be possible to create a library of parts as grouped instances? Thanks!
  8. Do you think Mecabricks could handle a model as big as Datsville? I haven't been able to achieve more than a few frames per second in LeoCAD, and worse in LDView. Thanks.

SNOT Roads - 45 degree angles

Apparently, there are TLG designed models that work within tolerances, where the connection might not be exact, but it's "close enough" for the parts to fit together. See the yellow 1x6 bars on page 32 here: http://lego.brickinstructions.com/lego_instructions/set/6199/Hydro_Crystallisation_Station_ I also started another thread here: https://bricks.stackexchange.com/questions/9652/connecting-out-of-system-roads

SNOT Roads - 45 degree angles

I've been looking at Mike Gallagher's SNOT roads, in particular this one because it joins two roads at a ~45 degree angle: http://gallaghersart.com/gallery/view/category/roads However, as you can see in the image I made below, it is not *exactly* 45 degrees. Has anyone come up with a working method of joining SNOT roads at regular angles? Thanks.
  11. Has anyone modeled residential neighborhood power lines and poles in LDraw (or IRL) yet? I've tried Googling, but mostly get hits for various Mindstorms stuff. What tool would I use to make the actual cables? Thanks.
  12. I am looking at this power line MOC: http://www.moc-pages.com/moc.php/8435 How does this model need to be adjusted where two lets of lines meet at a 90 degree angle? I don't know much about utilities.

SNOT Roads - 45 degree angles

Does anyone know of a ratio of studs (e.g. "four studs left and seven studs forward", or something) that would allow me to attach a 45 degree build to an "in system" build? Is that what this Wikipedia article is sort of about? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Integer_triangle "integer triangle" a.k.a. "Pythagorean triple" I'm not sure there are any for 45 degree angles. [edit] Are there any special parts which would allow me to make integer connections? [edit] Stack Exchange says the answer to the first question is "No". https://math.stackexchange.com/questions/2607147/is-there-an-pythagorean-triple-whose-angles-are-90-45-and-45-degrees
  14. It seems SunFlow itself is dead. The developers deleted their forum, and the last update on the homepage was in 2007.
  15. I have created a SNOT road model as in the attached image. Could someone confirm 100% that the cyan parts are actually the same size/height in real life as in LDraw? They are part "2555.dat" "Tile 1x1 with clip". If they're off by even a small amount, it will ruin my build. Thanks.
  16. It should be easy to instead switch to a hollow studded brick. But might that not leave a gap between the bottom and top bricks? Since I am trying to support the top brick with the bottom one.

SNOT Roads - 45 degree angles

I uploaded the LDraw model. I think you could import it into LDD by following these instructions: http://wiki.ldraw.org/index.php?title=LDraw_to_LDD_conversion
  18. It says, "This extra height causes the stud on the blue brick above to touch the side of the yellow one." I kind of NEED it to touch the sides. What I DON'T want is for it to alter the direction of or lift the yellow part.

    First intersection is done. http://www.mediafire.com/file/7co4p04pt1ru42s/ldr_intersection_left_01_20171231.zip
  20. How about this build? Does the "LEGO" logo on top of the bottom-right stud prevent this from working IRL? Thanks.

    Thanks, Lasse!
  22. Thanks, Sylvian! http://www.mediafire.com/file/7518lfbhvi9kkpp/ldr_snotroad_tripleblankcross_1_20171231.zip
  23. Sorry to hear they are removing a feature, as LDD seems more popular than LDraw. (I am an LDraw user.)
  24. I've been using this tool to create SNOT streets. You can read about them here: https://www.eurobricks.com/forum/index.php?/forums/topic/142653-snot-roads-45-degree-angles/&do=findComment&comment=2898489
