I miss baseplates the most. I also miss alternative models on the instructions. I have heard several reasons given as to why they're not on there, which all make sense - but it's a real shame. Those parts really get your mind going as to how else the parts can be used.

Sorry, my bad - I assumed the Community forums were non-Lego.

I can see that since I've voted, there are 19 people who aren't affiliated with a guild - but none of them seem to have replied; so I will: I'm not in a guild and I'll be totally honest - I had no idea this was going on (sometimes I'm here all day long, other times I don't log on for a couple of weeks). I was browsing the new topics and saw a flurry of brilliant builds in the Historic forum. After I'd read a few of the topics, it became obvious that they were all part of a bigger theme and my interest was piqued. I saw that the issue of attempting this elsewhere in the forums was raised in the Pirate forum and I think it's a fantastic idea which gives structure to the forums, makes people feel part of a community and you can see how everyone else tackles the same ideas from a different angle. I'll say this to be honest, because I realise an awful lot of work has gone into the background of the guilds but from a non-active member, so much of it goes flying over my head. I'm a huge reader, but I don't read fantasy partly because I'm put off by the complicated names - and understandably, the guilds draw from that...so I find myself totally lost when trying to work out what the relevance of certain things are - it's a bit difficult for an outsider who isn't involved in the guilds (and doesn't really understand / want to know about the basics of fantasy, e.g. the difference between elves and dwarfs) to keep up. I absolutely love the idea of having a map with plots marked out and then each person in the guild builds something for the plot. I love the free builds that have come out of the guilds and the way that everyone has a set criteria - e.g. Avalonia has a 'lush, earthly feel', so all of the builds for Avalonia could conceivably come from the same region. Some of the larger builds have been absolutely astonishing in their quality; I'm amazed at how quickly some of the builders get them up and I feel that I've learnt an awful lot just by looking at the pictures. Similarly, you can see that less experienced builders have been brought on by working alongside other builders and learning their techniques. It might be nice, as someone else suggested, to have some challenges for less experienced builders so that they're not disheartened - sometimes it's easy to look at something fantastic and be disincentivised...not through anyone else's fault, but through thinking you'll never make it to that stage yourself / you won't have enough bricks to do something marvellous etc. Maybe occasionally splitting the guild into experience could result in some great contests between builders of certain levels. This whole concept has been incredible and huge congratulations to the people who came up with the concept, the guild leaders who have run it and all of the members who have taken part. I have loved every second of looking at your buildings and your interpretations - it's been highly enjoyable. I had a friend around my house the other week who isn't into Lego and whilst we were discussing my collection, I had to load up this site and show her what you'd been doing - we both thought it was fantastic...a real community achievement which pulls the posters on the site together and has some of the best creations I've ever seen. An incredible idea, wonderfully executed.

MOC: Holmes, Watson and Jack the Ripper!

I really like it; the blood trail is a nice idea. :) -
Very nice - I love the bird, and I really like your stonework on the floor. The blue works really well in the building, and the highlights of gold are nice too. Some more pictures from different angles would be helpful.

Thanks for sharing your method.

It's an excellent structure, and I love the way you've made your decking. The pool looks brilliant too.
-
CamelBoy - that's a brilliant haul. I'm trying to add up whether it makes more sense to buy via the online PAB or get a train ticket to London!

Fantastic work, and definitely worth a click through to the bigger images. I really like your tree and the fence that you've built, and the wall of the stables is great...and the flooring works really well too.
-
Brilliant work. I love the stonework on the walls, and the covered walk is excellent.
-
Really excellent work. How did you come up with the mosaic - was it off a source picture, or trial and error until he looked like Homer? The orange and grey shading really adds another dimension.

Awesome work; the ceiling and the pillars are brilliantly done.

My jaw actually dropped when I opened this topic - gorgeous work, so detailed and brilliantly executed.

MOC: 1940s Trams in Stureplan (Stockholm, Sweden)

This is absolutely wonderful work. -
Thanks for doing this - I went along to Liverpool over the weekend and knowing what was on the wall helped me to plan my cup. I do wish they'd get some different parts in though...I am salivating at seeing the reddish brown tiles elsewhere in the UK. I think if I saw 1x4 (or blue/black/green 2x2) flat tiles appear in Liverpool, I'd end up filling about 4 big cups; it's the one part of my collection that's really lacking.

This is an incredible building; the detailing on the building is fantastic, the brickwork is superb, the doors, the trees and the landscaping are all awesome... I'm not so fond of the cage (because I saw a film as a child that rather spooked me) but for the right reasons; it absolutely works in this piece and adds another dimension. Just fantastic. This is the sort of build that I show to my friends and say, SEE, this is why I love Lego - look what you can do!
-
Brilliant work - the predominantly white and grey façade is excellent...a wonderful model.

This is wonderful - I love the masonry, the grave and the trees.

I wouldn't save them up past a certain amount, because you can never be sure what might happen to a company (or, indeed, in your own life). There is something very satisfying about knowing that you have £30 or something in the bank, ready for when you need a discount though! I prefer to save them a little bit, and get a chunk of money off something, as opposed to taking £5 off here or there. If you've got a block stored up, it's easier to buy a big set on impulse when there's an offer - e.g. I bought Imperial Flagship with 10% off + some VIP rewards, and that made the price too good to miss...it can be helpful to get you to buy things you think you probably can't afford! (I'm not sure helpful is the right word! )

I've been thinking about this a lot the last few days. I know that I might be asking the impossible here but: - Does anyone know of the demographics of the Lego groups in their local library? (Not strict breakdowns - just, are there more boys than girls, or more girls than boys, or equal numbers?) - Does anyone know the impact of the Lego Clubs on their local library? Does it have a positive effect on people (especially boys) taking books out, or foster an interest in reading / the library? - If you're not involved with libraries yourself, would you take your child along to such a session?

Big medieval landscape: BIG UPDATE on page 26

That's wonderful. A look at some of the steps would be excellent too! -
I didn't realise this was such an old bump, but I think it's worth commenting on the techniques used to make the water from the hose, the water hitting the window area and the smoke...wonderful ideas and beautifully executed.

This is amazing - my jaw actually dropped open when I opened the topic! The building itself is wonderful, I love the arches over the windows and the colours of the bricks used - and the interior is excellent. I wasn't expecting an interior, as the exterior was so good by itself, but the interior detail is incredible too. I love the guy with the top hat overseeing it all!
