LEGO Sci-Fi universal WIP feedback thread. Do you have a Work In Progress (WIP) build that isn't working ? Do you have a problem that you can't just figure out how to get the look that you want? Did you create something but not sure how to use it? Do you want to help out a fellow builders? Then this this thread is for you! During the great EB oppsies of 2012, one of the discussions had off forums was the creation for a universal WIP thread that everyone could post what they were working on, this helps clean up the forums a bit, as well as provide a proper and centralized location where people could get some help on what they were working on. So EVERYONE post away! Throw in things you're working on and our esteemed Sci-Fi members will chime in and help you the best we can. I'll start! This was an attempt at a micro-ship / drone.... WIP micro ship drone thingy by Si-MOCs, on Flickr I've had this thing sitting on my desk for awhile, it had promise, but I just couldn't really get it to a point where I liked it. The idea was almost a bio-ship that felt a bit like armadillo armouring, with some asymmetrical striping. But it's kinda just a blob... Anyone got any ideas? or just scrap it? ...

Deep in the depths there is said to be door that leads to the Tree of Mystery ... The Gateway by Roanoke Handybuck, on Flickr Deep in Avalonia, there is said to be a gate, which leads to some tree of mystery. Rook, cleverly disguised as an Avalonia, goes deep into the mountains in search of the magic.... -- This was a fun surprise Collab between Roanoke and I for Summer Joust/CDC!

... We found him lost in the Siccus Badlands, disoriented and dehydrated... But even after he recovered he couldn't remember his own name, let alone how he even got there. He was good with his hands, but it was his mind that surprised us. We had to explain the rules, but he was a chess prodigy, and won his second game. I still remember how excited he got after his Rook moved in for Checkmate. So... we thought "Rook" would be a good enough name for him. And Rook took his new name to heart! Bless him, he decided to build a Rook shaped watch tower on the edge of the Siccus Badlands, a Flagg for other lost souls and travelers to find help if they too were lost. Even all this time we still play chess once in a while, and he still beats me every time. I even tried to be sneaky and use a move I never taught him! When he was, again, getting close to the kill, I swapped the King and the Rook. I told him I 'forgot' to teach him this special rule, where if the two pieces haven't moved and there's nothing in between the King and the Rook switch places. He thought this through, almost an odd moment of clarity in my friend's usual fogginess... "So the King is replaced with a Rook" he asked. Yup... It's called "Castling" --- I really don't know what's crazier - that' it's been 10 years since the start of Guilds of Historica on Eurobricks... or that some crazy people though it was a good idea to let a Spacer help shape the most incredible LEGO world I've ever seen.... Dextrus Flagg might have had a short reign, but he still lives on in my heart... Cheers on the anniversary, and my humblest gratitude for the builders that have kept GoH going all these years... Y'all are so incredibly talented and awesome.

Thanks so much! I kinda bounced back and forth on how to do desert, and landed on trying to keep it very subtle but meant some weird layering techniques lol. The tower is super simple - it's just 1x2 round plates with brackets - part intensive, but not overly complex. haha Dextus was my original character and leader of Kaliphin but was lost in a portal years ago.... Thanks so much - it was definitely fun trying out how to build castle, it's usually not my thin hehe. And the little bits were probably a lot harder for me than it should. Thanks for the comments :) hehe yes, the whole point was to tie it into the whole chess thing, it was certainly a great chance to jump back into GoH, oh how I missed the fun aspects. Thanks so much - it took a few tries to get the sand to get that subtle dunes... the tower... less ... so Thank you! I spent way too long thinking about the story, the build, and tying it into the lore lol. I'm glad someone appreciated the uber elaborate pun. Thanks so much

I'm sure it's been done before, but that shield in the base makes me so happy :) Great build, love the textures in the tower, but it's really the lovely foliage that wins it for me.... and the well! that's fantastic attention to detail, down to the beads of sweat hehe.

Thanks so much! I've had the idea for awhile to build non boring visually, yet practically 'boring' desert landscape. Rook is good with his hands in a pinch, he'll just need the right pinch to set off to help! Thanks! The tower took a few iterations and far too much looking at chess pieces Ironically the tower was the fastest part of the build, the sand took a few tries to get it 'right' and as cohesive as you mentioned - even though I had the concept pretty early. Thank you sir! As any good RPG, I think the story will follow a bit on what the world will happen, so hopefully Rook will get to jump in... Also with Summer Joust starting ... maybe you'll see more Rook earlier than expected! WHAT? No, This is Rook, the mysterious stranger that was some house dumped in the desert, we know not the old King of Kaliphin.

Hi everyone! It's been awhile, and figured I'd share my #SHIPtember 2020 build with everyone TriPerron - Nomad Class Explorer The Nomad Class SHIPs are the backbone of the Explorer fleet - Each SHIP can be docked to two others for the long term interstellar travel. Once at the destination the SHIP can split to explore various planets or two can continue onto their next destination. --- So ends my most ambitious SHIPtember efforts ... Rule 1 of Government Spending: why have one, when you can have three, at triple the cost? I based this build on the wonderful art form Colie Wertz's Nomad Cluster SHIP www.artstation.com/artwork/mmov which is a tri-SHIP combo. The Nomad Class ships have 8 modular hangars which can be configured for fast launch Cobra Fighters. The attachable cargo bay can also be configured for additional Cobra Fighters or TRex support craft or mission specific requirements. The Nomad Class ships also carry two Patrol Boats. One within the main hangar, and another docked outside the main hangar. The Patrol Boat provides additional flexibility for long range away missions from the main Nomad SHIP, or providing medium sized landing craft where the TRexs are insufficient. First review... here goes: So I was able to fulfill one of my life long dream and go on the Lego Inside Tour in Billund. I would in a heart beat recommend this to any LEGO fan. For those that can't afford to go, there's a nice little documentary that National Geographic made that does show a lot of stuff that I saw: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WCPGlM9TJyo&feature=related Every year the Lego Insider Tour has run, the participants have received an exclusive set. In the past they have been cars - some even designed by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen (current owner, and grandson of Ole Kirk Christiansen) - houses, and for the 2011 year, LEGO has created highly appropriate (and amusing) set to go along with the Inside Tour: LEGO model of the LEGO moulding Machines that made the LEGO bricks that made this LEGO set :) There are two moulding machines, the smaller is the original hand crank machine that dates back to 1949. The second larger moulding machine is an example of the current ones that are being used today to create the bricks we love. Info: Set: #4000001 Moulding Machines Pieces: 795 Price: Free with Inside Tour Minifigs: None. New Pieces: None, custom Sticker sheet. Packaging: The first thing I noticed when I received it was how HEAVY it was - at over 800 pieces (including spare parts), it's probably the most densely packed set I've ever seen. The front of the box shows the assembled set (I did find it amusing that even Lego Designers suck at applying stickers). And the top shows pictures of the actual machines: The back provides some nice information on the Mould Machines, as well a group pictures of the Lego Insider Group #14 (dedacted for privacy) as well as the KKK himself playing with it :) I actually debated a good 3 weeks before I decided opening this set. Originally I had grand illusions that I would keep it Mint In Box forever. But I realized I would never sell it, so what's the point of keeping it sealed? I'd rather enjoy it and share it with the community. When I finally opened it, I was surprised at what I saw. First it was a slip box - which wasn't standard LEGO packaging - but it makes sense as it's a super small run (68 only), secondly instead of the standard polybags I encountered a series of LEGO ziplock bags: Anyone who has had to order missing parts would be familiar with these bags, they are the bags that are used by customer service to fulfill missing part orders (which we saw on the tour). I suspect that these sets were litteraly assembled by customer service. It also explains why the set was so densly packed - as there were no air pockets in these bags. Along with the bricks were two instructions and a little sticker set. The Instructions are pretty nice, but not the same quality as the mass produced ones - both in paper quality and instructional quality. There was a odd disclaimer proclaiming the instructions were generated through proprietary means - which could mean that the instructions were auto-generated - probably something similar to the DesignByMe instuctions (though I've never actually done a DesignByMe, so I'm not sure). The Build: Timelapse of build The build was pretty quick, and had some nice wrinkles and some advanced techniques, while it's officially 10+ (according to the box) interms of standard LEGO sets, the build rates slightly higher, as there is some snot work and some nice greebling (though i'm sure it's actually on the real thing, not just to make it look cool). What really stuck out for me during the build was the attention to detail - even for parts that are hard to see. For instance on the larger Moulder Machine - the mould has some nice work - simple cheese wedges - but much better than say simply tiling it. I was also impressed at the accuracy of it, when I saw the box art, it's instantly recognizable as THE moulding machine - that we had seen just a day before. Both models are fantastic. Of the other Inside Tour sets, it's probably either best or second best (Ole Kirk's house the other notable set). Conclusion They're not as swooshy as some of the other stuff Lego has produced (in general and for the Tour). While there is some playability very nicely built into the set- it's really not something I see many kids playing with for extended periods of time. Set in action: It feels like something I would put on my office desk (if it wasn't secured in my bullet proof glass display case). It's definitely feels like an AFOL set - which course makes sense, as it was designed by an AFOL LEGO designer (see the smiley on the front for signature!). Ultimately, is this set worth the admission price? - absolutely not. I would never pay that much for this. But the Tour isn't about getting this set, the tour is about seeing LEGO and how things are made, how it's done, and meeting the people that "have the best job in the world". After much discussion at the Kaliphlin Grand Table, we have decided upon the City Guard's official uniform. And to celebrate, Drextrus Flagg has commissioned the construction of a tailor shop for Yoikbreg the tailor! He shall provide our army uniforms for the Petraea City Guard. He was a master tailor until ... he was turned. Now he continues his trade for that is what he knows. He's not the most talkative tailor, but he excels at mindless tasks and works throughout the night. Several of our City Guard were nice enough to model their new uniforms for Dextrus.

Yes you should come, lots of fun to be had, plus a huge minifig crowd that will just love your Batman builds. And to further Lynchir, the curtains kinda suck when looking for people - BW you can easily spot anyone assuming not a large crowd - but it does allow you to hide during public and have fun, like the most epic game of Spoons ever:

Well, the Empire doesn't consider a small one-man fighter to be any threat, or they'd have a tighter defense. An analysis of the plans provided by Princess Leia has demonstrated a weakness in the battle station. But the approach will not be easy. You are required to maneuver straight down this trench and skim the surface to this point. The target area is only two meters wide. It's a small thermal exhaust port, right below the main port. The shaft leads directly to the reactor system. A precise hit will start a chain reaction which should destroy the station. Only a precise hit will set off a chain reaction. The shaft is ray-shielded, so you'll have to use proton torpedoes. This was built for Star Wars Day - Toronto - and will be at Brick World and Brickfete - it also serves as ToroLUG's giant name plate The Awesome Fighters provided by Ricecracker And of course the trench swoosh video: (forgive the horrible Star Wars music - I didn't want to get sued but George)

Calvin and Hobbes has a super special place in my heart, and a few months before BrickCon, LEGOJunkie asked me: "So... you have a lot of orange right?" What ensued was a wonderful little collab, and resulted in possibly my favorite build I've ever done. Evan did Calvin, I did Hobbes.
