Indiana Jones 2023 - Rumors & Discussion
BrickBob Studpants replied to Pulp Detective's topic in LEGO Licensed
I don’t usually complain about stickers, but given how cheap this wave must’ve been to produce with only one new part plus the resurrected idol mould, I think they should at least have printed all the parts in 77015 Wonder which other theme siphoned all the budget here. It definitely wasn’t Marvel, that‘s for sure -

It‘s been so long, I don‘t even remember the last time we got a polybag figure with new prints 2018 or 2019 perhaps? -

Just wishful thinking, I‘m afraid. I would also prefer Jabba‘s Palace over yet another hyper-boring throne room, but there‘s no real reason to doubt the rumour -

Doesn‘t that go a bit far? Sure, it sucks the quotes aren‘t printed, but the 2x3 and 2x2 tiles at least are The set is still worth the price I think -

Don‘t give them any ideas We probably should consider ourselves lucky that 77015 is a diorama rather than a buildable whip or golden idol. At least they didn‘t mess up the three sets we‘re getting (for the most part) -

Pretty much 99.999%. No listings, no set numbers, and TLG isn‘t on the list of license partners. Given all that, it doesn‘t make sense to expect any sets -

Which sucks. With the cancellation of 77014, we at least got a hollow explanation (that didn‘t actually explain anything, but that‘s beside the point). Here, they don‘t owe us any such explanation. There just aren‘t any sets, simple as that. Same thing happened with FB:SoD, except nobody cared enough to make a fuss about it Sucks how this has been handled, but we need to move on. Let’s enjoy the April sets and then let it rest in peace. Or pieces, whatever -

Well, that‘s why I‘m saying it‘s still stupid, just less stupid than cancelling them Maybe the classic sets outsold the KotCS sets in 2008/09 by such a margin they decided it was worth redesigning three of them for a quick buck, but sets based on DoD were deemed too risky? But yeah, random untested unknown licenses like Gabby‘s Dollhouse, those are completely risk-free (I know I know, it‘s not a fair comparison. I just wanna throw some shade at them) -

Exactly. Maybe they just came to the conclusion that sets based on those two movies would make the most financial sense. Given how similar these sets are to their 2008/09 counterparts with the exception of the biplane being replaced with a car and the three additional minifigs, I think they‘re just cashing in on nostalgia, not only for the movies, but the older sets too. The theme thus feels more like a polished rerelease than a true revival. -

Sadly, yes. I had completely forgotten what exactly Promobricks had stated back in July until @THELEGOBATMAN pointed it out. I think most of us simply took their speculation as fact So it‘s pretty likely that DoD sets were never even planned to begin with. Less stupid than cancelling them, but stupid nonetheless. The Mikkelsen curse is real. The irony of the most famous Danish actor not getting immortalised as a toy by the most famous Danish company despite starring in so many franchises they have made products for is just delicious I feel bad for him as he seems the type of person who would be proud of getting a minifig based on one of their characters -

TLG is not listed as a licensee for the official DoD product range. Promobricks made up the set numbers, as @THELEGOBATMAN pointed out. They heard that 8 sets were coming and just filled in the gaps. For all we know, those four could be BrickHeadz There are no listings anywhere. They can‘t just conjure up multiple sets all of a sudden. Not even D2C sets are kept secret that well! And by 2024, it‘d be too late. No kid is gonna care about DoD anymore then, if they even care about it in the first place -

Avatar is a special case since the two waves were so close together and they were each supposed to tie in with a movie. After all, the first movie was rereleased just before the first wave came out. Also, there are no other sets coming this year and it doesn’t look like there will be more until Avatar 3 comes out LOTR is not really a theme, it’s just part of Icons now. We already know at least one other D2C set is planned. Overwatch was intended to be brought back after a significant gap and ended up being cancelled anyway That’s like calling the 2018 JW sets a follow-up wave to the 2015 sets. That was more of a (failed) reboot, and like Avatar, tied to a new release. Yeah, not the best examples. Follow-up waves in the sense of „new wave(s) in the year(s) after a movie comes out“ don‘t exist anymore outside of evergreen themes. And even if they still did, those waves tend to get smaller, not larger. So even if there were more sets in 2024, which is highly unlikely to begin with, why should there be more than 3 sets? Why would they release 3 sets in a year with a new movie and more in a year without any support like that? -

No, I give up. They’ve stopped doing follow-up sets for non-evergreen themes a looooooooong time ago, so there’s absolutely no chance for more sets in 2024. As far as I’m concerned, this “revival” is getting its first and final sets in two weeks -

Not design-wise, but definitely budget-wise. This reeks of cut corners: Only one new part, repurposing of ancient unfitting parts, and then those stickered quotes. If SW and JP could get printed ones, why not Indy too? The other two sets are stickerfests too. The only aspects that got a decent budget it seems were the minifig prints and those printed 2x3 and 2x2 tiles in 77015. Yeah, that goes on me. But that’s also why I need to know why all of those sets were cancelled: so we know what to look out for, so we don’t get excited again for sets that may end up being shoved headfirst into a woodchipper -

True. I just assumed the final Mando set was going to be revealed next Tuesday, but if it isn't, then of course it could be based on another episode -

Can you even call a single minimum-effort three-set wave a revival? But that’s the entire point of this forum. If we can’t even trust leaked pictures anymore, everything we discuss here becomes completely pointless What’s the point of getting excited for, say, that NWH set over in the Marvel threat or the new Batcave if they could easily cancel them without any further notice? -

You think we're acting like Veruca Salt? Go over to the HP or SW threads and tell them more than half of the yearly output has been inexplicably cancelled, and see their reactions. I think we are allowed to be disappointed when we were promised 8 sets 8 months ago, and after all this waiting this is all we're getting -

As great as these three sets are, they’re just not enough to balance out the huge disappointment. I was expecting a Potter-style comeback, and instead all we get is this tiny wave Yeah, that partially goes on me for having such high expectations, but still. We were promised 8 sets, and now we’re standing here with less than half of that. All the while, random licenses like that Gabby dollhouse baby show get four sets that will 100% end up at the bottom of bargain bins. And of course, they will most likely come with an insulting number of unique new pieces -

So, the wording was just pure corporate BS after all. Well okay, after reading that blog post, my hopes have been completely and 100% dashed. Serves me right for getting my hopes up, against my better judgment Now I feel dumb. So yeah, I retract anything positive I recently said in this thread. I’m switching sides again, I’m a triple agent!! Not trying to be hyperbolic, but despite how good the three sets are, this is by far the absolute worst revival of any theme ever. I can’t think of any other license that has ever been treated as poorly as this. Even one-off random stuff like Trolls, Minions, Angry Birds, Prince of Persia etc has been treated way better with a lot more sets, minifigs, and new parts! For instance, the only new piece we have here is Indy’s hat. Not even a new pith helmet for Belloq or a more accurate hat for Sr. Just cheap. I can’t believe I’ve been looking forward to this revival for so long and this is all we’re getting. My hype for the movie has effectively been killed too, because all I can think of now is how much they messed this up. Maybe it’s for the better. I heavily dislike a majority of timetravel stories anyway -

They mentioned The Rings of Power in the LOTR section on s@h even though they don’t even have the license for that show. Alluding to the newest instalment in a franchise they do have an active license for should thus be fair game
