Paris Opera House in Modular Style (64 wide)

Need more photos of the inside, especially of the stairs - they're amazing! Good tips on using Excel as well.
  2. Mine are on top of a row of small Ikea Billy bookcases. The only problem is they don't sit flush to the wall (massive skirting boards) so the kids can knock bits off and they fall down the back :-( After reading how many other people are using Ikea furniture to store and display their collections I think LEGO should work with Ikea to produce a range of storage solutions in classic LEGO colours - Expedit 5 x 4 shelves in classic red or blue anyone?

    Steven Asbury Fire Station MOC

This looks so good! It looks like the outside was made from a very small number of different bricks and in two main colours, but it's that simplicity that makes it work so well. A very nice change to the fancy over-greebled (if that's the right term!) buildings like the Parisian restaurant.
  4. Another top quality review The figures look very good and the new accessories and colours will be prefect for mocs. The only downside is the price increase, but taking into account the license costs and general increases in costs in production since the CMF line started it's still reasonable - as long as the non-licensed figures don't hold the same price when the normal CMF line resumes.

LEGO shouldn't make new parts for a year?

Another no from me. Moderate the production of new parts maybe, but I'm sure LEGO do this as a matter of course anyway. Having a strict 'no new parts' time might get the designers to do things a little differently but I'm sure we'd not see a drop in price or anything radical in set design.
  6. If this is you "tinkering" I'd love to see what you can do when you're serious! The house looks stunning - looking forward to more!

Lego Ghostbusters HQ - Custom MOC with Lights

Brilliant design! Happy to support it on Cuusoo.
  8. Thank you. The way it's secured will allow us to build bits onto the stairs side of the wall. Might even use it for the collectable minifigures!
  9. Thanks! No idea on the number of bricks - certainly more than I'd estimated by a long way!

    Modular Pub

Nice design in a small space. The arms holding glasses on the front are a brilliant touch.
  11. @Puffle Pal26 - It IS finished, don't make me do any more! @Sir_Basil_Ashton - Lots! I deliberately didn't count how many there are as then I'd have an idea of the cost! If I get bored one wet Sunday afternoon I'll count them then :-) To all - thank you for the kind comments!
  12. We finally put the last few bricks in to the LEGO stair wall! The edges have been smoothed a little by 1x2 normal and inverted slopes and cheese slopes but it's impossible to get a perfectly neat fit due to the angle of the woodwork. There are spots for other bricks or minifigs to be fitted to (extra decoration space for Halloween and Christmas!) and the windows help lighten the load and allow light to the stairs. Because most of the bricks are white it's actually made the hall a little brighter. For those concerned it's quickly going to become a pile of broken LEGO at the slightest knock - it is tied to the uprights in lots of places like this: It's been prodded, poked and kicked a few times as we've been building it and the kids have been hurtling up and down the stairs and so far there's been no movement or loss of bricks. There are no plans to do the same thing to the stairs side yet - we need to let the BrickLink stores fill up again before we can do that
  13. Had a good chance to add some more layers with the kids help yesterday. Several hundred more bricks arrived today. At this rate it will take until after Easter to finish!
  14. @splatman - nice idea but there isn't enough room for another brick width, it's only one brick wide. A mix of inverted slope bricks and upside down cheese bricks held in with technic half pins will make the bottom smoother, and the top of the wall will be finished with 1x2 slopes and cheese bricks. Unfortunately the angle on the banister doesn't quite match anything I can do in Lego but it will be close. If the available space was a little wider it would be much easier!
  15. Finally got the chance to add some more bricks this weekend, with a little help too. We're now about a third of the way up - I hope! And of course, I'm one brick short of finishing the third window Luckily just under a thousand more white bricks arrived today, so a quick clean and they'll be added too. Comments welcome!
  16. ^ Thank you all for the kind words! @Pizzareno - Inverted 1 x 2 slopes will fit some of the gaps and I'm going to see how cheese slopes held in with half technic pins look. I think I need to do that before adding too many more layers! @Deathleech - It is fixed to the wooden uprights with 1 x 6 and 1 x 4 bricks forming a box around the wood. I'll post photos to show it, it's easier then explaining it with words. It will take a hard knock from behind without breaking (I hit it with the vacuum cleaner by accident!) so hopefully it will be sturdy enough. If it breaks I'll just put it back together in a different pattern
  17. Nicely done, but I really wanted to be a rhino!

    Ajax's Mod's & Moc's

Love the zoo - it's awesome! The guy following the elephant with the shovel is a brilliant touch.

    Mystery Monorail

@Mark Bellis - I have looked at your work on Brickshelf since making my original comment back in August, and you certainly have jumped on it - very impressive! So far I've put together a simple loop and a crossover, and am working on the trains themselves now. Many thanks to Hidaka and you for the inspiration.

    Garden Railway

Emm - Glad to hear you've decided to give it a go. Make sure you take lots of pictures to record your progress, and so you can report on any discolouration or other problems with the track. Good luck!

    Is Lego only for kids?

I gave my dad one of the CMF Artists once (he paints as a hobby) and he was really impressed with the level of detail in the figure. The next time I went round he'd bought himself a couple of the Creator sets. He's 70 this year. Nobody is too old for LEGO, they're just to old to remember how to have fun.

The Simpsons 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Has anyone seen the World of Springfield playsets from 2000? They were sets depicting classic Simpsons scenes like the Simpsons living room and the Kwik-E-Mart and were simple back wall + one side wall sets with fairly detailed walls and furniture. I wouldn't be surprised if the LEGO sets are similar as it would maximize play space and keep the brick cost down - you don't need four walls and a roof on a playset after all. For example: http://figures.nohomers.net/WoS_Figures_Playsets_Assortment_A.html Now if they can get the sets to talk when you put minifigures on them like these sets did... :-)

    Garden Railway

Nice idea for setting the bed and only bringing out the track when you want it. I'm going to have to have another look at the garden tomorrow!

    New Pirates minifigure pack

Whatever it is, it's not just a collection of "look what we found at the back of the warehouse" pirates, it's new configurations, new packaging in the same style as other recent minifigure sets... The next set like this could all be soldiers to fight the pirates. Whatever it is, my kids were very happy to find a new pirates set that wasn't an over priced PotC set.
