    [MOC] The Castle of AAAAAAARGH

The leaf element hooks together nicely if you slip the skinny part of one between the thicker studs at the edges of another. I’ve heard the technique called weaving, too. @Full Plate is the builder who comes to mind first with this technique, and he has a nice tutorial (actually, many nice tutorials) on his website, Full Plate Builds.

    A Home Away From Home

Great to have you back in the guilds! This lovely hut explains where you have been. Not sure I'd choose to live right next to a Nocturnian swamp, but to each his own, I guess! I'll echo what a few others have said: the roof could use some more overhang, and the smooth rock by the swamp could use some more growth on it of some kind to break up the smoothness. You could also experiment with angling sections of rockwork on Mixel hinges, to break up the monotony and create more interesting terrain. I do love the swamp, though, and the alligator head is a nice touch; another reason I would not wish to live there, but still, a nice touch. I look forward to seeing Dan moving back to Avalonia soon!

    An unexpected discovery

Glad to see you back building! The snow looks nice, though all of the studs makes it look trampled by lots of feet, which might not be what you were going for. But I agree with the others that that is a nice looking curved wall of ruins!

    Rhalyf and the Sorcerer

Nice practical effects for the magic! I appreciate the effort that goes into lighting a build in a convincing way. And the almost Orthanc-ish surface with wizards dueling is classic and well done.

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

No, not on a tiny mobile screen, but I also choose to put up with ads on sites that put them there for a reason, namely that that is how they generate their revenue. Flickr is free, which means they have to make money somewhere else, and if I block the ads while using the site, and not paying for the ad-less version, it's like I'm stealing the revenue that makes my free service available. And it is only mildly annoying, as I said, so I put up with it. And @Zilmrud and @Full Plate, awesome job representing Avalonia and all of Historica in general! That's an awesome castle and dragon.

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Sure, we do that all the time. In the last challenge, everyone had to build in Varlyrio, even though most of us are not in that guild. I’ve built in Nocty, in Kali, in Mitgardia, and in Varlyrio, in addition to other lands that are not in the guilds at all, despite being a member of Avalonia. On the other hand, there are parts of Kaliphlin that are nearly identical to Avalonia in climate and culture. The whole thing is not all sand! If you have lots of green, there are parts of the realm you could build in (mostly the northwest, but probably the east coast on the far side of the mountains, too, where the weather moves from the ocean and dumps its moisture as it moves over the mountains, causing the desert on the other side) without any issues. You don’t need a king’s ransom of tan elements to be a Kali builder. You could even build grey castles in Kaliphlin if you wanted to! Though if you want to build in Avalonia, you can do that, too. We like visitors!

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

I’m a free user, and I find the ads slightly annoying, but not enough to shell out the cash. Maybe when I have more money I’ll upgrade, but for now I’m ok with the minor annoyance.

Book III - Avalonia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

@LordDan, welcome back! Great to see you around here again. @valon, welcome to the Guilds, and yes, have as many side characters in other guilds as you would like! We’re happy to see more Avalonians out there, even if they are just side characters!

    Nightwolves-Researching The Job

Nice to see a build from you! I really like the various accessories around the room. I think it would look better with a tiled floor, rather than all the studs (though that does require lots of tiles), as well as tiles on the shelves; the knives and such get lost in the studs, almost. Also, with regards to photography, the flash is NOT your friend for LEGO pics. The shadows are too stark and the light too bright. I’d recommend using ambient light (the best, in my opinion, is the light of the sun on a cloudy day, or else in the shade, both of which eliminate bright spots and harsh shadows in the build). I look forward to seeing more adventures, especially what required them to seek the help of their scholar! (Also, where did those prints/stickers on the wall come from? They look great!)

    [Freebuild] Out Through the Market

Much better with that picture at the top! And I don’t think you’ve been overdoing the motif; at least, I’m not tired of seeing it yet!

The Nightwolves, Monster Hunters for hire.

Great looking crew, and I’m glad to have them in Avalonia! I’m also always a fan of microscale building. Keep building!

    [Freebuild] Out Through the Market

But why did you hide the statue behind a spoiler!? That deserves top billing. I love the 1x1 tiles as an architectural element (it looks distinctively Mitgardian to me as a result). Keep up the good work!
  14. That’s a lot of tan! These all look so good together, one of the best GoH city layouts I have seen. And it’s always a plus when you can get some all-LEGO shots in, since the background is so developed. Great work!

    [MOC, freebuild] Oxenfurt forest, Avalonia

Nice landscaping! I think it might look a bit better, that is, more like a forest path, if there were a large tree in the middle, right about where the small dark red tree is, about half again as tall as the tallest current trees in the build. As it is, it looks more like a clearing than a forest. But the colors are great, and the mix of different sizes and shapes of tree is excellent. Good to see you back!

@de Gothia, glad to have you back! Can’t wait to see what you’ve cooked up for us.

    Avalonian Elven Stag Cavalry

Those are awesome! I’m impressed that you collected so many of them!

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

You could buy the parts for it on Bricklink. It looks like one of these (or these) with a black pauldron and a Brickforge or Brickarms or whatever sword. But one of these swords would work as well, I think.

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Good question, and the answer is that the way the term ‘post’ is used is slightly different for each. For every build, you should have a dedicated thread for it; i.e. you should create a new topic for it. That’s all builds in the Guilds, period, and really for all of Eurobricks, too. When you add things to AoM, you should put a link to your build’s topic into the AoM thread in a new post, so that Soccerkid6 can see it and know to update your status. In the Historican Settlements thread, however, I want every build from your settlement in a single post so that I can keep track of how your settlement is growing. What that means is that you should be putting links to each of your builds (which each have their own topics/threads) in a single collected post, since I don’t want to have to scroll through the whole HSS thread to see if you have a military build, for example. So put links to everything from Ketzertown (or whatever you might call it ) in one post. Does that make sense?

Book III - Mitgardia: Guild sign-up and Discussion

Totally free. You can create races, beings, creatures, whatever you like. Just don’t create the Most Powerful Creature Of All Time®️, or something of that sort. But otherwise, the only limit is your imagination.

    Historican Settlements - HSS

Yes, you should include that. It is part of you settlement’s infrastructure. It’s not like cities and towns generally have a quarry in the middle of them, or mines, or forests for logging, or even farm fields for that matter. But all those things are still part of the economy of the city or town.

    Historican Settlements - HSS

@Zilmrud, congratulations! I'm a bit late updating things, but Zamorah is now an official City of Historica, by decree of the Royal Cartographer's Guild. Everyone else, keep updating your posts as you build things. Or make a post (looking at you, @Grover)! Thanks for posting that list, by the way. I deleted the post to keep this tidy, but added the very helpful list to the first post of this thread.

    [Custom CMF] Ladies of Historica

Flying Monkeys from a LEGO Batman Movie set, I think.

    [Custom CMF] Ladies of Historica

Those are some awesome fig combinations! I love them all, but the fire dancer and clan centaur might be my favorites. So many elements I wish I had, especially the Chima torsos. Where is the fire spirit torso from? And clearly Solveig has never heard bagpipes played by a Mystic Isles mermaid. Those Mitgardian highlanders might toot their pipes, but not like a mystical mermaid; enchanting is hardly a descriptive enough term for it.
