The premiere of Rebels was fantastic and has me even more excited for the winter 2015 wave. The AT-DP is a first day purchase, if only to get a figure of the deliciously evil Agent Kallus. I'm still not sold on the speeder bikes, but I guess I'll have to buy that set for Sabine. I'll probably be more inclined to get the Inquisitor's TIE Advanced once it makes an appearance in the show.

The return of Bionicle caused me to rebuild a lot of the original sets this weekend. And with the sudden wave of nostalgia came new opinions on these sets: Firstly, I love the look of these new Toa. Sure, I wish Lewa's mask was a little more reminiscent of the original mask, but the axes make up for it. The focus on collecting masks is a welcome return to form; I feel that part of Bionicle's decline in quality over the years was due to the decline in yearly collectibles. Also, has Onua's final design been leaked yet? He was always my favorite Toa Mata, right next to Tahu.

True-the first half of season one was pretty slow and that's where most of the problems stemmed from. Just like you, I've liked the show all the way through. But I'd be remiss if I didn't recognize the faults that the show had before. All that being said, the show keeps getting better with every episode. I can't wait to see where the writers take us next with these characters!

So I watched Gotham last night and Agents of SHIELD right after. One was god awful and one was amazing... Agents of SHIELD was the amazing one. I've been following it through the ups and downs and I'm so glad I did. The opener was action packed, fun, well written, and had great character development. It fixed every single problem that season one had.

Personally, I thought Gotham was awful. This team has a long way to go in terms of writing. The characters were weak, the constant references were obnoxious, and the tone was all over the place. Let me elaborate: 1. "Holy references, Batman! Is everyone Gordon encounters going to be an important villain in the future?" Let's think about this for a moment: Penguin, Catwoman, The Riddler, Poison Ivy, and possibly the Joker were all seen in one episode. Not only that, but they're all connected to each other through Gordon. Isn't it really convenient that Poison Ivy's dad was framed for the Wayne murders? Did the writers just put that in so there could be a scene where a seven year old Pamela Ivy Ivy Pepper waters some plants? Probably. The show comes off as taking place in a huge city with the population of around twenty. 2. Subtlety is a Virtue Jeez. This show loves to hit you over the head-kind of like Jada Pinkett does to her henchmen! The show is so bogged down in cutesy exchanges like: "'Yeah, Penguin.' 'You know I don't like to be called that!'" and "My little Penguin..." We get it. Oswald will come to be known as the Penguin. I thought it was a pretty interesting move to have Oswald hurt and stranded by the end of the episode, but in the back of my mind, I was worried that he was only put in that situation as a set up for a waddling penguin joke. I should have trusted my instincts. Low and behold, the clip for the next episode starts with someone saying: "Did anyone ever tell you that you walk like a penguin?" I bet the writers think they're very clever. And then there's Catwoman: the show actually starts with her stealing a bottle of milk, and, in a clip for episode two, she tells a kid in juvy to "go for the eyes" and makes some cat claw motions. I GET IT. SHE'S CALLED CATWOMAN! Also, did she have to wear the costume so soon? Is it just me or does a leather-clad 14 year old Catwoman with hi-tech goggles look utterly ridiculous? 3. Gotham is just a sound stage Really. 90% of the sets are small, narrow, alleyways and it mostly takes place at night. It just screams sound stage. Some NON-CG wide shots would really help show how big the city actually is. 4. Unnecessary changes I know this is small, but did Pamela Ivy's name have to be changed to Ivy Pepper? Both cheesily foreshadow their future villainous personas. It seems like the writers just changed her name for the sake of shaking things up.

New York Comic Con is from October 9-12 this year. I don't think any sets were revealed last year at NYCC, though I could be wrong. You might be confusing it with New York Toy Fair, which is around February. All that being said, if LEGO does make some sort of press release at NYCC, I'm going to go ahead and estimate a 0% chance that the reveal is the winter wave of Star Wars.

So I was looking at the first post and I noticed that Agent Kallus is nowhere to be found in the lists of included minifigures. Surely he'll be included in the AT-DP... That would be a huge missed opportunity.

Ok, I guess I was wrong about the Wolverine change. I just never viewed him as a legacy hero so I assumed it was some weird gender alteration. It seems that I need to look up the facts before I post.
-
Well, it looks like Wolverine is following in the likes of Thor and Loki and becoming a woman. I get it. We need more women in comic books. But can't we just come up with new interesting characters who are women instead of changing the gender of other interesting characters? I'm more OK with Thor becoming a woman than Wolverine and Loki. Hell, Thor was a frog and a horse-faced alien at one point. There's context to the gender change. With Wolverine and Loki, it feels like a marketing gimmick to appease comic book fans who want more gender diversity. Again, I like gender diversity. I encourage gender diversity. But really, wouldn't it be even better if women got their own great characters instead of having to hitch a ride on the fame of male characters?

True---and getting another Stormtrooper is quite nice as well. Also, while I understand that these speeder bikes are based on the McQuarrie concept art and I can see the similarities in the Rebels speeder bikes and the LEGO set, I still think they look way too bulky and big. It wouldn't surprise me if it was just the angle on the box. I still hold that the box art for this wave (at the moment) is horrendous.
-
There's something off about that speeder bike set... They look so bulky. Also, is it just me or does the box art seem a bit wonky? Especially the AAT and Anakin's Starfighter. I love the AT-DP and the Stormtroopers battlepack. I'll also get the TIE Advanced if only for the Inquisitor... I really want to like the Azure Angel. The Clone Wars microseries was a great show and I've always wanted to see LEGO make an incarnation of it. But right now, like the speeder bikes, it looks off as well. Hopefully those two sets and the packaging will be fixed before the wave hits the shelves.

Wow, these preliminaries look stunning. Some genuinely good builds here-I won't just be buying these for the figures. This is a huge step up from the abysmal 2014 wave... -

True. But then again, you don't have to check ten different threads to see if there are any new photos of upcoming sets. But, on the other hand, you don't have to sift through a plethora of fan-made content on Eurobricks. There are ups and downs to both. -

I suggest periodically checking under the "new photos" section of Brickipedia (lego.wikia.com). -
Wow! I'm very interested to see the pictures now. This is an unusually late release for a UCS... I wonder if the Tumbler took up the spot usually held by Star Wars UCS releases.

What's Your Favourite and Least Favourite Star Wars Movie?
montgocloud replied to Sir Brickalot's topic in Culture & Multimedia
Favorite- A New Hope-unaltered (yes, I'm one of those guys. I can't stand the revisions meant to "enhance" the classic films). No other movie can come close to giving me the feeling that A New Hope gives me after it's all over. The rush of excitement, adventure, romance... My parents tell me that I used to watch it over and over-quite literally. They would have to rewind the tape once it was through playing and start it over for me. Least favorite- Attack of the Clones. I hate the whole of the prequel trilogy, I really do. And I was born somewhat close to the prequel trilogy generation. But as the years passed by, I started noticing all of the leaps in logic and the horrible, horrible flaws. This one takes the cake though. From the sterile and emotionless battle scenes to the sterile and emotionless love scenes, it's completely unwatchable. I have a slim amount of nostalgia for the Phantom Menace. I hate it, sure, but there's at least something going for it. And it was hard to choose between Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith, I despise both so much. But at least Revenge of the Sith has a great screen presence in Ian McDiarmid. His performance in ROTS is the only thing that's fun to watch in the entirety of the prequel films. -
I'm not sure if there as a thread for this yet but I didn't find one. Is anyone on Steam? I think it would be fun to share usernames and create a Eurobricks community. I'm sure there are some common multiplayer games between us (I don't own many myself though ). My username is montgocloud, what about you guys? EDIT: Perhaps this would be better suited for the Community forum.

DC Superheroes 2015 Rumors & Discussions
montgocloud replied to Ezekiel2517's topic in LEGO Licensed
So we think. DC's track record of following their plans is pretty much non-existent. -
That doesn't take into account the huge evolution of set design from 2001 to now. I highly doubt that the piece count and price of the 2001 version will be comparable to the 2015 one.

LEGO Minecraft (Minfigure Scale) 2014 Rumors and Discussion

To me, the mold looks similar to a 1x1x1 corner panel. It has probably been modified with a clip as Just2Good point out. These are official sets, not MOCs. -
Jurassic World 2015 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to somelegothings_'s topic in LEGO Licensed
I imagine that we'll get sets based on the older films as well based on prior history (Indiana Jones and the Harry Potter relaunch) and because LEGO will probably want to reuse their new dinosaur molds as much as possible.- 1412 replies

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
I totally agree with you, I hate this movie (just see the TMNT topic in the Culture & Multimedia forum for my rant) and it rips off ASM, but to be fair it wasn't the exact same tower. ASM's was at Oscorp, a completely made-up CGI tower.
