I think it's important to keep in mind that those three sets were released at the same time or a few months before the ones based on the first film, which featured a more appropriate color scheme of tans, grays, and blacks. So the bizarre colors weren't because "these sets are old," this was very deliberate on LEGO's part. I'm personally in the camp that thinks LEGO was marketing those to girls and the others to boys since Harry Potter largely appeals to both. They probably didn't sell very well (I still have them though!) causing LEGO to stop any production on future waves.

REVIEW: 10937 Batman: Arkham Asylum Breakout
montgocloud replied to Clone OPatra's topic in LEGO Licensed
I would change "Mines of Moria" to "Tower of Orthanc" but other than that I think you're right on the money! -
Ok that's great news and surprisingly rejuvenates my interest in this theme... I guess I'm easily swayed.
-
That's an awful risk ("this had better work" ) to take. I mean your marketing the set to a fraction (AFOLs) of a fraction (rich AFOLs) of potential buyers...
-
Not to retread old ground but the Jedi Temple has little to no play features that can help market it to LEGO's largest demographic, children. In 'Episode I,' you only saw Qui-Gon talk to the council about Anakin and Anakin doing his little test. In 'Episode II,' Obi-Wan talks to children waving their lightsabers a little too close to one another and researches a planet in a library. Finally, in 'Episode III,' Anakin gets mad for not getting promoted to Jedi Master and slaughters children (called Younglings in the film so Lucas doesn't have to say slaughter children). So, other than basing it upon 'The Clone Wars,' how could LEGO viably market the set to kids?

Just2Good, is there printing on the mouth of the first Ned you bought? I didn't recall it from your video but the new full figure appears to have some sort of brown mouth print (that I personally think looks horrible).

It seems that the turret isn't on a turntable like the one in the Death Star, so it would probably look pretty awkward. Wholeheartedly agree with that. I only buy OT sets and this fairly barren wave will give me a chance to buy the larger sets I missed out on in 2013! These sets look nice enough and I'm sure the kids will eat up those new blasters (hopefully not literally). I think it looks awkward because, in the film, their dark red arms were almost entirely covered by their bright red robe. A good compromise would have been dark red hands and normal red arms.

I think the problem with the Utapau Troopers set is the box design. The droid should be closer in the shot, the troopers should be standing in some sort of formation, the background is extremely dull and should be swapped for some sort of cave with a large opening to the cliff side or maybe even a shot of the sinkhole city. Anything to make the set seem more appealing... do any PT fans have suggestions for a good background?

As an OT fan I'll only by the Microfighters that interest me and the DS Battle Pack, but this wave looks great in terms of set quality. I'll have to see how they look without the stud in them, but those new blasters are looking much better than what we saw in the blurry preliminary pics.

I wholehardedly agree with this. Just a simple playset that looks nice on a display shelf is all I need! However, shouldn't this whole topic be merged with the future super heroes discussion? I'm not an expert on these things though, so that question may be really stupid.

Those sets all look sublime! I can't wait to see what the final designs for the steamroller and Marvel sets look like!

By the end would the set have the outward appearance of the actual Helicarrier? Or would it connect to the 2012 Hulk breakout set with technic pins and just be a playset like the recent Hoth Base?

This weekend I was planning on taking 9495 Y-Wing Starfighter off of display (fantastic set by the way) and putting it into storage for a month or two. But once I started disassembling the top turret, I found that I could not separate the light bluish grey pin double with axle hole (part 32138) with the two flick missles (part 61184). Does anyone have any suggestions for taking these three pieces apart?

I checked the preliminary photos again and it looks as if red hips Spidey is the new norm for 2014 (except for the Ock set, of course). Also, I added red hips to one of my Spider-Men and the result is extremely bizarre. Like I said before, they're just overkill.

The Spider-Man we got in '12 and '13 have blue hips. The only change is the red hips and I was just remarking that I think it's an asinine one. That's just my opinion though.

Has anyone else noticed that Spider-Man has red hips in this set? This look extremely atrocious since the red bit that reaches all the way around his costume is already represented with printing and this is, in effect, the same thing as printing it twice on the torso.

Well first we know that LEGO can handle releasing sufficient sets for two trilogies at once (Star Wars OT/PT and Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit). Also, this may just be wishful thinking, but I'm pretty sure that Disney will want to push the OT merchandise since kids will want to play with their Luke Skywalker and Han Solo (hopefully?) LEGO minifigures now that they've seen them on screen once again. Also, judging by what Disney has been posting on the Star Wars Facebook page, the first trailers for the OT movies, we can see that they are trying to get everyone into the OT mindset again. Out with the old-new and in with the old-old if you will.

I guess you're right. Not to get too off topic, but where does the dark red in all of the replicas (LEGO and otherwise) come from? Also, check my first comment again---I added another point a little while ago.

Amazing job! The angles are realistic and the overall product is very accurate to the studio model. The only things I would modify are: 1. Overall Color-The Millennium Falcon had a great deal of dark red and even some dark tan areas splattered to break up the monotony of the grey. Tiles would be a very simple way to sufficiently represent this. 2. Turret Interior-I love the removable top section of the turrets, but I think it would be a nice touch to section the interior off with some round bricks to hide the rest of the empty shell and supports. And would it be possible to add a seat for the bottom turret without compromising the shape or structure of the ship? 3. It would be nice if the bottom ramp had the supports like in the film. I'm not sure how they were constructed in the UCS Falcon, but if the method is fairly simple, I'd add those in. Is there any chance that you would make an LDD file? I'd love to build this fantastic model for myself.
-
I think he was referring to the rumor about a system scale Tie Advanced, though another UCS version would be nice seeing as the prices on the secondary market for the first are atrocious.

I personally hate everything about the prequels, but I feel very sorry for the LEGO fans that do enjoy them. The original trilogy sets are so diverse: we get the Death Star, the Ewok Village, the Mon Calamari Star Cruiser, Jabba's Palace, and so on. Meanwhile, LEGO hasn't even touched the Naboo power control room thing or the Geonosis arena or even the Jedi Temple... They did do the Mustafar mining facility once. Didn't turn out too well though.
-
Me neither---he looks nothing like the OT costume. Though I do think that a lot of the problems would be resolved if the light brown prints were changed to reddish brown. Actually I think the print is entirely different than anything we've seen thus far. It's a shame that the torso printing has changed ONCE AGAIN, however I can't say that I'm not happy: the entire figure is far more detailed and has an amazing flow from torso to legs... It's almost impossible to tell that the figure is made up of multiple pieces!
-
I didn't even think of that to be completely honest. That's a really good point---But if it has to be that way, I wish that there at least could be a more diverse selection of these vehicles. I know the reason there aren't though: Spidey sells. Well I guess they're doing something right seeming that I've collected all the sets thus far... But you're right, my purchases are mainly based on the minifigures and a nice build is an added bonus. I have to say though, in my opinion the Superheroes line has featured a lot of surprisingly satisfying builds!

Oh no... For some reason I get the feeling that the Ghost might look horrible in LEGO form due to the bizarre coloring. Look at all that blue, yellow, and green!
-
To my knowledge, he's only shown as a preliminary drawing in the pictures that were leaked from the retailer's catalog. You'll find him in the image featuring drawings of all of the figures from the main line of sets. As an OT fan, he's not so desirable for me because of the coloring. He's more accurate to the Episode III version and not the OT costume, which is not surprising.
