Could 2014 Make Lego Fans Bankrupt?

True that. I fully collect LEGO Superheroes... It has been an EXPENSIVE year. Not to mention OT Star Wars, architecture, THE LEGO MOVIE... Jeez. But I can't complain, *almost* everything I've bought has been quality LEGO.

    Which Comic Do You Read?

I've been reading a lot of Image recently in addition to my Marvel books. I've followed The Walking Dead nearly since its inception, but now I'm also picking up Sex Criminals, Velvet, and East of West. Sex Criminals is a comedy from Matt Fraction, who is also the author of Hawkeye. Velvet is a political espionage thriller set in the Cold War written by Ed Brubaker, the creator of The Winter Solider. East of West is an interesting alternate history piece where the Civil War ended in a stalemate and the United States has now been divided into seven different countries and their fate rests on the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. It mainly follows a Clint Eastwood-esque Death who is on his own personal quest. I would highly recommend all four of these.

    Which Themes Deserve a Reboot?

I would like to see some more from the Classic Space revival. First THE LEGO MOVIE, then the Exo-Suit... it just seems like we're already moving in that direction. Maybe some Rock Raiders or some Ice Planet? I want some more zany space themes with interesting locales. Galaxy Squad was awesome, don't get me wrong, but it was pretty bland in terms of cool locations. But it wasn't trying to have a cool location either. It was more focused on the conflict of space vehicles vs. bug monsters. So maybe what I really want is a non-conflict space theme.

    Marvel Cinematic Universe

*Sorry in advance for the highly unstructured review.* I saw the exclusive 17 minute IMAX showing of GOTG last night. Wow! As an avid fan of GOTG, this looks fantastic. There is a nice blend of comedy and action, more leaning towards comedy with what was shown. It looks and feels exactly like a comic book. There is a clear threat of Ronan the Accuser, but he is never fully shown. I like this and I hope turns out to be a "mentioned but not shown" type of villain in the final film, sort of like Jabba the Hutt in the theatrical OT. I'm completely sold on Bradley Cooper's Rocket Raccoon. He gets some laugh-out-loud one-liners. I was really rooting for Dave Bautista to be good as Drax: in interviews he always sounds so humble and he seems like a great guy. I'm happy to say that he is awesome as Drax. He is HUGE and has good comedic timing. We weren't really shown much of him in the preview. Chris Pratt is always a pleasure to watch. Groot grew and shrunk A LOT throughout the footage, so his LEGO appearance makes a bit more sense now. The IMAX was awesome! I was sucked into the world right from the opening moments. All in all, this is going to be a hit. I love everything I saw.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

But then again, look at the figures for LEGO Marvel Superheroes. The 2014 figures are exact matches of what are in the game. I think TT is getting more and more of a heads up from LEGO with each release. That being said, please release an Alfred soon, LEGO. The Batcave just isn't complete without him. And the Bricklink prices are ridiculous.

    Lego and sunlight

I talked with some of the employees at the park and apparently they actually put sunscreen on the models (who would've thought...)! They take in the models during the winter to repair the broken ones and replace the ones badly damaged by sunlight.

Should LEGO cut ties with Shell?

Why doesn't Greenpeace focus on stopping Shell from drilling in the arctic? Isn't that the bigger problem? How does bullying a toy company achieve their end goal of stopping Shell from arctic drilling? Quick answer: it doesn't. It just makes for better, more controversial headlines.

What was the last movie you watched?

I just saw Snowpiercer! Wow, what a film. Criminally undermarketed and suffering from a sort-of-but-not-really-wide release. It is an ambitiously imaginative dystopian thriller from director Joon Ho-Bong. He really shows his knowhow of storytelling and worldbuilding in the film medium with Snowpiercer. He throws you into a radical world and dulls out the specifics little by little, so not only are you watching a nail-biting thriller, but you're also piecing together how this world works. It's filmmaking at its finest. It isn't for everyone, though. Graphic violence and ideas are found throughout. But if you don't mind that sort of thing, find this movie AT ALL COSTS. It's one to see on the big screen.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

LEGO is really not to blame for what figures they do or do not include, that decision usually goes to the license. I would forward all planned angry emails to DC. I know, right? There are so many locations in the Marvel universe that would make for great sets. Avengers Tower! The Helicarrier! The X-Mansion! I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but really. Marvel needs an exclusive. Please? I'll even take, I dunno... Bruce Banner's hideout in India? Not really.

    Teenage Mutant Avenger Turtles

Wow, what an ingenious crossover! Perfect character parallels. I find it especially hilarious that Thor is Mikey.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I think we might see a Ventriloquist and Scarface, honestly. Why else would they go through the trouble of using a B or even C-string villain? Just a thought. All this talk of a Tumbler is getting me woefully unexcited. It's too small to do a large figure based set and a larger-than-figure scale set would be pretty boring to be honest. The Tumbler is really just a black box with some weird angles and ridiculous wheels.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Just a small remark on the winter released DC sets. I recently had the (mis)fortune of watching the direct-to-DVD animated feature "Son of Batman." It features Damian Wayne AND Man Bat prevalently. Probably where the inspiration to include those figures in the sets came from.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

This Ultimate Spider-Man news is fantastic! Alternate Spider-Men and Agent Venom would be great additions to the LEGO Marvel universe. Let's hope that some of this actually comes to fruition next year.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I don't know about that. Those sets were planned before Marvel's recent move to put everything F4 and X-Men related on the back burner. They're phasing them from relevancy in the comics so I would be shocked if they weren't going to do the same merchandising wise.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

No. And it's not even because they're casting younger people. Marvel tried to reaccquire the rights not too long ago and Fox obviously denied. So Marvel is deciding to phase out some of their oldest characters from relevancy... Great plan...?
  16. Wow... I'm not sure about the other three, but the Mine, oh my! I think I'm in love

Thanks for all the kind words everyone! I just checked and the rest of the sets are now on shelves.

LEGO Star Wars 2014 Pictures and Rumors

Wow... Well this is a step back to say the least. It looks unfinished. I think a lot of the problem stems from the studs on the side. They would be fine if most of the side had studs, but since it's around 50/50, it looks... Bleh. And six droids? That's all it can fit? Good thing I'm not a PT collector...

Review: 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue

My bad! I'll change that in the review... Yes, they are all wearing the same pants, Ronan's sphere is moulded, and the technic panels are in silver.

    Star Wars

Gary Whitta? As in the same Gary Whitta who posted (on gaming website NeoGaf)... 2008, in response to a post about the prequels: "Guess what, those movies f***ing sucked too." And, in 2011, on the Blu-Ray Special Editions: "OG editions of Episodes IV, V, and VI ACQUIRED! Ripping them to Apple TV this afternoon, then I plan to watch the trilogy the way that I remember it! F*** Lucas and his vandalized Blu-rays. He's turned us all into scavengers, scraping around in the trash cans of the internet for our childhoods." I mean I agree with him wholeheartedly, but then again I'm not an employee of Lucasfilm... Review: 76021 The Milano Spaceship Rescue

Yes I am! The LEGO store had said that they haven't gotten any in besides the Milano and the X-Jet, but I'll be sure to pick it up once it's on shelves.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

Wait, everyone, just noticed this while I was taking pictures for a review that will HOPEFULLY go up later today. There is a sideways clip over the stereo for Gamora's sword. How did I miss that?

No, the back isn't a ramp unfortunately, just a big window.

    Which Comic Do You Read?

I'd just begin reading the Bendis run. Start with the first trade, entitled "Cosmic Avengers." Then I imagine that you could skip to issue #14, which shouldn't be too hard to find, as around #7-13 of Guardians was inconsequential event tie-ins. That should save you around $100.

Super Heroes 2014 Rumors & Discussion

I'm going to elaborate on the set a bit more because I had not finished the set when I posted before. My opinion hasn't changed, the Milano is one of if not the best Superheroes set released. The interior is very large and detailed, though I wish a little potted plant would have been included to represent Groot (but he may not do that in the film so I won't count it against the designers). It looks kind of dirty and unorganized like you'd imagine. The only downside is that of the three loose clips along the wall of the ship, NONE of them are positioned in such a way for Gamora's sword to fit. There are a lot of thrusters (and when I say a lot, I mean around five), including a bigger one that covers most of the back window, two poseable ones, and two large thrusters that are underneath the wings. The winged panels at the end of each wing are pretty difficult to configure correctly. It took me a couple minutes to get them just right. There are twelve NUMBERED stickers. I don't know if stickers have ever been numbered in the past but I've never seen them be. It takes a lot of the confusion out of the equation. The new Star Wars battle pack blasters are well implemented as turrets below the ship. I'm a bit surprised, however, that the new larger 1x4 brick blasters are nowhere to be seen on the Milano. They're featured on Ronan's ship, but not the Milano. It's especially perplexing considering how much room there is underneath the ship. Well, I think that's about all I have to say. Sorry for the very unorganized thoughts, I tried to provide some structure but... It's still pretty unorganized. Overall, a definite buy.
