Actually, the blue TIE Fighter makes a lot of sense if you go behind the scenes. TIE Fighters were always meant to have blue markings on them, however, the blue screen used on A New Hope caused it to appear black, much like when R2-D2's markings appeared black in the space scenes of the unaltered cut of the original trilogy. The model makers settled on coloring the markings grey instead. The Kenner toys still used the blue markings. Later, the technology improved and the blue markings can clearly be seen in the asteroid scene in The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi Endor battle.

I love 7140. It's a great set. I understand what you're saying about 1999-2001 LEGO Star Wars. They've got a great, classic LEGO look. They're always a blast to put together and swoosh around. But I also love the new Star Wars sets! They're really accurate and serve as great display pieces. Both are almost completely different and whether you like one over the other is merely a matter of taste. I don't think calling other members "children" for having a differing opinion is really appropriate. Some people like different things. Such is life.

MOC Clockwork Orange - merchandise photo display
montgocloud replied to Chapachuk's topic in Special LEGO Themes
Simple but instantly recognizable. I particularly love the angles. The final image really brings out the atmosphere of the scene. Great work! -
I think the Shadow Troopers will be tied into Rebels. Hopefully Kyle Katarn makes an appearance in the show and we can see him in the sets? Please? I don't have my hopes up though.

What was the last movie you watched?
montgocloud replied to EbonHawk's topic in Culture & Multimedia
I just watched a bunch of Woody Allen classics including Annie Hall, Hannah and Her Sister, Manhattan, and Everything you Wanted to Know About Sex (*But Were Afraid to Ask). All wonderful films. They're hilarious, heartwarming, and extremely relatable. I can easily recommend them to everyone. -
I think the AT-AT is really great. It's really stable, there is (obviously) a lot of posability, and this version includes more Imperial troops than the rest. The main interior leaves a lot to be desired though. If you don't have an AT-AT, I would recommend it. I only had the 2003 version and I was pleasantly surprised by this one. The winner of the wave is definitely the Imperial Star Destroyer though.

This is amazing! I grew up with Fawlty Towers on VHS. So many little details that would make any fans of the show giddy. Watery Fowls, the moose, the fire extinguisher. It's obvious a lot of care was put into this MOC and it surely pays off. Great work!

September LEGO Store Calendar - Classic Space VIP set!
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in General LEGO Discussion
It's coming to the US? Great! I'll save up my money and purchase the Ghost and the Phantom in September. I love the pseudo classic space revival going on at the moment. -
I really liked Guardians of the Galaxy. It perfectly introduced people to the larger cosmic Marvel universe. However, I think it should have focused a bit more on Peter Quill and his strained relationship with his father. The movie was a coming-of-age story for that character, so leaving his father for the sequel seems really counterintuitive. But then again, Marvel used this movie as a setup for Thanos and the Infinity Gauntlet, so Peter's father wouldn't really fit into the story. I’m really conflicted as to whether that’s a problem or not. But in the end, despite being unsure on the story, I thought the movie had a lot of heart and charm. It was so much fun and I can’t wait to see it again.

Asst Manager at Glendale Lego Store Stole $50k in Sets
montgocloud replied to Gooker1's topic in General LEGO Discussion
$50,000 is a LOT of LEGO. Wow. That store must have had some lousy internal control... -
I'm not sure why in the review you said it wasn't stable enough to stand on three legs. I bought one to put in my Hoth display and it stands on three legs just fine for me!

What was the last movie you watched?

I just saw Boyhood yesterday! What a remarkable film. I imagine everybody will get something different from it, whether you're young, in college, a parent. I can easily reccomend it to anyone. -
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2014 Rumors & Discussion
montgocloud replied to just2good's topic in LEGO Licensed
The costumes from the first film, done by Jim Henson, still hold up extremely well. Though the CG Turtles are better than the costumes from TMNT II and III, I'll give you that. -
I just love that interior... Wow. And the way you made a ring around the wings with 2x1 plates is amazing. I think you'll get a prize for sure!

Comic-Con figures confirmed to getting stolen by Scalpers days before
montgocloud replied to Navy Trooper Fenson's topic in General LEGO Discussion
I'm not particularly mad at the figure selection For this year's Comic Con. It's only variants and The Collector, who is not really a must have. But what this guy is doing is inexcusable and I hope LEGO at least investigates the matter. I know they have to pick and choose which battles they pursue, but since this is the second year in a row this has happened, I think it warrants a fight. -

That looks amazing! Wow. Another winner $20 set from Superheroes. A day one purchase to be sure! -
Phew! That 66 Batmobile looks pretty inaccurate. I don't even have the slightest interest in buying it now! My wallet is content.

No. No. No. Please not the '66 Batmobile. Please. Are you... Serious? Rocket Raccoon... Ok. The Collector... I can stomach. But the '66 Batmobile, a cultural icon? Come on! That just means that the fabulous LEGO Ideas project has no hope now. Fantastic.

Eh, I'm fine with it. Sure, it would have been nice to have a matching team, but it's better to have a character than not to have a character at all. This doesn't even come close to Pheonix, Spider Woman, Green Arrow, Shazam, or Bizarro. It's even better than the alternate suit Spidey in my opinion. And at least it's not a full scale Warbird. All in all, this could've gone much, much worse...

Licensed figures being based on concept art
montgocloud replied to KingPixels's topic in LEGO Licensed
The Mandarin from the smallest Iron Man 3 set, the "Ultimate Showdown," also fell victim to concept changes. Also the inclusion of War Machine instead of Iron Patriot was probably because of early concept ideas. The art book features some renders of War Machine. http://www.comicbookmovie.com/fansites/MarvelFreshman/news/?a=79425 -
[MOC] Holy schrunken Batmobile 1966 [ 7 stud wide ]
montgocloud replied to B Rick's topic in LEGO Licensed
Wow, this is one of if not the best 66 Batmobile MOC in minifigure scale. I was just wondering how you did the slopes under the car? What bricks did you use to attach them? -
Best/Worst designed licenced minifigure ever?
montgocloud replied to Santaduckz's topic in LEGO Licensed
A definite worst for 2013 is Vernon Fenwick from the TMNT movie line. The hair works, though it should have been colored dark brown. The face, however, isn't okay. It doesn't fit Will Arnett at all and it looks really odd because the eyebrow color doesn't match his hair. But apart from the accuracy, the main problem is the simplicity of the figure. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm all for simple figures, but there has to be some consistency. Every other figure has cheekbones and other facial details EXCEPT Vernon. Like Colonel Hardy from the Man of Steel line, it's pretty distracting. Though, to be fair, Hardy was a lot worse. In the words of Will Arnett's GOB, "COME ON!" -
I love your updated head, even if there are a couple of gaps. I think the interior detail more than makes up for that. What did you use to strengthen the neck?
