Great build. Have those flex tubes been cut, or are they naturally shorter? The photography is nice too. What made you decide to enlargen the aperture, making part of the build out of focus? Lastly, I must commend your parts usage. But what are those printed 1x1 plates, and how do you have so many? The same goes for the droid head roof pieces.
Thanks! No cut flex tubes, just bought some different lengths off of Bricklink. The photography was less of a creative decision, and more so that I had ten minutes to take pictures before I departed to my friend's house for the gift exchange. I'm still not completely sold on the photography personally, but I'm glad to hear you like it! :) As for the 1 x 1 printed minecraft plates, I placed a Bricklink order a long time ago for them as this build concept was intended to be a collab a few years ago with Dan the Fan. And, I finally just got around to using them as you can see. ;)

A collab with Carter displayed at BricksCascade 2024. Utopian post-apoc? Futuristic steampunk? Neo-classical sci-fi? We're still not sure what it is thematically, so that's why I'm posting in this theme on the forum.
This build is 360° viewable, and the picture of the back can be viewed on Carter's alt account. Also, we were able to use 60 different LEGO colors in the build. (Including all the Sand colors!)

What a fun build and story. It turned out very cohesive and vibrant.
Congrats on the summer joust win!
Thanks Jim for the kind words! Yeah, it was a pleasant surprise to get a win! :)

Well... Doesn't look like I'll finish in time, loved seeing all the builds though! Great work everyone. :)

A collab for the Silhouette Category of the 2023 Summer Joust with Sean Mayo, Carter W, Eli Willsea, Micah Beideman and myself. Loosely based off of some concept art released with the announcement of Alto's Oddysey: The Lost City. Instead of making a 6 stud depth build myself, I thought it would be fun to have 6 builders build 1 stud depth "layers" and then compile them into one seamless image, and this is the result!
The layers were built by the builders as follows:
Dk Brown: Sean (Because Grant had to bail last minute)
Reddish Brown: Me
Dark Tan: Carter
Sand Blue: Eli
Medium Blue: Micah
Medium Azure: SeanAnd now that I've dissed Grant for bailing last minute, I can also thank Grant for "breaking into" Eli's house and taking pictures of Eli's layer while Eli was out of town so that we could make it by the deadline!
To Jesus Christ my Lord and Savior be the glory!

Thanks all for the compliments and feedback! @GeoBrick, it's a little hard to see, but the two on the pillars underneath the large frog statues are in the flat silver color. Cheers!

Really tough to vote for this round, I assume the finals will be even tougher...
P.S. I think his username is Servertijd, not Severtijd. Small typo ;)

Well done De Gothia! Best of luck man! My vote goes to @The Last of Nergoue. :)
-
And I'll respect De Gothia's decision to not vote. Best of luck man!

Awesome! Such a wonderful busy-ness to it, yet keeping it simplistic with the textures. :) Really nice work! Keep it up!
-
Really nice work Grover! Love that you went for a story tower here! Great story as well. As far a favorite detail, I gotta go with that awesome chandelier using the pirate wheel! Keep up the good work man!

@TheLordOfBricks Just to parry his vote, I normally don't support voting for oneself.

Nice entry! I haven't learnt how to make those crazy angles yet, so I'm impressed every time. I particularly enjoy seeing roofs of different colours in the same (small!) build, I'd have never thought they could work that well
'my favorite spot of texture is hidden behind the guy sitting down' <--- this cracked me up
Thanks En_Zoo! Yeah, I was also kind of surprised it worked with all the colors.

Thanks man! Good luck to you too!

Thanks de Gothia! Yes, lots of angels. ;) Thanks again!

I am glad to see someone did something a bit more elaborate for the challenge, maximizing the available space to create an illusion of a much larger build. The texture you have here is also top-notch on the stone section. It looks great, and that comes from me, a vocal critic of your previous style! This is clean while still being detailed and textured, without appearing dilapidated and un-maintained. The half-plate and half-stud offsets, combined with some 1x2 plates with rail and the odd closed stud, is just great. I think it might be my favorite texture I have seen in LEGO in a long time. I don't like the tudor section as much, but it still looks nice and gets the job done. Don't forget to post it in the HSS thread if you have not done so already.
Wow, thanks much HQ! I am also quite pleased with the stone texture, took me a few tries to get the textures right. As for the Tudor, yeah I kind of agree, but I have 2 large builds and a few broken down builds which have eaten up my pieces, I wanted to go all dk. tan with just olive accents and reduce the angles some... Thanks again!

Thanks man! Yep, went tall with this one.

There's a little tiny something I don't like about the tower, or rather my eye tells me it could be better, but the rest is pretty spiffy man, keep it up!
Thanks Navarre! Yeah, agreed the tower really doesn't look that great here, but it does IRL. ;)

You use a lot of great texture and color in the buildings that look great. I especially love the dark blue roof contrasting with the dark read and black ones. The olive green imitating moss or mold growing on the bottom of the walls is especially nice. As for HSS, I get the inn and the tower... but where is the glass blower? I don't see that in the build, and I'd love to! Very nice work!
Thanks Grover! Heh, I can see your point, but I'm not much of a gamer, so I haven't taken much inspiration from them. ;) Also, as for the glassblower, I decided to change it to the cooper for the same category... I realized I put more barrels and baskets in the scene than I did glass.

Wait, so I'm up against Grover in voting this round? Or is that the for sure matchups next round? Either way best of luck Grover! May the noblest knight win! ;)
-
Nice work Joel! Really good job for a one day build, the colors are very cohesive, although the tree on the right isn't my favorite. Clever idea to have a dual level scene! Keep it up my man!

Wow, the second picture is so fantastic! Also, really great shelves! Keep it up man!

Thanks for all the kind words!
Thanks! No particular piece of artwork that inspired it, and I sorta just went section by section and built what seemed right. A few of my good friends in the LEGO community have been tinkering with various rounded boulder designs, so I figured I'd give it a shot too. :)
Thanks! It is transportable enough to make it back and forth to a convention, but definitely has to come apart into a few different sections during transport.
