LEGO Star Wars 2018 Set Discussion - READ FIRST POST!

Lego really seem to be going hard after the resellers and investors as they have now re-released the Taj Mahal. I would say SSD seems next on the list at this rate -

I think Alexastor makes a really valid point about white printing on any kind of base colour. It just doesn't look very good and i suspect they actively try and avoid doing it if possible. A recent example would be the legs on Tatooine Luke where they moved away from printing white onto tan to the more recent tan printing on white base. -

I'd say it's all subjective and we all have different opinions on what's good or bad. It would be interesting to see what other minifigs this graphic designer has done. Maybe it's a styling theme they have? -

I don't think it's a case of Lego not caring or letting standards slip but rather Disney not giving them concrete final designs for upcoming movies. From my understanding the time it takes to produce a Minifig is very lengthy and work from early sketches often. There is then the added problem of Disney changing designs before the final release. If you think about it, the perception that Lego accuracy is slipping has only really come about recently as they try to second guess what a character will look like before the films have been released. -
ooh, Ardywan has an ESB version out. I will have to try and track that down as i really enjoyed the New hope revisited edition.

The attention to detail you've put into this is outstanding and I too prefer older prints on some figures, such as Dengar. You have stated that colour palette is incorrect and reference the Adywan version of the film as a source to be used. Isn't that counter-intuitive? That version of the film is a fan edit that is trying to update Star Wars to look like a more modern polished film with extra sounds, models, lighting and all sorts and not restore it to its original theatre state. As for the tan office, I like them as it's the only version of an imperial office you can get in any significant numbers cheaply

The atmospheric flight suit will be a mix and match of various minifigs. The helmet is from set 7915, the visor is probably a rebel pilot head and the torso/legs from a more recent tie pilot. The end result really is a great figure though. Agree on the Hovertank Pilot. The helmet is just not good at all but adding Syndrome's dual moulded arms to it does make it a slightly better mini figure. But only slightly.

Been using previous versions for reference the last few years as they are great for someone who is a bit OCD about troop building. Love the latest update but shouldn't the bottom right military intelligence figure be the tan mini figure? Just out of interest, to follow up on Mamma Mia Bricks point, is there a reason you keep some of the older variations in your collection? You obviously put a lot of time and money (all those dual modded legs!) into these but keep older prints that can easily be updated for very little money. For me the blue AT-AT driver is a better looking version, if not one of my favourite imperial troopers, so do you keep older versions out of preference?

looks amazing but you forgot to show us the most important angle so we can see the engine lighting in its full glory. -
Well it can't hurt to get one of the new belts and play around with some combinations for starters. I thought the brown version looked great on some of the rebel fighters but i get the point that it could become overkill combined with certain prints.

The RPF have this imagine and they tend to take this type of stuff very seriously. As you can see the seating is not as tan as the corridor but not grey like the seating structure but somewhere in-between. Its the old problem of lego not having a huge range of colours available. -
The new Batgirl in the Joker manor set has the utility belt in white so I will need to buy a bucket load of those to update my Stormtroopers and rebel snow troopers. Its been the one recolour I've been waiting on since the new Batman utility belt was released. Hope they turn up on bricks and pieces or a German bricklink store ends up with thousands of them some how.

This is recent history repeating in many ways and no lessons learned. In the late 90's and early 2000's they almost went bankrupt doing exactly what they are doing now. They are trying to become a massive global all conquering powerhouse and loose the wholesome, grounded, family run business image. The lines produced are just too thinned out and diluted of focused quality. Back in the late 90's they pushed new products that moved away from traditional sets with znap, primo, galidor and scala. Now we have the likes of brickheadz, constractor and boost which is trying to be the new playground hit, resulting in a more scatter gun attempt at selling concepts. Lego just needs to be Lego. Focus on the core themes again and the rest will follow as they say. It's as if they are scarred to produce the staple themes of city, space, castle and pirates because they are too plain. But I believe kids are willing to use their own imagination and build a world around the quality core Lego are capable of producing. Once you build an ever present group of characters like nexo knight or ninjago it becomes much more restricted. finally, they have to stop pricing the core market out of their toys - KIDS! The themes produced by Lego are simply targeted at the high end of the price range and moving away from cheaper instant buy to one off Xmas or birthday presents. The recent Nijago And Star Wars releases are good examples of this. Yes a line needs a high value set to showcase the theme but now there are too many, such as the city, bounty, mechs and tank in the nijago release. The short version would be; Have confidence in the core quality of your product and let kids join you with affordable sets.

I would snap their hand off at the Uk price. Something I never imagined me saying about a £650 Lego set. I was expecting £700-£800 given legos random price conversion lottery. -
SW: TLJ set reviews taken down from YouTube

As far as I'm aware Jang is not in bed in Lego, does not receive sets or sign embargoes forms with them so in effect he is a normal punter on the street giving his view on a set he bought legally from a shop. Strange that Lego and Disney don't threaten to sue big multinational retailers for releasing sets early. Maby it's because they also have endless pots of money and just as many lawyers. Megablocking cowards! What's even stranger is how one day they send him an iPad in a box then threaten to sue the next day. Just odd behaviour from Lego. -

Don't take this the wrong way but can you please keep it to yourself as we go through so many first post trolls that many news craving members grasp at in hope. I'm not saying it's perfect junction but it's a good effort. Having played around with building my own Falcon I thought I could do a decent job of it.... then you end up rebuilding the corner dozens and dozens of times. The trouble is I wanted a perfect junction like many others would, however, when you build your falcon the curved pieces used dictate that the corridor and canopy meet in a very particular way and you soon become very restricted in the solutions you have. I'm really looking forward to the release so that we can see the different mods and improvements made by everyone. -

That corner is near impossible to get right as its a curved corner meeting at a difficult angle. You could spend a lifetime trying to get that right to no avail. -

The Falcon has to be real as we would have seen a moc this good before. It uses way too many of the recently released modified tiles and macaroni pieces and just has that lego design about it. Love the way the docking ring is constructed as the sloped nature of it is tricky to replicate and the stepped approach looks good. The greebling in general looks top notch along with all the piping. If this is the actual release, I can't wait to get my hands on it and start modding. First task is to redesign those blocky fins at the back made from 1x2 slopped bricks. -

This is my take on the extra pieces. I think we will either see a detailed underside added or a limited interior. Not both. -

Yoda's hut looks interesting. It reminds me of a simplified version of unexpected gathering set which is never a bad thing. It also has luke in dagobah vest and he's got yoda on his back. I'm happy with all that. No Sand trooper in the Tatooine battlepack is very lazy, boarderline criminal though. -

Only this thread could see a short clip of floating bricks in space and then start doing size comparisons of a not yet released set against one of the most complex and detailed Mocs ever made. Love it. -

Really liking the direct of the new battle packs but if 75198 Tatooine battle pack does contain 2 Jawas, it will be a case of Lego getting so close but not quite getting it. Exchange one of the Jawas for a Sand trooper and it will sell more packs as that figure is amazing. Jawas can't be that big of a draw in a battlepack as I somehow have 7/8 of them just from the last few years and I wasn't going out my way to collect them. As for the astromech droid, please let it be anything else but R2.
