The rarest of LEGO Star Wars collections
That Orange Thing replied to Markalus's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Wow, that's a collection most, if not all of us, could only dream of owning. The amount of money that is in that picture has got to be brain melting high. How much was the Boba rumoured to be by the way? -
Are these from solo? I'm not sure where they are from but they are a fantastic representation of the source material. Great job.

The pocket printing half off the torso onto plain legs still looks odd to me and the alternative choking face could have been better. I think Lego could have done a lot better with this one. -

It is in the picture but in looking at the brickset stock pic of cloud city Lando to compare I noticed that the picture on that German site that we are looking at is using the same brickset stock photo in the leak. I'm at work so do not have time to see if all the anniversary figs shown in that pic is using the old brickset pics. I'm guessing they did a mock up only. -

The cape will cover that Think I would prefer the logo version anyway. -

If the picture I have seen is to be believed the Lando is from the old cloud city set. That is a really nice way to get an expensive figure. -
It will probably be just as expensive to buy a full figure before too long anyway as it's from a battlepack. Individual helmets always seem overpriced on bricklink.
-
Surfer from series 17 CMF I believe. I haven't got around to buying any yet but nice to see they look good on the figures.

It depends if someone is willing to pay that price really. You will always pay a premium for an entire collection because the seller is also factoring in time and effort along with the accumulated cost for buying each figure (cost of figure, delivery charges, buying complete sets, storage). I can imagine it took a loooong time to build that collection and I would find it hard to sell for a "reasonable" price. Brickset is listing about 1000 figures and the seller is listing at £17,000 so thats £17 per figure. When i look to buy a cheap common figure i tend to assign a £4-£5 in my head without even looking at the prices but rarer figures can command a lot more. The chrome C-3P0, old cloud city figs, NY Yoda can reach into the hundreds of pounds for a good quality version and there is a large number of figs that sit in the middle ground between the two extremes so the price soon adds up. To anyone wanting to collect Star wars minfigs I would suggest a couple of things. Firstly, choose a sub category of films you enjoy and collect for that. It could be original trilogy, clone army, new trilogy or prequels as it offers a smaller number to aim for and you will have more fun collecting figs you actually like. I'm old and enjoy the original trilogy . Secondly, do not buy huge lots such as the one in the post above as you want to enjoy your hobby as it grows. The desire for a fig, planning, organising, building your own figures, the hunt, the announcement of a new figure by lego....... the list goes on. I've been slowly collecting figures for over10 years since coming out my dark ages and my collection is very much MY collection as each figure has it's own story. I couldn't imagine being as happy if I blew a lot of money on another persons collection and it turned up at my door a few days later. -

If they are now using a plastic that is more prone to cracking they need to hire someone with a chemistry degree because the plastic we have now is cracking enough already. -

I don't remember the film helmets having any 90 degree angles in them. Was this the interns first try at designing a helmet? The last version was so much closer and just required tweaking like so many others have mentioned. -

To be fair I've never heard of the kids complain about the lack of or the quality of printing on a figure. They normally smash them into each other or most heartbreaking of all bite on the heads or legs to pull them apart. I don't think they care about it. Maybe it's more of a AFOL problem -

Except they do have cargo style trousers with pouches. I agree it looks half complete as a figure and wouldn't have been difficult for Lego to throw a pair of grey imperial crew legs on them as it's a print they use now. -
Good luck with all your endeavours but asking AFOL's to pay for you to quit your job and play with Lego full time might be a bit of a stretch for some. Given the chance I'd certainly start a topic that said "I want to quite my boring job, can you fund my Lego hobby?" but I'm guessing mods would soon put me in the naughty corner . Fair play though, If you don't ask you don't get.

Finding LEGO pictures can be tricky so I sit back and enjoy my favourite LEAK INSTA soup instead. I'm not a machine proGRAMed to do such demanding tasks -

I have to agree that this is a wasted mould given the scout trooper helmet is really dated and in need of an update. -

I have to say, when the new rebel pilot helmet first leaked I was not a fan but it has grown on me when in hand. Maybe the new stormie helmet will also be a "grower". -

You may have jinxed it. That new Stormtrooper helmet looks like it came straight from the rebels or freemaker TV show. -

The Leia looks like a regular printed figure and not the more cartoon like figure you could find in the junior sets. Looks like I can hold off buying the expensive Death Star version now. -
[MOD] Imperial Landing Craft 75221
That Orange Thing replied to Daddy_Stardust's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The joint in the rear wings is a nice touch. I've always felt the original sets wings were a little to stubby in proportion to the rest of the ship and when you sit it next to the other shuttle it makes it more apparent. Could the wings be lengthened a bit more? -
[MOD] Imperial Landing Craft 75221
That Orange Thing replied to Daddy_Stardust's topic in LEGO Star Wars
I think you are downplaying your Mod skills a little too much as this is a really solid upgrade on the original. You managed to come up with a simple solution for covering the gaps that works well along with the cockpit. The landing gear may struggle to hold up over time though as I suspect the clips will eventually snap due to the excess stress of all that weight. I will definitely be checking back in on the thread when I get my shuttle. -
Using a rubber will dull the shine but It's only really noticeable if you hold it up to the light and move it around looking for it. Besides, I try not to rub off printing on expensive parts I might later regret. Does using Brasso dull the plastic to the same degree and could you not get more precision using a dab of Brasso on the end of a cotton bud?

IMG_3454 by That Orange Thing, on Flickr I had a crack at it. Pretty much your choices except I added tan hips to look like a tunic, green gloves and removed the insignia. Not a prefect representation of the original but It's there in spirit.
