    REVIEW: 10219 Maersk Train

Thanks for the review KimT, I haven't had any LEGO trains before but this one is making me really consider starting a collection.

    New BAM Set?

Here is the torso on bricklink. http://www.bricklink.com/catalogItem.asp?P=973pb638c01 1 set in 2010 it seems. £7 is a lot to pay for a BAM box given that they are £3.50 in a LEGO store and you can obviously chose your own parts.

    Container Raffle Build

There are some really nice containers here! Mine is a bit more traditional i'm afraid. Tropic Plants Transporter. This sealed container keeps the plants at just the right temperature and humidity to survive their journey.
  5. Very good as always. My favourites are the clown and Zeus. Zeus in particular looks great! And your nephew's figure is very nice too . Good combination of pieces.

    Elf torso decals

I have been following this thread with some interest. Everything is really nice.. Just had an idea for you in terms of choice of head. I thought the pharaoh head from Series 2 could work well for a high elf or elf mage:
  9. Found my prize on the doorstep when I got home today, thanks again!
  10. The apothecary is lightly mentioned in the Harry Potter books and given no name until the films where a sign depicts it as Slugg and Jiggers. As such i've based it entirely on my imagination! 1) This first picture shows the entire building from a street view. 2) The second picture reveals the hinge mechanism which shows how the steps go down to an underground level common in many victorian houses. 3) Picture three gives an overview of the building from behind. The top level is a disused attic filled with boxes and chests. Notable are the brooms and quidditch balls. The middle floor (with light up brick in action) is a fancy town house, belonging to an old Slytherin student. Finally the basement floor is the Apothecary shop. 4) This picture shows all the details of the middle floor. A Slytherin crest predominates over the fireplace in a sparsley furnished room with a large bookcase and comfortable chair. 5) The final of my five pictures is the shop itself. A potion brews in the central cauldron, while the owner prepares ingredients on a stone slab; powdered unicorn horn. Around the shop are various pre prepared elixiers and potion ingredients. I hope you liked my entry and could see all the features and details reasonably from the photos. A few more close ups are available in my Brickshelf gallery when moderated. Click HERE

  12. I got as far as Mount Vaea as and put that in but it didn't actually give a prize.. The only ones I managed were not treasure island related. Am I missing something with seeing the seven seas prize haul? Just tried 10644 as a skull answer and it doesnt respond?
  13. Did any of the answers have anything at all to do with Robert Louis Stevenson and Treasure Island or was that just one enormous red herring?

Achille, a French frigate carrying 36 guns

A real masterpiece of construction on the prefab hull. Really makes me want to have a proper go at one of these Captain Green Hair hybrid frigates . You should have named this one the Superb!

Winter Break: Slug & Jiggers Apothecary

Looks great, i've actually started building the same thing for my entry. Whether or not i'll finish it is another matter but we have quite a different take on it which is good!
  17. I have to say, very well done on creating this! It's really fun/frustrating trying to get the answers. Just managed EPONYMOUS a little too late!

  19. You may think the pictures didn't do it justice in the competition.. However I had a careful look through the list and when I came across the Achille, wow! I had somehow missed your WIP shots before but I think it is probably my personal favourite LEGO ship even in its unfinished state.
  20. I think LEGO are more wary about giving out minifigure parts than normal parts, because they are the ones which go for big money online.

    Custom British Naval Officer

Looking pretty good I think! I like the hat, but some more details on it might improve the look. As Aalak says, adding a badge would look nice I think. If you have the resources available, then a decal for the body with a cloth overcoat would look best in my opinion.
  22. I think too many of us are put off by the price! Having bought the castle, I can't fork out so much again so soon for another HP set..

    The Admiralty, Whitehall

I was looking through some reference books of 18th/19th Century naval life and came across this picture of the old Admiralty builing in Whitehall, now used as government offices: I really liked the neoclassical look and so I decided to build my own interpretation of it. Instead of using white and red brick, i've used white a grey. I've also condensed the front wall slightly and only displayed the middle entrance to the building. Anyway, enough talking. Here is the overview picture: The streets outside are busy, with gentlemen, naval officers, messengers and even a press gang chasing an unlucky man. Can you spot the french spy? Inside, an admiral stands on the steps beneath the entrance, marked by an anchor. Marines parade to the left White a boy brings a post-captain his horse A few more random shots: Hope you liked it as it was great fun to build, except maybe laying all those hundreds of 1x1 round plates!
