  1. 2019 is here and we've seen this set around since March 2018. Marvel LEGO fans are thrilled when the UCS Hulkbuster is finally announced but when it actually arrived, I sensed hatred more than love towards this LEGO mech. So, please leave your comments whether you agree or disagree of the 10 reasons that I gather from the internet. This set is still available in LEGO.com. 1. BLUE TECHNIC AXLE PIN AWKWARDLY PLACED AT THE SHOULDER. All those red and suddenly a blue technic pin showing at the shoulder is quite awkward in this scenario. Maybe a new red coloured pin can be a better alternative? Or we can substitute this Technic, Axle Pin with Friction Ridges Lengthwise coded 43093 in bricklink with a tan or grey coloured part to make it blend into the shoulder pad better than this basic colour contrast of red and blue. 2. WRONG COLOURED CHEST LIGHT BRICK. The light brick in this set is a great bonus for us all and I understand that LEGO only produce red and yellow light bricks in the past. Why not make a new blue light brick for this iconic set of LEGO mech? I'm sure the exclusiveness of a blue light brick in this set will make this set more popular. 3. RESTRICTED ELBOW MOVEMENT. To make this pose, I had to remove the arm at the elbow, and then place it directly on the shoulder and fortunately it works quite well for the photo . Now if you notice the right arm (the intact one), the gold plate at the outer part of the elbow is blocking the arm to be moved side way as well as the grey round plate at the inner part of the elbow. This actually defied the purpose of the ball joint at the elbow which suppose to make the arm more flexible. 4. WEAK GRIP OF THE HANDS. He is holding the fire extinguisher? Or the fire extinguisher is sitting on his last finger? I would say it was a hard time balancing the red can of powder in his hand. Other than that, I like it that Iron man can sit inside nicely without any stud so that he can be easily taken out from the seat. I'm not a MOCer so I can't really suggest how to make another extra finger for him. Longer finger would help in the grip too I guess. 5. LACK OF KNEE JOINT As you can see, the designers traded the stability of the model with the flexibility of his knees. The long brown technic axle is to be plunged into the lower part of the leg so that the weight of the whole model will be directed straight towards the heel. I think there must be another way out for it to be able to pose better. 6. RESTRICTED HIP MOVEMENT. This pose took me 30 minutes to make it balance. As you can see, i removed the knees, and connected only one of the double click ball joints to the hip. The thigh parts are only resting on the lower legs. Luckily the sole of his foot is wide enough to support the 'running' pose. Modification is direly needed. 7. INSIGNIFICANT GLOW IN THE DARK PIECES. Yes! We have glow in the dark parts in this set! But the proportion of the pieces and the size of the model is not right. More pieces or larger parts would be nice. 8. UNABLE TO STAND UPRIGHT. Look at the ball part between the sole and the lower leg, they are suppose to stabilise the model but the space is a little bit too much so the Hulkbuster is kind of leaning on the respective ball part of the leg instead of standing up straight. 9. TOO SKINNY. Hulkbuster in the movie is very bulky and large to be sturdy enough to fight the Hulk. Here he looks a little bit malnourished. 10. STICKERS! The UCS label sticker is very hard to apply without creating air bubbles. The decals for the model is not very abundant here, why not give us printed ones? Alright, now that we are done with the downside of having this model, but to me as a collector, this set is still a must get to complete my collection of LEGO Hulkbusters. For MOCers, this set provides a good framework for you to do modification for a larger and better Hulkbuster. Other than the model, the platform build is impeccable with large black 8x16 tiles, lots of 2x4 tiles, and the side builds of yellow machine arms. The comparison of 76031, 76104 and 76105 Hulkbusters heads. The prints are very nice gold and they are exclusive to their respective sets. This is my previous review of 76031 and 76104. Mark 43 suit with a transparent head. This looks like an unfinished work of Tony. But the details of the suit is definitely magnificent. This suit is exclusive to this set too. The accessories of the set. Veronica is amazing with the stand. The fire extinguisher is my favourite here as it looks so similar to a real one. A comparison with Smaug. He looks like the gold dwarf statue in the movie. I mean the size. More to compare with old Hulkbusters. The height of them are just at the waist of the UCS version. More buildable LEGO figures. Now Smaug doesn't look that big. Conclusion Despite the bad aspect of the Hulkbuster, I still feel that this is a good buy before it retires. As I mentioned above, there are lots of room to make it a better version of Hulkbuster, so this set can become an official collection, or you can modify it to become a bulkier, more flexible version of a LEGO mech. Review Summary Playability: 6/10 - This model is more of a display model on the platform provided. Playability score actually decreased along with the lack of the ability to pose him properly. Design / Building Experience: 8/10 - The design is very nice but it can be better. Too skinny. Still a high score because it can be a good foundation for MOC. Minifigures: 9/10 - Great minifigure! All the printings and the details are marvelous! But why not put a Tony Stark minifigure as well? Overall: 7.5/10 - This set is still available in store. Get it before it retires. Hope you enjoy the review, do share your thoughts in the comments!
  2. 'Come now, don't be shy, step into the light!' By looking at this line, I think it is clear that I have Smaug the stupendous in this amazing set. He appeared in the movie The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug in 2013. I bought it in Hong Kong while I was traveling with my wife for honeymoon. Lets get started. Overview Name: The Lonely Mountain. Theme: The Hobbit Year: 2014 Pieces: 866 pieces Minifigures: 5 and a dragon Price: £99.99 / $129.99 / 129.99€ Introduction Durin's day is ending and they still can't find the keyhole of the secret door. But Bilbo isn't giving up hope after the sun went down. Knocking and gnawing at the grey stone wall while the dwarves leave the mountain, he finally found the key hole when the moon light shines onto the door. The 'last light' meant the moon light! He yells at the company and Thorin picked up the key left to him by his father Thrain, opens up the secret door and found this treasure in it, 79018. The Box As usual the box art is amazing. The dark green background is very nicely matched with this sand green LEGO set. At the front of the box you can see the battle between the dwarves and Smaug is going on and quite a lot of gold is used in this set. At the back, the dwarves are busy preparing while Smaug sneaks around to find them. Lots of play features in this set and the minifgures are very nice showing at the side of the box. The Instruction This book is thick, with hard binding at the side. There is love and hate to this kind of booklet. The love is there is only one book to keep and the hate of course is that it is hard to stay in place when you are building unless you really fold it at the page turner which is quite damaging to the bindings. In the list, you can only find six dwarves in the whole series unlike the thirteen ones at the previous sets. Maybe the other dwarves were less seen in the movie. The Minifigures In this set, you get five exclusive minifigures and one exclusive Dragon, The Smaug. Before this set was launched, we all thought that LEGO would be lazy enough to use the old castle dragon as Smaug but it turns out that this new mold of dragon is very awesome! In this picture, the head sculpture of Smaug captured all the details very accurately. 'My teeth are sword' and the burning eyes are nicely carved out. These four dwarves and Bilbo gets new armors and new weapons. Dwalin is holding a pearl gold axe with trans green axe, Kili with a 'Morgul Blade', Fili gets back his old double sword and Balin has his dark red club. I suppose the Lonely Mountain really housed loads of treasure for them. All of them has alternate face except Dwalin as he is bald. All the dwarves are angry, Bilbo is truly scared of meeting Smaug. Under the beard. Both of them have nicely printed torso under their bulky beard. The belts are amazingly designed and you can see wrinkles and battle damaged faces of Balin and Dwalin. The arms are also using very nice metalic color to assimilate the armor they are wearing. The comparison between casual wear dwarves and working attired dwarves. Same as Bilbo with three different outfit. The designs are totally different and all of them are from different sets. By looking at them you can appreciate the financial condition of them before and after claiming Erebor. Again, Santa is here and he is very different from Balin. The Dragon, Smaug! 'Take your cover!' Now you can see the full picture of this ferocious beast. The wings are made of silicone (I think) to make the flaps fold. It has two legs with the claws at the wings as his hands just like the movie. I think this is the largest dragon LEGO has ever produced. He stood up to 24 cm tall, 47.5 cm long and 42.5 cm wide. You can see when the wings are closed, he still can stand properly and the claws can be bent to make him more stable on the floor. The body part printing is so detailed that you can see what Girion did back in the years with his black arrow. The wings are attached to his body with a three holed ball joint. This makes him very widely pose-able. You can turn the wings 180 degree each side. He cannot be ride as there are no seat given at the back of the spiky body. However please be careful as the center black spike on a jumper is quite loose and you might lost it. The tail is also exclusive to him and its quite long if you look at it sideway. Lets have some dental check up for this yellow teeth fella. There are a few degree of mouth opening for him and if you look at the picture you can imagine Benedict Cumberbatch's voice talking. All of them represents different expressions I think. First degree- talking, Second degree- yelling, and when the fire attached, you know what he means. haha. Look into the throat, you can see a stud hole for fire attachment which is much nicer compare to old dragons. For comparison, you can see Smaug is much more larger in size compare to the dragon from the castle set 70403. Old dragon has two hands, with a pair of stiff and smaller wings. Tail design is different too and I think Smaug is much more superior than this old dragon of LEGO. Lets look at the mouth. Fire from chin is so much old school but it had its place back then. This is an old picture taken before real Smaug was introduced. Quite decent at that time for a dragon. The Build The gold 'mountain'. This is a three layered build which you can store treasures inside. At the bottom layer, you get a pearl black long sword and a trans green goblet which is very nice, and second layer with three different colored gems. The lid with gold cup makes the third layer. I liked all these gold pieces stacking around each other. There are plenty of nice small builds in this set as in the picture. Thorin's chair was decorated with stickers and a trans clear printed round tile representing the Arkenstone. As comparison, Theoden looks much poorer with a small throne. haha. The second build is the chain pulley pulling a bucket. It was attached loosely to the railway so that it can slide along it. Lots of technic pieces in this build and I like the chain. The brown knob is to turn the wheel and raise or release the bucket of gold. This build is a furnace filled with dome shaped gold and a long pole to be attached into the pin hole. Its a quite large furnace designed to launch piles of molten gold to attack the dragon. As you can see, the furnace can be turned 360 degree to aim. Firstly you load the bucket with gold. Then you raise the bucket. Pour it into the furnace. Then launch the gold! To my pocket please. haha After a few hours of building, this is the full build of The Lonely Mountain. The use of sand green pieces are very nice matched with some grey and brown. This dwarvish mine is very nicely designed and its large enough for Smaug to play around and smacking the pillars. Quite some annoying stickers to be applied but with Smaug and Arkenstone I don't complain much. One more play feature at the front of the build. Stay tuned, the back is also interesting! The black round knob is to push the ladder under the throne. The secret door with a key hole, and a pile of gems with the Arkenstone on top of it. If you notice, on top of the Arkenstone there is a BURP piece to make the bulk of the stone at the front. "Stand by the grey stone when the thrush knocks, and the setting sun with the last light of Durin's Day will shine upon the key-hole" I am FIRE. ConclusionThe Smaug made up the whole value to this set. I bought this because of the dragon and others are a bonus to the set. Smaug is very pose able but need great skill to take good shot of him. Most of the angle makes him look ugly. The build is adequate to the size of the dragon and of course you can buy a few more sets to enlarge it. The minifigures are all exclusive to the set and makes this set much more worthy to get.Review SummaryPlayability: 9/10 - The mechanisms are great to be play with like the actions in the movie while they are fighting the dragon!Design / Building Experience: 9/10 - The GOLD pieces and the sand green pillars are so nicely used in the set instead of all grey like in the movie.Minifigures: 9/10 - Great minifigures! All the printings and the details exceeds all expectations.Price / Value for money: 9/10 - I think the value of the money spent for this set goes to the Serpent from the North. Overall: 9/10 - I bought it in 2014, and after three years, I still bring out Smaug and play with him. Run Bilbo! 'Don't be shy...' Hope you enjoy the review. Please leave your comments towards this set. Thank you.

    Review: 79018 The Lonely Mountain

I'm truly surprised that this set is so pricey now!
  4. Hello, I'm here again presenting my 36th review in Eurobricks. Let's have a look at Dom's Dodge Charger! Before that, I want to thank LEGO for providing us with this set for review. Overview Name: 42111 Dom's Dodge Charger Theme: LEGO Technic Pieces: 1077 pieces Minifigures: 0 Price: £89.99 / $99.99 / 99.99€ Box Square boxes are quite uncommon in LEGO. However, this is actually my first technic set in my life so let's move into it and I'll let you know what's inside. Like usual, the back of the box shows us the play features in the set and we get to see the actual car picture at the top corner. At the side, we can see the actual size of the tyre. The Content We get four numbered bags with smaller same numbered bags so there are 8 bags in total. The instruction booklet is sealed in a plastic bag together with the sticker sheet. The frame and the tyres are not sealed inside the plastics. I've scanned the sticker sheet here in high resolution. The comparison photo of the actual car and a dog. This is found at the back of the instruction booklet and LEGO is trying to tell you they are rebuilding the world. Different version of Dom's Dodge Charger. The parts list. This is quite clear and you can zoom in to see the parts numbers by clicking at the picture and zoom in. This is an 11x15 frame in dark bluish grey with the part number of 6265646. I suppose it is new and currently exclusive to the set. It is still not catalogued in bricklink yet. Tire 56 x 28 ZR Street. 6035364 is a tyre produced in 2001 as seen in the left one. Technic, Shock Absorber 6.5L - Hard Spring. 6027566 is an old part but it is considered a new piece to me as this is my first technic set. It contributes to the suspension of the car making it bouncy. After finish bag one, you will get a set of bones like this. It feels fascinating building technic for the first time. I feel like building a car. (What am I talking about? IT IS A FREAKING CAR!) There is a sticker underneath the frame. I suppose the license is a serious issue here. Technic, Engine Cylinder without Side Slots, 4234251. Going towards bag 2, this appears as the engine part. It is released since 2009 and it is new to me here, haha. Technic, Engine Piston Round, 4112203. This is even older and it comes in blue too since 1990. Okay, 6276854. This one is new and currently exclusive to the set. Quite a nice and versatile piece for some Star Wars ships I think. As I said, this is new to me and I find these pistons build very interesting. After building the second bag, you'll notice the 'steering wheel' is at the back of the vehicle and the pistons of the engine at the front are controlling the rear wheels. Technic, Steering Wheel Large, 4125213. Since 1988. This wheel is useless in the vehicle and it controls nothing. Haha. Technic, Panel Fairing # 2 Small Smooth Short, Side B 4566249 and Technic, Panel Fairing # 1 Small Smooth Short, Side A 4566251. This is an interesting part to me as LEGO is very considerate in putting numbers at the parts so that we won't be confused of the right and left side of the piece. I love this kind of small details LEGO put in. Bag 3 is actually wrapping the front part of the skeleton. I really love the trans clear boat studs coupled with that sticker with the word Charger. The front of the car really looks gorgeous. Bag 4 completes the whole build and this is the rear view of the vehicle. The white California 2JRI424 License Plate is produced as seen on the 1970 Dodge Charger driven by Dominic Toretto. More info. Side view of the Car. I wonder why the technic pin is not 'finished' sticking out the rims. Hmm... It is quite hard to pull the lever inside the car after the hood is installed. It is too narrow inside. The grey technic part at the middle is the lever. Easier when it is still the skeleton phase. The front hood can be opened to reveal the engine inside. I love the look of the engine but imagine if we get chromed parts for this! Okay wake up. The bonnet is filled with 2 bottles of Nitrous Oxide can. I am Groot. *Groot is not included in the set.* Review summary Playability: 6/10 - Yes you can play with the car and as the steering wheel is at the bonnet of the car, it is quite convenient to control the front wheel. Design / Building Experience: 6/10 - The design is very nice at the front and back but please don't view from the top. You'll only see a black rectangle. Minifigures: -/10 - At least give us a minifigure without any hairpiece. Price / Value for money: 6/10 - It is a nice display set for a Fast and Furious fan. Don't display it inside a Koi fish pond (If you know what I mean). Haha Overall: 6/10 - I think this set is only targetted for Fast and Furious fans as normal LEGO fan would only see this as a black car. However building this makes me feels like I'm a real mechanic especially when you build the spring part. Thanks for reading! I hope you like this review. 5. Great news!! Can’t wait for the review!
  6. I started with LEGO CMF series 10 in 2013. I still remember how I search for the iconic distribution picture on the grey baseplate. The easiest and fastest way to do so while I'm feeling the packets at the cashier was to type the legendary name 'WhiteFang'. Google will feed me the image right away. This is how I got to know you and your great informative reviews (and of course poisoned me into collecting CMFs since then, haha). It's truly sad reading this end of the era post. Although there are plenty of other reviews out there, CMFs still need a review with the name WhiteFang on it. Backlog or not, me, as an all time WhiteFang fan, feels that something is missing in any series of CMF without a review by you. Please don't end this era. You gave us a great 10 years of CMF reviews, but we need a lot more.
  7. I've found these interesting post in Eurobricks for your reference if you want to modify the car! 42111 Dom's Dodge Charger MODs and Improvements This video by @kbalage is great too!
  8. Thanks, @brickless_kiwi! I'm not sure that I will pick another Technic set after this. It does look unfinished at some point but it has its aesthetically pleasing views too. Particularly the front view with the Charger wording. I'll try better next time. The completed build is quite durable except for the light bluish grey plates and tiles in front of the headlights. Agreed on the wheels. Thanks, @agrof! I used the wooden pellet found in my in law's balcony. Haha. Hmm... The wheels look different from the real car though. I enjoyed building it as a first timer in LEGO Technic!
  9. Thanks, @Jim! Your pics are never boring and your reviews are top-notch! Thanks, @thekoRngear! I agree with you that Jim's reviews are amazing and very detailed! Thank you @LEGO Train 12 Volts! Thanks, @Mechbuilds! I will work on that and try better in my next review! Thanks for the kind words and constructive comment, @vectormatic (I've deleted the subscribe button). Sorry about that. Thank you very much for the list for improvement, @Erik Leppen! I've screenshot this and I will try to include these points in my next review! I know I'm a first-timer in technic and I'm sure I'll lack in the review so I put a lot of effort in photography to spice up the review so that at least readers can have a better visual of the set. I'm sure this is not a rant but a constructive criticism for me to become a better reviewer in the future! Thanks again, my friend!
  10. Thanks for the kind words! I can't find 6276854 in bricklink so I made that assumption. Thanks for the remark @kbalage. LEGO Medium Stone Gray Wheel 43.2mm D. x 26mm Technic Racing Small with 6 Pinholes (51488 / 56908). ps. I like your facebook page and youtube channel!
  11. Hi, I'm here again presenting my 35th Review in Eurobricks. The Ship In A Bottle! *A quick note. The trans blue plates, dried leaves outside are not included in the set, they are just props throughout the review.* Overview Name: 21313 Ship in a Bottle Theme: LEGO Ideas year 2018 #020 Pieces: 962 pieces (284 of these are trans blue 1x1 plates as the water) Minifigures: 0 Price: £69.99 / $69.99 / 69.99€ Box This is a present that my sister bought from Singapore as shown in the sticker at the lower left corner of the box. The box art is nicely displaying the bottle on a tabletop in a ship with an awesome sunset outside of the window. LEGO Ideas #020 showing that this is the 20th LEGO Ideas set in 2018. Here at the back of the box we can see a kraken chasing the ship and the bottle is landed on the shore. Scale is not quite right but very special and pretty peek through a telescope I think. 1:1 piece was the flag of the ship (no stickers ALL printed). I really love the drawings here. Oh that compass. The content of the box. (I've already built bag 1 before I took this picture.) The distribution of the pieces in the bags are quite neat. Bag1 is the ship, bag 2 trans clear parts, bag 3 water, bag 4 for the base and 4 large trans clear pieces for the top of the bottle. Note that round trans white round dish at the top left corner of bag 4, that's the compass and it is a very nice printed piece. The front page of the instruction booklet is the box art. The Fan design is a bigger bottle compared to the set but it would cost more if the set was that big, so how will you choose? A pricier but bigger bottle or this one will do? (That mosaic human sized tile is not bad at all.) Quite an organised distribution of pieces in bags. This is one special build technique. Pouring the sea water. I love this. Trans Clear parts! LEGO is so amazing that these messy pieces will become a beautiful bottle after they are correctly assembled. Another thing special in this set is to avoid mistakes in the build, LEGO incorporates this 1:1 picture in the instructions for you to check your build. How sweet! This trans clear build is the base of the bottle. They are connected by small parts so it is quite sturdy and hard to remove so try not to make mistake here. Building upwards. Side view of the bottle. Note those four 1x2 jumpers. They are there for the ship to be mounted inside. The top view of the finished bottle. 6002 Trans-Clear Panel 6 x 6 x 9 Corner Convex with Curved Top looks nice as the top part of the bottle. This part is not new but quite rare as it appears in only four sets including this 21313 Ship in a Bottle. I'm so in love with the bottle. The built of the base starting from this brown skeleton. This is a very interesting build as to make the compass look like a bowl, the print of the 44375bpb09 Trans-Clear Dish 6 x 6 Inverted (Radar) - Solid Studs with Vintage Compass Pattern is at the 'wrong' side of the dish quote @makoy. So the studs of this dish are actually at the bottom of the dish. LEGO brilliantly put the yellow 2x2 tiles on two sides of the round plate and invert them like in the picture. Then the build was locked in place using the white 1x4 tile and later covered by the brown plate with quarter circle. I love this unconventional legal build. Masterpiece! This compass is not functional but that gold arrow really add up to the design of the build! This is the part where I'm sold. Turns out the base is even nicer than the bottle itself! The globes are very nice addition to the sides of the base and that arches fitted the bottle perfectly. The word Leviathan is also a very nice print where it carries the meaning of a very large aquatic creature. Any idea why? Turns out that I need to be very careful while 'opening' the bottle to put the ship inside. As you can see here, the top of the mast is actually very close to the 'glass' of the bottle. Extra care is needed to put the ship in and close the top panels. Mesmerizing. That compass lies under the bottle became the 'inner' beauty of the set. The ship is a tight fit in the bottle. You will break the mast trying to push the bar in the plate inside the body of the ship so be extra careful on that. A very nice display set. I really love this very much. Review summary Playability: -/10 - I think it is quite unfair to put this point into consideration in this set. So I'm not counting this in the overall point. You might break something playing with this set. Design / Building Experience: 10/10 - The design is very nice and subtle as a LEGO set. Minifigures: -/10 - No minifigure but I would love a pirate nanofigure in the deck of the ship. Price / Value for money: 9/10 - RM300+ for a set without minifigure. I say the price is for the design of the bottle and the compass. Overall: 9.5/10 - This is a set where non LEGO fan will also like it. My father thought it was a real bottle of wine when I put it on the dinner table! Thanks for reading! I hope you like this review. Do share your thoughts in the comments below!
