Sets designed by Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen

Its probably ok to refer to Kjeld Kirk Kristiansen as 'KKK' since it is fairly unlikely that he goes around dressed in a sheet setting fire to crosses on people's front lawns, or would be mistaken for those that do. He doesn't need to. He has more money than God and can afford good lawyers.

    More classic cars...

Two brilliant Citroen H vans and a Ford Capri! Excellent work. I heard of a guy who swapped the gearbox out of a DS into an H van because he wanted an extra gear. Unfortunately, Citroen being Citroen, one of the engines revolved in the opposite direction than just about every other engine- so he ended up with 5 reverse gears and one forward! I've already seen your excellent DS, by the way, so I have read your posts (probably not all of them- haven't been around that long).

One thing I'd love to see (and I think we'd all love)... is a Lego shop, with PaB wall!

    2012 Friends Discussion Thread

Lego must be selling a fair few pink brick buckets as they are sold by UK supermarket Tesco instore (some other Lego sets are only available from Tesco's via Tesco Direct- ie mail order). Tesco simply won't stock slow moving lines on their shelves- hence their instore Lego lines consist entirely of bestselling sets. So presumably there must be quite a few girls out there with Lego- assuming that pink buckets are not bought for boys. Perhaps we will have to wait a few years for said girls to show up as AFOLs before we can judge how successful that line has been. Personally, while I can see uses for the pale pink bricks, I think most AFOLs would be hard-pressed to come up with a use for the dark pink (cerise) bricks- its such a horrible colour. I hope that TLG comes up with a concept that, whilst appealing primarily to girls, would still be attractive to boy fans of Lego.

    PARIS 1930 (part 2)

J'aime tres bocoup (sp?). Ces't le vrai Paris, n'est pas? That is just about the limits of my Schoolboy French, but this is yet another sensasional Parisienne MOC from some talented builders!

    What are you listening to?

Listening to Talk Talk's jaw-droppingly original album Spirit of Eden. I Believe In You is one of my favourite songs of all time. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BlaZ9RNHaPc&NR=1 Edit- I don't know what the woman in this video is saying, as she is talking in Foreign.

This guy must have had a few tinnies last night. He obviously wasn't looking in the mirror when he applied his lipstick this morning. Apart from that- you're making fantastic progress LT

    REVIEW: CREATOR 5770 Lighthouse Island

What a brilliant review! If you worked for BBC's Top Gear, it would be a programme worth watching.

MOC : Cableway station, Piz Nair 3057m

Outstanding- especially love the windows, the grated curved walkway, and the toilets (including the toilet rolls)! Incredible piece of work. Edit- just noticed the Guinness poster- you have great taste in beer also! Having said that, I think I'd feel somewhat queasy if I'd had a skinfull of Guinness and had to descend the mountain by cablecar!

The late, the great, the immortal Ian Dury- What a Waste (could be the story of my life).

    Post pictures of your pets!

Beware of cats adopting that pose. It translates as 'Pleeeeeease tickle my tummy so I can rip your arm to shreds'. Then it'll take a dump in one of your favourite shoes. I don't trust cats. Cats are usually psychotic and/or neurotic. And don't think that the half-dead mice it brings you are a 'present'- half-dead mice are a sort of kitty voodoo fetish.

The Integration of Trains & Boats

An interesting integration of trains and boats was the Weymouth Boat Train which had to run the final part of the journey along tram lines set into the street (note that the train itself was a full-sized loco hauled train). Here is a picture- http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:33109_Weymouth_Harbour_Tramway_August_1981.jpg. I think the bloke hanging out of the doorway was actually meant to walk in front of the train- which proceeded at a crawl (or was supposed to). Note the bell on the front of the Class 33 to warn anyone suffering from some kind of hearing loss that prevented them from hearing the noise of a Sulzer diesel! Edit- could someone explain to me how to include web links? For some reason this site always shortens them so they don't work anymore.

    Sound Bricks

Wonder if they'll ever produce train-specific sound bricks? It is already possible to get sound chips for 00 scale model trains (although these need an additional small speaker I think) that replicates the sound made by specific locos (eg starting, idling, accellerating, etc) which actually change in accordance to what the loco is doing. Now that would be far too ambitious for a sound brick to accomplish, but it might be possible to have generic 'chuff chuff' steam engine noises- would work for simpler sets like the Toy Story train.

A native speaker of English needed

We can all swim- all of us can swim doesn't sound right. I couldn't quote the rules of English grammar (I found that an exceedingly dull subject at school) but I am a native speaker so I generally know what looks and sounds right without knowing the reasons why!

    What are you listening to?

Sounds like inspiration for a peculiar MOC? I've a tendency to play Portishead in the car- and given that few of the cars I've ever owned feature air con (and on only one of them did it actually work) I have been observed with the windows wound down at traffic lights singing Portishead's Glory Box... 'Give me a reason to be-eeeeeee a woman'... Bear in mind that I am not of that gender, and traffic lights in my country can stay red for ages... but they don't glow red nearly as long as I do when I realised I've been clocked... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GxsopQLZpCI

    MOC: Mercedes Shell truck

I do like that. In the UK the majority of fuel tankers tractors are by MAN, since they took over British truckmakers ERF who were the previous favourite, since the rules governing fuel transporters here dictates specialised modifications- for example, a front mounted transverse underslung exhaust. There are quite a few Scanias about. I have seen Merc tankers in continental Europe, as well as a pair of them in Calais used for refuelling ferries.

    MOC - New Mannum Ford

How about a battery charger with battery being charged? Could use non-Lego thin guage wire for the cable (speaker cable or stripped from a non-functioning small electonic item).

The Integration of Trains & Boats

Why not use a pump to circulate the water and create movement that way? Admittedly, the movement would be a bit random, but if you put an island in the middle (brick built- with bridges) you could create a sort of one-way system. Might even be possible to build a functional PF powered boat with an internal chain-drive to the propeller and axles to distance the motor from any water ingression.

    MOC - New Mannum Ford

A trolley jack would be essential as a minimum, and axle stands too if you can work out a good way to make them without being too chunky. Don't forget a centrefeed wallmounted blue paper dispenser- these are usually found in garages.
