General Pirates of the Caribbean Theme Discussion Thread
punkkid364 replied to Oswald the Rabbit's topic in LEGO Pirates
In the dealer catalog, the Pearl and QAR have the same box dimensions, so it's pretty safe to say they'll be about the same size, if LEGO is consistent in the amount of empty space in the boxes. I'm really hoping we don't get the undead version; shredded black sails are a lot less useful than plain black sails. I'll bet that if we get Pintel and Ragetti, they'll be in this set. I have a feeling that the Pearl will show up in the fourth film, though maybe not in the way we expect. I mean, why would Jack Sparrow sneak onto Blackbeard's ship to steal a ship in a bottle unless it was HIS ship in that bottle? -
How does the POTC theme fit into your world?

I think I'm in the minority here, but Jack Sparrow is pirate king in my world. Other pirate sets and parts will now go towards POTC building. I've already started building fleshie figs to populate ships. -

It would be film-accurate to do so! -

Things I noticed include the '09 soldier's torso in London Escape (is that prelim, or will it be final?) a skeleton face on Jack in the Isla de Muerta set and, of all things, the old school feather in Angelica's hat. Shame about the weird zombie pirate faces being in every set...I wonder if that will make more sense once we see the new movie. Overall, the sets look very nice, even better than the leaked pictures made them out to be. May cannot come soon enough! -
I was thinking about this today. TLG seems to shy away from associating their factions with real countries, so maybe the Endeavour is more likely, since they could have it flying an EITC flag rather than the British flag. Maybe I'm wrong, but it seems to fit.

In addition to those ideas, I'd like to see some sets from the third film, since there aren't any coming out yet. Maybe the Hai Peng (the junk used to get to Davy Jones' Locker) and something from the Brethren Court. There are too many cool pirates there (READ: KEITH RICHARDS) to not have minifigs of them. I can see TLG putting out a "Blacksmith Duel" set from the first film.

I think all the sets look fantastic! I can't stop looking at them. I agree with whoever said that the Dead Man's Chest should be black. Looking forward to photos of London Escape and the Pearl! -

AFAIK, the Pirates timeline, including OST, takes place between 1720 and 1750, after both the running aground of the QAR and the death of the historical Blackbeard in 1718. So I don't think historical accuracy is on Disney's plate (and TLG's, by extension, since their designs are based on what's in the film.) Awesome Jurassic Park reference, BTW. -

I'm really hoping that the Black Pearl is more dark brown than black. I think it's a more accurate color according to the films. The Lego black is just TOO black, in my opinion. I want to see some pics of it before the other sets come out, so I can decide whether to go for the QAR or wait (impatiently) for November. -

I think I would actually kind of like that...I have tons of redcoats from the 2009 line, so I could carry them over with a switch to fleshie hands and faces. I think I still might use them anyway, since soldiers don't appear to be in many of the sets. EDIT: After thinking about it, if TLG decides to go with the cursed crew of the Pearl, wouldn't it be cool if they included some non-shredded sails so we could have the other version of the ship? Just a thought. -

There's some really cool stuff in those pictures. I can't wait to see some better photos, with the final minifigs. The QAR looks a lot better than I thought it would. -

The problem I see with POTC as a theme is that so much of the action, at least in the first three movies, takes place aboard ships. Sure, there are a few land locations, but the big scenes that take place in those locations are already being made into sets. We can hope for Port Royal with a Governor's Mansion and everything, but it's far more likely we'll get a "Blacksmith Duel" set or something similar in an upcoming wave. But back to the problem with ships; it leads to like 5 or 6 $100+ sets. Think of all the beautiful ships that can be made, and to even get close to what they look like in the films will require massive sets. We know about QAR and the Black Pearl, and that they're the largest sets in the theme. How much more room in that upper price range is there? Room for another $100 Flying Dutchman? A $200 Endeavour or Dauntless? More than one of those? If we get a ship of the line, I'm betting we'll see ONE. The Endeavour OR the Dauntless OR the Interceptor OR the HMS Providence. They all look too similar to really justify all those sets. For me, I'd really like to see like a $60 Hai Peng (the junk that was used to go to Davy Jones' Locker in AWE,) just for variety's sake, and maybe the Jolly Mon (Jack's stolen boat from COTBP,) Or Jack's dingy from the last scene in AWE. I want the Interceptor to be priced right about $80 (like the old smaller ships LEGO used to make) so you can buy 2 or 3 to make a bigger ship. But again, every set is just going to be ships, unless TLG gets really creative with set designs in this theme really quickly. Does anyone have any predictions for the minifigs in the Black Pearl set? How sweet would the "rescue" crew from Pirates 3 be? Jack, Barbossa, Will, Elizabeth, Pintel, Ragetti, Gibbs, Marty, Cotton, and Tia Dalma. And maybe some awesome Chinese pirates. That's a lot of figs for one set, though, and I doubt we'll see Pintel or Ragetti, or Cotton or Marty. Shame, really, they're all such great characters. OT: Long time lurker, but being excited about this theme got me to register and post!
