*POSSIBLE SPOILERS* He has TAKEN the Pearl...Blackbeard appears to collect ships, hence all the bottles in the Captain's Cabin set. He is for about a minute in Dead Man's Chest, and again in the brig with Tia Dalma in At World's End...not really enough to justify him in the set, but you never know. -

The two in Whitecap Bay are Scrum (in the hat) and Philip (in black). The tan tricorne guy is the QAR's cook. -

I found this interesting: (from here) Does this mean that piece is two parts after all? -

Is this something they're allowed to do? I know that with Star Wars stuff, they have to wait until the day Lucasfilm says before they can release it; it's like that with video games too. It's curious that Disney wouldn't give them a "do not sell before" date, especially with one of their bigger franchises. I, however, hope they DO come out in April, because I'm impatient. -

I'm not so sure that this is a completely fair criticism. If you look at the plots, Dead Man's Chest was really about having everyone's motivation point towards the chest. Every scene in the movie is to set up those characters to want the chest so that the finale can play out the way it does. It's a character piece, not a plot piece. At World's End is a mess because it's about 15 or 20 minutes shorter than it should be. That movie got totally butchered in editing. The finished film only really touches on the story points, as it races from one thing going on to the next, trying to weave all the different stories together, but it doesn't really work because there's not enough there, and things just get abandoned halfway through. They also didn't really have time to react to the audience's reaction to the complex storytelling in DMC. I've long been a reader of Ted Elliot and Terry Rossio's website (the screenwriters), and those guys simply know TOO MUCH about storytelling to produce a jumbled mess like that. As far as the series overall goes, the plots and character motivations may be SIMPLE, but that doesn't make them BAD. I really hope (and it really seems, when reading interviews, etc.) that the powers that be learned from AWE what will and won't work in terms of plots and complex story lines and structure. It looks like On Stranger Tides will be a lot more streamlined than the previous sequels, and a lot more like the first film. Sorry for the semi-off-topic-ness of this post. On topic, today's minifig: The Gunner Zombie? Man, is that a terrible name or what? -

Make it an MOC and show it off! On topic though, the last POTC sets in that other line came out four years ago, like you said, with At World's End. I don't think it will cause much of a problem. TLG now has the rights to make sets from all the POTC movies, so if you want the new ones, get them, and if you have the old ones and like them (unlikely, but whatever) don't. It's not a critical decision. -
Now that's what I call a baked potato!

I think CallMePie nailed a lot of the sets we'll get, minus any from the fourth film.

It's got 800-something pieces, which is almost three hundred more than BB. That's enough to get the SHAPE of the ship in the game, if not the detail. It's certainly enough to have a closed cabin (BB does) and possibly a second deck, though again not with the detail of the IFS, or the Black Pearl in the game. Everyone complains about licensing costs, but I find that, in most cases, it's bunk. Sets are more expensive across the board these days, not JUST in licensed themes. -

I'm so glad they realized that having a couple of different Jacks is a good idea. How long did it take to get an alternate Indy? -

Right. All the figs on the site are accounted for in the pics we've already seen: (L to R, T to B) Jack (plain) Blackbeard cannibal 1 Will Hadras Jack (cannibal) Phillip zombie guy 1 (Captain's Cabin, QAR) carriage driver (London Escape) cannibal 2 soldier (London Escape) Jack (skeleton) royal guard (London Escape) Barbossa (pirate) mermaid 1 Elizabeth Barbossa (skeleton) Norrington pirate (Scrum? Whitecap Bay) Barbossa (Navy) Jack (coat + hat) mermaid 2 Angelica zombie guy 2 (Captain's Cabin, QAR, Whitecap Bay) pirate (tan hat QAR) zombie guy 3 (QAR) Gibbs I'm not sure about the placement of some of these, like Will Gibbs and Phillip all have the same hairpiece, two of the zombies are bald, and the two pirates with tricornes could be reversed, but they're all accounted for. -

Maybe this is crazy, but after reading that the Black Pearl is only going to be 800 pieces, I started amassing parts to do a Captain Green Hair-styled rebuild of it. Of course, I can't do TOO much until we actually see the ship, but the wheels are turning in the old noggin already. These sets are taking FAR too long to come out! -

I think the problem isn't details (to quote Monty Python, "Look at the BONES!") but that it's missing the RIGHT details, or IMPORTANT details. -

The thing is that Disney has hired Terry Rossio to write a script for Pirates 5, but he himself says: (originally posted on keeptothecode.com)Temper all that skepticism with "But they HAVE a script underway." Also, 4 is costing some 100 million less than 3, and will probably make just as much money, so there's no real worries on the financial front. I for one would love for them to keep making them as long as Johnny Depp wants to and they remain entertaining. EDIT: I finally found the quote I was looking for. -

And some that we did eventually get are really different from how they appear in the game (I'm looking at you Ki-Adi Mundi. You were not ugly in the game!) -

I bet, seeing as how it's based on DMC, that we'll get the scruffy Norrington from the Mill set instead of Marty or Cotton. If Pintel and Ragetti are going to be in a set, it's got to be this one. Wooden eye FTW. Also, you've got them backwards. Ragetti has the wooden eye and Pintel is the "belligerent homunculus." -

How about some faith there? I'm sure that, based on the rest of the line, the Black Pearl will not disappoint. And if it does, well, there are over 4000 parts available in black so we can mod to our hearts' content. Cap'n Jack put it best when he said of the Black Pearl: "Granted, it tends to list to port, and has been on occasion known to frighten young women. But I promise you, you will not be disappointed." -

I'm a little disappointed that the Black Pearl is going to be a smaller set than the QAR, but at that price I can afford a couple to make a really nice one, where at a higher price point I may not be able to. I don't see DAvy Jones coming with it, since he spends about 30 seconds on the Pearl in both Dead Man's Chest and At World's End. What's more likely is that the Dead Man's Chest reference means that the ship is NOT the cursed version, will not have Barbossa, and MAY come with some Kraken tentacles or battle damage play features or something like that. As I see more pictures, I really only have one real annoyance with anything in this line: Jack's enormous hat. If the hat and hairpiece are all one, why is that hat as giant as it is? I understood it when I thought that it fit over the hairpiece, but now I just think it's too big. Has anyone seen the back of the "hatless" Jack hairpiece or the Will/Gibbs hairpiece? It looked in one of the prelims like it might have a little ponytail. I also wonder if I can get one of those baldrics under Jack's hair. -

The Pearl should be about the same size as the QAR, as far as size and scale go. What I'm hoping for in it is detail, like to the level of the recent IF. -

I think that the Black Pearl should be the flagship set (no pun intended) of this line; it's like the Millennium Falcon. If they're releasing it, it should be the biggest set. The only thing I don't like about these sets is the exclusion of Davy Jones (though I don't want him shoehorned into a set in which he doesn't fit either, like they sometimes do with Star Wars) -
I can imagine all the people carrying these out of stores singing "I've got a jar of dirt, I've got a jar of dirt..."

The Black Pearl was originally called the Wicked Wench (which, btw is the name of the pirate ship on the ride) that Jack was given to sail by the EITC. It was sunk by Beckett and Jack branded a pirate because he released his "cargo" of slaves. That's when Jack made his deal with Davy Jones to get the ship back. I mean, if a man is willing to sell his soul for a ship, what isn't he willing to do? I don't think that the writers would leave a big plot hole like "the Pearl is just gone" especially when getting it back has been one of the major motivations for Jack's character. The only time he's willing to let it go is when he has to choose between it's destruction and being eaten by the Kraken.
