[MOD/MOC] A New Generation - Resistance X-Wing Microfighter - 75125
BigEl posted a topic in LEGO Star Wars
When I saw the first pictures/videos of the new T-70 X-Wing I was kinda disappointed. We would get another redesigned X-Wing for the new trilogy which design changes didnt looked convincing in my opinion and bothered me. But after I saw the movie, looked at pictures and comparisons as well as some amazing Lego designs by users here in the forum, I started to like the new generation of X-Wing to the point were I actually even prefer it over the old design. Since we still have to wait some months to get a standard X-Wing Lego system scale version of the T-70 model, I went for the microfighter version and immediately knew I had to modify it (to the point that its maybe even a MOC considering how small the original is and how low its part count is) since I wasnt really satisfied with its build that lacked the unique wing design, had a stubby central body and the typical possibilty to seat a minifigure in it. Changes: - Longer central body - Wings that fold together and split appart in the correct way - Full Cockpit - Astrodroid behind the cockpit as well as engine details - overhauled base construction and colourization I am very satsfied with the way the wings worked out. The design includes the very specific differences compared to the old X-Wing with the color, engines and wings. Its not perfect since the wings overlap like the original system scale version and the body is too thick in the central part, but in this scale I had to make compromises. And now to some actual pictures as well as a picture from the original to compare to. Would like to hear some feedback from you guys Updated/final version: _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ And the original build: -
[MOD/MOC] A New Generation - Resistance X-Wing Microfighter - 75125
BigEl replied to BigEl's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Thanks. Well there could still fit a minifig inside if you would remove the brick and plate that the trans-clear cockpit parts are connected to. But I am not really a fan of that microfighter idea and prefer the approach of a realistic design that is scaled down. Small and final update on the build: Much more sleeker and with some adjustments in the colourization (nose, blue stripe on the hull, droidhead is now silver instead of the flashy white) as well as some company for the pilot minifig -
What're your favorite and least favorite Star Wars minifigures?
BigEl replied to Darthking623's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Ok the idea struck me after I got a new set today with a fantastic minifig and since we already started a "favorite set" thread already, why not go for one dedicated to minifigs as well? Making a Top 5 or 10 or whatever including set/year of the specific minifig and why its one of your favorite was the idea I go for a Top 5 since I only have around 2 dozens of minifigs: 1. Boba Fett (2015/UCS Slave1) - Greatest SW Set with the greatest SW Minifig to me. Outstanding and ridiculously fine printing detail with a used look and lots of shiny silver, including arm and toe printing as well as great accessories. Just spot on for the character and I will forever love that freakin Helmet design! 2. Darth Malgus (2012/Sith Fury Interceptor) - What makes Malgus beyond "standard" minifigs is definitely his unique armor/respirator that fits the head as well as the narrow cape perfectly and even has very detailed printing that fits the printing of the body underneath. On top of that the fine leg printing is super crisp. All in all this figure just feels very unique and has a very fitting menacing vibe. 3. General Veers (2014/AT-AT) - Well this one is definitely bias as you can probably tell by my profil-pic He is not as detailed and breathtaking as the other 4 in the list, but I always liked his character most out of the empire officers. Nevertheless, he is a unique figure with his very own torsoprint (love the general combat suit with the rank on the chest) and helmet as well as a great head that includes a headset detail. 4. 41st Elite Corps Trooper aka Kashyyyk Scout Clone Trooper (2013/Kashyyyk Troopers Battlepack) - The camo print on this guy is truly a sight to behold. Its on par with the ridiculous level of detail found on ucs boba fett and he is even better than the standard kashyyyk Camo Clone Trooper because he gets a unique helmet that screams Episode 3 - Battle of Kashyyyk (Even like the minifig more than Commander Gree, who has a spectacular Helmet in Silver/Green but a torso print I found a bit underwhelming in comparison) 5. Resistance X-wing Pilot aka Snap Wexley (2015/Resistance X-Wing Microfighter) - Two reasons: 1. Mindblowing helmet with 2 different plastic types (white helmet and transyellow visor) and superfine and impressive printing that nearly goes all around. 2. The "classic" X-Wing overall/jumpsuit we know and love since "A New Hope" evolved with a very realistic and serious type of printing and color choice. The printing is just amazing and goes trough hips and legs to create a nice and complete look. (Choose this one over the FO Tie Fighter Pilot because its just more colourful and interesting to look at despite the groundbreaking new Helmet for the TIE Pilots with the Hose) -
Love the duel scenery you created in the pictures. Looks very fitting

Well apart from the dropping wings and the lackluster backside there is really nothing about the set to criticize in my books. That the retail price is really good compared to other SW Sets and the building experience is fun and challenging are just the icing on the cake

As far as I am concerned there was no problem with the different opinions of people here in the thread. Go trough the pages again but I am pretty sure noone got "assaulted" for their opinion on this set. And then read Beckmessers Post again. I responded to him because it was the first post here that was agressive and unreasonable towards the ones that dislike this set (doesnt matter to me if thats the majority or minority)

Here are my top 5: 1. UCS Slave 1 - Easily the best one. Everything about it is just spectacular, could look at it every day and still be impressed 2. TFA Millenium Falcon - Very good base build and huge modding potential. Iconic as hell and just great to finally have it after wanting it forever as a kid 3. AT-AT - Close to the Falcon in terms of iconic status and the main body has an oustanding build. Would be better if the head wouldnt be as bad and inaccurate as it is out of the box 4. TFA Tie Fighter - A real no brainer. Nearly perfect lego interpretation of an iconic yet somewhat simple design 5. AT-AP - A lot better than expected. Looks impressive from the front and has good modding potential

@Beckmesser You sound pretty salty about the amount of critique thats coming towards the set. Cant stand that Lego fans dont hype up yet another overprized and underwhelming set to heaven like many of them do a lot of times? Its obvious that you havent read the critique and if you did you probably just read what you wanted to read. And judging by our agressive tone its probably pointless to even argue with you. Btw: Who cares about a Tauntaun or a Wampa that already exist or a white protocol droid. Those minor elements by themselves are not what make a big set like this great...

Post your general LEGO Star Wars questions here
BigEl replied to XimenaPaulina's topic in LEGO Star Wars
Guys I dont know if I should buy the Sith Fury Class Interceptor... I love the design, minifigs are great and all... but its soo freakin expensive for what you get (relatively small sized in scale). Retail price here in germany is 100 Euros and as of now I could get it for 94. I guess its nice that you can still get it for a "normal" price more than 3 years after Release, but that normal price feels so over the top... I am really torn about this, so please say something to either foritify my wish to buy it or diminish it so I can feel better not doing it -
Oh yeah no I understand why, its just.... what I meant to say was: I am just shacking my head in disbelief that Lego suggests this set for young kids... or actually, since its too expensive as a playset and not good enough as a display/collectors set, shacking my head in disbelief that Lego suggests this set for anyone really

Hey man, great review and actually funny, just like the last one. 10 WHOLE PIECES cracked me up as well as how you actually pretty accurately described the, lets say, interesting box design... I mean, soundwaves? Seriously? Its a nice example of how Lego is fooling everyone standing in stores with their oversized, meaninglessly high detailed boxes into buying their products Might explain why Lego is just so expensive in general. You damn well pay for that nice box too, regardless if you use it for display or basement storage afterwards The set itself: Too expensive, too insubstantial (A Cantina set without the cantina?) and I personally only like the Stormtrooper Minifigs, which are indeed magnificent!

I am just shacking my head in disbelief when people say this is targeted for young kids... I dont know about you guys but when I was a kid I only got sets for 70 - 100 bucks tops, how would parents ever say yes to such a set that costs this absurdly much while basically being and looking like a combination of several small sets. I can see that a lot of parents will just say the 2 magical words "too expensive" to their kids and buy them a battlepack or something of the size of Reys Speeder instead. Also, how many kids are even so big into the OT that they just want to have this set anyway instead of all the cheaper Rebels Sets that are based on a running TV show? So, not only is the design, price and UCS label a problem in my eyes, but also the circumstances and context in that this set is released. I just have to assume Lego saw "the problems" in a similar and thought the UCS Label was going to be the only saving grace to get this Set sold to people who are heavily into collection.

Even better than the already awesome version by lego (obviously) Personally I´m not that much into interior designs for ships, only when it looks nice to display with and this one certainly qualifies for that Man Lego just has to make another Tantive IV for the upcoming ANH Anniversary, they sell the original one for prices that can compare to the UCS Millenium Falcon

This is the one and only way how to properly display great looking Lego Star Wars sets Superb collection that looks even better in this stunning room

Wow nice work with the data. Of course its not always about the flat priece per part ratio (some sets have parts that are more expensive/valuable than others and some sets have more printed pieces or new molds), but since I think that even 10cents per part is too much in general, its interesting too see how few lego star wars sets stayed below it. NOW it would be interesting to compare the star wars theme with other themes over the last years, especially Lego City!

[MOC] Star Wars Battlefront - Battle on Sullust
BigEl replied to markus1984's topic in LEGO Star Wars
The Battle of Sullust diorama is spectacular. The environmental contrast between the cliffside, plateau and the lava stream as well as the seamlessly integrated bunker entrance are fantastic. But the coolest thing to me is how you did the jetpack using rebel soldiers. Spot On- 48 replies

The answer is simple: Its not just about the amount of parts! The Ewok Village had several things going for it that made is as good as it was. 1. It was completely new in design and what it represented. 2. It combined display quality and playability in a perfect way 3. It was (almost) one single complete build, not a bunch of medium/small sized builds. If you like Legos standard procedure of modular Set lines that focus around specific themes or not, an UCS/ Huge playset like this should focus and center around 1 thing (The Death Star UCS playset was the same), else it just feels and functions like a superpack of common small sets. 4. The Ewok Village as an UCS Set perfectly captures the essentail theme of his name/intention. The Assault on Hoth Set is a terrible set in terms of its "Assault" and it doesnt work as a general Hoth Echo Base either because it misses the Base itself. It tries to be a generel Hoth Theme (Echo Base, Assault and Scouting/Wampa Scene), and therefore doesnt do any of the possible scenes/aspects of Hoth justice.

Thats definitely a nice mechanism built into the fighter. Who would have thought that the A-Wing would have the potential to become the star of the set EDIT: Scratch what I said, in this video you can see that the rubber band construction is for the spring loaded shooters. You can move the central part of the ship backwards to shoot:

Woah calm down. I dont want to defend anybody, but I think its ultimately not the designers choice how Lego Sets get marketed (When it comes to being UCS or not as well as the amount of content and price) but one the Lego Company does itself.
-
Actually funny since I got the AT-AT on Amazon 2 - 3 weeks before it retired for its normal prices or even a small discout. The day it retired the price went up from 110 - 120 to 200 Euros instantly (similar story with the TFA Millenium Falcon though)

Hey I like it very much! Even though the new X Wing is getting a lot of attention lately, your design is still very unique because of well shapef front slope of the nose/hull that closes up with the canopy. Makes it maybe a bit too shubby, but I see the difficulty one can have in this scale with that (The version from Lego looks more sleek with the flat design, but its simply less accurate). The canopy itself looks a bit misplaced as well because it 4 stud long on the front end instead of 2 studs (so it would go smoothly into the tiled center slope). Wings look very good too. Only thing I personally dont like as a design choice are those 1 x 2 Tiles with 1 center stud as part of the laser cannons. But yeah, well done overall!

Thank you. Nice to see that at least the Minifigures live up to the Sets. Poe and Lor San Tekka are great and make a nice line up for the X-Wing Set. Also very nice Jedi with impressive torso prints as well as a great Teedo Head Mold! If we would have gotten an exact copy of Darth Vader from the Final Duel Set, the TIE VS A-Wing Set would have been so much more interesting for me. Unfortunately I dont like the new torso print one pit and they just scratched the leg print again?
-
Yes you are right, forgot to mention those since I always automatically would replace playfeatures like that Regarding the AT-TE: Man that thing looks even more miscoloured than the luggabeast. So many bright and flashy colours mixed in that it looks like a playing ground for children Dont know if that is supposed to be like that (dont watch those animated shows), but if so then how would anybody like that "design"?!
-
I think it looks pretty good. The only parts that look wrong or at least very weird (besides the black wheel thing on the top and the blue rubber bands instead of LBG or white ones) are the curved slope pieces around the engines with the blue stickers on it. Lego should have brick built the blue stripe behind the dark bluish gray one. At least that would be a fairly small and simple modification so the Resistance X-Wing is still the most interesting for me. Besides that the TIE Advanced vs A-Wing is interesting, but I just dont know. It just doesnt feel new and interesting, the design and the colours of the A-Wing are pretty nice but the amount of stickers is horrendous...
-
Well thats the thing. Not only is the cold price per part very bad, but also the price for what you actually get. The third picture illustrates it perfectly that this set contains of 2 - 3 medium size builds while the rest of them are small and pretty insignificant. How in the right mind someone thought this would ever be worth 250 dollars/euro is completely ridiculous to me, even for Lego standards.
