Most likely new licensed themes of 2012

Thanks! You're right, I remember looking at The Avengers but forgot to add it to my list. The Avengers is up there with the Lone Ranger as a top contender IMO, even though personally I'd rather not see it become a LEGO theme. Just doesn't interest me at all. The Hobbit probably won't come out in theaters until at earliest 2013. Good catch. I totally overlooked The Dark Knight Rises. If 2011 is the last year for Harry Potter sets (not sure if it is?) then it makes sense that a revival of the Batman theme will happen in 2012. Based on the comments, I'd say that the following 3 movies are the most likely (of the ones listed above) to become LEGO licensed themes: 1) The Dark Knight Rises (Batman) 2) The Avengers 3) Lone Ranger (Western)
  3. List of the movies releases coming out in 2012 (or December 2011) most likely to see a LEGO licensed theme. 1) Brave (set in mythic Scotland) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brave_%282012_film%29 2) John Carter of Mars (Martian theme) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/John_Carter_of_Mars_%28film%29 3) The Lone Ranger (Western Theme) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lone_Ranger_%282012_film%29 4) Unbound Captives (Western Theme) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unbound_Captives 5) National Treasure 3 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/National_Treasure_%28franchise%29#National_Treasure_3_.282011.29 6) Clash of the Titans (set in mythical Ancient Greece) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Clash_of_the_Titans_%282010_film%29 Which would you like to see created into a LEGO theme? Me, I'd love Clash of the Titans. We'd finally have a theme set in Ancient Greece! Sadly, this is also the theme least likely to happen since it is not Disney and the first movie was PG-13. Not a kid friendly movie I guess, which obviously isn't good since LEGO is a toy mostly marketed toward kids. If I had to guess, I'd say The Lone Ranger is the front runner...

    Ancient Theme

Of course I'd love for LEGO to release an Ancient theme. However, the more I MOC with Price of Persia, the more I'm loving the flesh minifigures and all the extra detail that comes with a license theme. Now I'm hoping TLG releases more license themes set in historic settings like Ancient India, Greece, Rome or China.

    Favorite Adventure Subtheme

I voted for India Orient Expedition. It was between India and China. I'd love to create a whole India ancient civilization in LEGO and without sets like Scorpion Palace, it's rather difficult. Now with the new Pharaoh's Quest theme it gives me hope that one day Jake Raines will continue his adventure in India!

    Your dream Lego theme

I've never been into Stargate. However, the fact that it has an Ancient Egypt element is enough for me to support it as a future LEGO theme. Four words.... flesh minifigures & Ancient Egypt! Hopefully, if Hollywood follows through on the planned Stargate sequels, we'll see LEGO Stargate. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stargate_%28film%29 To get ancient Chinese flesh-colored minifigures, how about LEGO license the movie: "The Forbidden Kingdom". http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Forbidden_Kingdom

Which is better, Star TREK or Star WARS?

I'm not a huge fan of any of them. Here's how I'd rank them: 1)Stargate 2)Star Wars 3)Star Trek The Ancient Egypt element in Stargate is enough for it to claim the top position.

    Historical theme wishlist

A return of Western is better than 80% of other themes LEGO has released, just not my cup of tea. Probably not exotic enough for me. My top are: Ancient India Ancient China Ancient Greece Ancient Egypt Ancient Rome Ancient Babylon Others Ancient historical civilizations that LEGO could make a go of AND I'd be interested in buying are: Persians, Incas, Mayan, Aztec, Japan, Cambodia, Zulu, Israel, Mongolian, Assyrian, Tibet, Phoenicians, and Hittites. We'll see in 2012 if TLG thinks as I do and comes out with either a Greek theme...in time for the 2012 Olympics or a Mayan theme...in time for the 2012 Mayan calender hype.

    Best Theme Ever?

If Prince of Persia included well-designed shields for the soldiers and more sets with actually Persian inspired buildings like the Battle of Almut set (as opposed to vehicles or random scenes from the movie, example: Ostrich race) then Prince of Persia would for sure be my favorite theme. However, with only 6 sets and only two sets including decent size "Persian inspired" structures it is hard to rank it higher than the Castle theme...my theme from childhood. List of my favorite themes: Classic Castle (and the new Kingdoms) Prince of Persia Orient Expedition Indiana Jones Adventurers Pharaoh's Quest Right now, out of those, I only have sets from Prince of Persia and Castle. Plan to buy the Pyramid from Pharaoh's Quest. I'd probably only buy a couple select favorite sets from the other themes if they were ever made available again for a reasonable price.

    Your Minifigure Set

I'd like LEGO to release an 1)Ancient Civilizations Collectible minifigures set which includes: 2 Egyptian soldiers 2 Roman soldiers 2 Ancient India soldiers 2 Chinese soldiers 2 Babylonian soldiers 2 Hoplite Greeks 2 Assyrian soldiers 2 Hittite soldiers 2 Inca soldiers 2 Aztec soldiers 2 Mayan soldiers and 2)World Religions Collectible minifigures set which includes: Buddhist Monk Franciscan Monk Trappist Monk Cistercian Monk Benedictine Monk Russian Orthodox Bishop Jewish Rabbi Orthodox Jewish man Pope Buddha Hindu Priest Dalai Lama Catholic Nun Lord Krishna or other Hindu god Anglican Bishop Islamic leadership Protestant Minster Televangelist Shinto Priest 2 Swiss Guards Catholic Cardinal

More archaeological themes / Exotic global locales

If I can't find it on sale, I'll probably just buy one and construct the rest of the pyramid from bricks using pick a brick. Don't have any Spartans. I wasn't impressed with that minifigure or the shield that came with it. And the hassle of trying to obtain it wasn't worth it. I'm holding out hope for a Hoplite Greek army. The Top Ancient Civilizations I'd love for LEGO to release are: 1) Ancient India 2) Ancient China 3) Ancient Greece 4) Ancient Egypt (probably won't ever see that with the recent release of Pharaoh’s Quest) 5) Ancient Rome 6) Ancient Babylon I also wouldn't mind seeing Ancient Persians, Incas, Mayan, Aztec, Carthage, Japan, Cambodia, Zulu, Ethiopia, Israel, Mongolian, Franks, Gauls, Celts, Visigoths, Assyrian, Phoenicians, and Hittites.

New Castle/Historical themes to replace the Fantasy theme.

Like that idea! The castle theme has always been my favorite. My last castle set was from 1993, that was until this past year when the new line from Kingdoms rolled out. The new Kingdoms subtheme is great compared to the lousy fantasy castle sets from the last decade or so. The only thing I missed out on, that I liked, was the crownies faction. Nice looking shields and armor. If LEGO finally comes out with a well designed, non-fantasy/non-action theme of any ancient civilizations...any will do really, no just Greeks or Romans....I'd quickly switch from a castle theme bias to an antiquity theme bias. So for me, of course I voted Romans or Greeks. Just as long as LEGO doesn't ruin the theme like they did with Vikings (nothing in that theme appealed to me, just too much fantasy....minifigs, structures etc.) or what they did with ancient Egypt in Pharaoh’s Quest....just too much action with the modern vehicles and the like (and no human Egyptian soldiers!). The City theme is a great example of realism/accurate depiction of the world working, I mean, would you buy a police vehicle with wings and a fire breathing dragon head on the front hood of the car? LOL I would love to see LEGO release a theme with Town/City like sets, but instead of an accurate depiction of the modern world, we'd see an accurate depiction of the Ancient world. Complete with both civilian and military sets accurate and true to history.

    Pharaoh's Quest 2011

If the Sphinx in the "Rise of the Sphinx" set looked more authentic - or came with an Obelisk instead of a vehicle and Anubis guards instead of mummies, I'd probably buy multiples of that set. However with the way it is, Scorpion Pyramid is really the only set that interests me....mostly for the Pyramid, the Obelisk, the Pharaoh, and Anubis guards.
  14. A Roman soldier minifig with a shield like that would be fantastic! The shield for the LEGO spartan minfig from last year was rather lame IMO. TLG went all out with the shield for the new Gungan soldier in the SW theme. So I know it can be done. Modular Sets

This might be a little off topic.... (had trouble finding another open thread for my suggestion). Maybe when LEGO is done with the Town modular building sets which tie into the other sets like Green Grocer and Grand Emporium, I'd love for TLG to release modular building sets in the style of Venice, Italy architecture. Meaning every year, TLG would release a new set of a Venice styled building designed to connect with each other. Highly-detailed and would be done as nicely as Grand Emporium or Diagon Alley. Eventually, collectors would be able to recreate a Venice like city built of Lego brinks. Just imagine.... canals, boats, bridges and historic churches & buildings all designed to look like Venice, Italy.
