Given what figs are in this set, these are my guesses for the rest of the wave: Battle of Five Armies set: Thorin in armour, Thranduil in armour, Beorn as a bear, Bolg, Dain, and some troops. Lake-Town: Bard, Bain, Alfrid, Bofur, Oin, and maybe Bard's daughters. Dol Guldur: we already know the figs here.

This debate on whether he'll be in a set or not is exactly what happened last year with the Azog fig. He'll be in a set.

My guess is the rest of the January wave will be Rebels. The winter waves usually have 6 or 7 sets, so they could easily cover most of the main vehicles and characters from the first season. This is how I believe most of the waves for the next few years: summer wave focusing on upcoming film, winter wave covering most recent Rebels season.

For some reason, that image makes the set look a lot better. While it may seem incomplete to some people, it is still a kids toy. It effectively represents the two most significant locations within Erebor that we've seen in the movies, as well as gives us a very impressive Smaug fig. Another reason that people may be thinking Smaug looks weird is because this is the first moveable Wyvern LEGO has released (the Horntail from Goblet of Fire was also a Wyvern, but for the most part it was all one solid piece, with no moving neck or legs). The lack of arms makes the overall torso area seem smaller than that of other dragons we've had recently.

If Episode 7 gets the full 8 sets summer wave treatment, I'm hoping for about three location sets. Sets that focus on interiors of ships or buildings and locations on planets. I think its safe to assume the Falcon as one set (probably the flagship), the new X-Wing (probably a $40-$50 set), and probably one set based on the desert town we saw a bit of from those leaked TMZ pictures.

I doubt LEGO would do that. However, I believe that we'll be seeing a lot more traditional Stormtroopers with Episode 7. If the Empire is still prominent, and the rumours we've heard about regular and new chrome Stormies being on the set of the film, then I think its safe to assume that we'll be seeing plenty of Imperial related sets in the coming year and a half. I feel like this year's summer wave really gave us a good overall sweep of Imperial forces and vehicles, as well as giving us much needed updates to Vader and Palpatine. I'm hoping that the Episode 7 sets are up to par with these updates, so you could easily fill your 2014 Star Destroyer with Episode 7 Imperials.

Before this topic gets too redirected away from talk of Episode 7, I have one thing I'd like to talk about. As we all now know, the Falcon is going to appear in Ep 7. This makes me believe that the likely flagship set for the Ep 7 group of sets will be a new version of the Falcon. Now, what I'm wondering is if LEGO will find a way to incorporate the carrying handle into the ship. Most of the big flagship sets we've got since 2009's Venator Cruiser have had a handle for easy transport and swooshing, but alas the Falcon has never been given this treatment. I believe that LEGO could find a way to put a handle down the front section, so the handle sits inside the centre metal sheet that points forward between the mandibles at the front. Also, now having seen some reviews of the new ISD (particularly the one from The Brick Show, which has convinced me that it is one of the best Star Wars toys to be released for a long time), its easy to see that LEGO can now reduce the gaps between hinges and plates on ships to a miraculous minimum, and in turn make the ship remarkably sturdy. I'm really hoping that the inevitable new Falcon gets this treatment, so that the exterior, when closed, looks smooth and constant, with no gaps that let you peek inside the ship. I know its a while off, but these are just some of the major updates I'm really hoping for from a new Falcon set.

Ep 7 is different from Rebels. We've had knowledge of characters, locations and vehicles from the show for a while now, so the sets don't spoil much at all. However, if LEGO were to release their Ep 7 sets in the summer wave before the film's release in December, we could have a Indy 4 incident on our hands again. What I mean is that it was obvious that LEGO was denied full access to the most current state of the film, and so were left with making sets based on whatever concept art and plot details they had, making for some pretty inaccurate sets. POTC is another example, particularly the Fountain of Youth set. I just hope that this doesn't happen with Star Wars. It would be a huge shame if half the sets we get are random and inaccurate to the film, so my hope is that they push the summer wave forward a bit to coincide with the films release.

Thats very unlikely. My guess is that the January 2015 wave will be focused on Rebels, and then the summer wave being pushed forward to a september or october release to land closer to Episode 7, with 8 or 9 sets focused completely on the new film. Then Jan 2016 will hopefully have battle packs based on Ep 7, with the rest of the wave based on Season 2 of Rebels. Then, after that I believe that the waves will be organized in a similar fashion to give enough coverage over the show and new trilogy/stand alone films. Once the new trilogy is finished, I could see a return of OT and PT sets, but thats roughly 6 years from now.

Should we be in store for a video showing some of the details, like what we got last year for Lake-Town Chase?

Hmmm... bending wings. If LEGO is capable of such a thing, it would be amazing. But at the same time, having that much non-ABS plastic in one LEGO set or element seems like too much. Its get to far away from LEGO and becomes too much like a boring toy from another company.
-
I think that the other new figs from the other sets (Bard, Bolg, Armoured Thranduil, Witch-King, Galadriel are my guesses) should make up for the slightly boring selection found here. The fig to focus on here is Smaug, and he really does kinda steal the show.

Did anyone else notice how the official set name given at the top of the MTV article says The Lonely Mountain, yet later, when listing the functions and accessories, it says The Lair of Smaug? Thats a better name. It is way more accurate to what you actually get. The Lonely Mountain misleads one to think it has the doors and is more of a full set, rather than a cross-section look into the city. I wonder if the other set names will be misleading as such...

It says it includes Ori and Gloin, but I see Fili and Kili instead. Also, why are Balin and Dwalin's weapons trans colours? Seems strange. The set itself feel very lacklustre. They've simply tried fitting too much into too small a space. The throne is tiny, however the playability within the mine area actually looks pretty good. And its been a while since we've had a decent dwarf mine set, which is really cool. Also, it seems like the Arkenstone is just like the game version, which makes me glad. Now to Smaug. While it has many flaws, such as the seemingly short torso and unfortunate long spike in the direct centre of the forehead (unlike the movie), it has a beautiful wingspan, as well as having the most sophisticated wing connection for a dragon as of yet. Also, the position he's posed in seems to make him look squished. Perhaps by keeping the tail and neck as extended as possible, it wouldn't look as small. And lastly, the printing looks stellar, and its also nice to finally being dwarf variants. I just hope its their BOT5A armour and not their DOS gear. Finally, the price. 130$ seems a little odd, yet appropriate. It seems that we're getting more 130$ sets as of late, which we haven't really seen much of before. Unfortunately, this price will be hiked up by about 10-20$ in Canada, so thats kind of a bummer. Hopefully we see more of the rest of the wave soon, particularly the sets directly related to the battle.

I'm excited, but unlike many, I never really read most of the EU books and comics, so the exclusion of the stories doesn't phase me that much. The only issue is that a hand and lightsaber would disintegrate within the atmosphere during the fall. Thats the only real reason that points toward this being fake. However, it does support rumours that Han has a larger role, and that he is on the search for Luke, as well as how Boyega and Ridley were playing important roles.
-
It looks like there is a new technic piece used as landing gear. Also, the use of the Jedi Interceptor wing as a fin is quite clever.
-
WOW! That set is brilliant! Is it a confirmed 2015 set. or could this be a late release, perhaps to come in October alongside the premiere? Either way, its awesome to finally get more variety in Wookiee figs. I can already see the many Kashyyyk MOCs that will inevitably be in our future.

I was at the Indigo at the Eaton Centre in downtown Toronto today and to my surprise they had the Star Destroyer and the Phantom, but none of the other new sets. 150$ for the ISD and 25$ for the Phantom. Perhaps in other places in Canada these sets are popping up?

I find it funny how this thread has fizzled, what with Episode 7 on its way and all. Speaking of, the website Badass Digest has posted some interesting supposed plot details for the new film, as well as a separate piece on details about John Boyega's character. Plot details: http://badassdigest.com/2014/07/20/exclusive-star-wars-episode-vii-plot-details-revealed/ Boyega details: http://badassdigest.com/2014/07/20/star-wars-episode-vii-follow-up-john-boyegas-character-is/ Now, there is obviously no confirmation on this info, but a lot of it falls in line with most of the rumours we've heard so far about the story, particularly about Luke's role. If you don't want to risk spoilers, don't click the links.

I really hope that's the route they take. I feel like one of the big flaws of CW was that it tried to cover too much of the galaxy, and thus had many missed or wasted chances for better stories. I think if the CW were to be divided so most of it tells a continuous narrative, I think the Mandalore, Nightsister, Maul and Ventress plots, which all connect to each other, are the core stories of the show. Mortis, Order 66 and Yoda's arc are the other three that I consider essential parts of the Star Wars story. Everything else just kinda happened. With Rebels they have a chance, like you said, to make a OT style show. I feel like this is where Star Wars will finally truly feel like the old Flash Gordon and Buck Rogers serials that Lucas was trying to reinvent. A weekly show with solid heroes and villains and fun adventures is the closest thing to true Star Wars since 1977.

I've always cared more about the figs and creatures than the sets themselves. The set is just a backdrop. The figs are what truly matter to me. So if they were to only reveal the Smaug fig, I'd be content. However, my guess is they'll reveal the whole Smaug set.
-
That SDCC Bard is beautiful. I have no doubts that this will be the fig included in any Laketown sets we get, much like how Azog last year was basically a teaser for the new sets. Hopefully we see Smaug soon. I'd be fine if Smaug is the only thing they reveal.
-
The only things that MTT has going for it are the Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan and Naboo Guard figs. They're gorgeous. The rest is pretty lacklustre.
-
I doubt thats what will happen. In the CW show, there were so many different villains to use, meaning that some could be weaker than others. But this show seems like they are going for a more intimate type of relationship between the characters and the audience by making the story less about a galaxy wide conflict, meaning that there are fewer characters and thus more time to spend developing those characters more than some were in the CW. I think that makes sense, but I'm not sure.
