  1. Alejandro de la Calle's Office, Nova Terelli - a small commercial property.
  2. Alejandro has been visiting Bardo, to enjoy the musician's fair and to do some business with his new partners in the MCTC, upon his return he takes a tour around an area of Nova Terelli he has previously not seen, known to the residents as a higher class sort of area Alejandro is keen to look for property there. Nacho and he notice an interesting building and go over to take a closer look. The two men are welcomed inside, to their amazement the beautiful entrance way opens into a a sort of training area with swords lining the walls and an unusual helmet on a stand. Hideo explains that he teaches Kendo, a form of sword fighting passed down to him from his father, and offers to give the two men a lesson. Slightly to Alejandro's disappointment they are only given wooden swords but as Hideo instructs them they see the benefit especially once they are fully equipped and practicing against each other. Path of the Single Cut Dojo (vii) by Phadeout, on Flickr I hope people like this, it isn't very "pirate" I just wanted to do something a little different - if it offends anyone's sensibilities just pretend it doesn't exist :) although I will probably use this as a base for expansion to a full martial arts school at some point in the future... It's my third free build of the month so non-Eslandolans I would really appreciate your approvals.

Bricklinking pieces vs buying a whole set

Also depends where you live - international shipping would mean paying over the odds for small orders would result in a much greater difference between the final costs compared to a one off purchase. And if you live a a small or relatively isolated country where domestic sellers and therefore pieces are limited it makes a big difference - even here in the UK, which isn't really that small, we can end up getting serious price hikes on rare pieces because only two or three people have them for sale - over in the states the same part might be half the price but shipping and customs means it isn't worth it either. I generally check on somewhere like Brickset how many rare pieces are in the set (look to see how many sets it has been used in is very quick and easy) and then get some BL ballpark prices, that will normally tell you if you are going to struggle or not. Somebody mentioned the Greengrocer Modular earlier - I have the parts to build that now, although I haven't built it yet as I have re-purposed some of them for a while, the sand green 1x8s will bankrupt most people for example so many like me have chosen to swap them out for a different colour, also there is in that set for example a dark red 2x4 inverted slope brick you need a couple of for curtains - buying both in the UK was going to cost me about £9 so again I swopped them, I now have them in green which looks quite nice and cost £1. Some people though would think this was unacceptable so ymmv.
  4. Fantastic, the forced perspective is great, I think the idea here is spot on, really tells a story.
  5. Congrats to the winners, I'm very happy to have gotten an honourable mention - I have to say as soon as I saw legostone's entry I knew we had first place decided, that was spot on.
  6. Path of the Single Cut Dojo - a medium sized Artisan in Nova Terelli
  7. If you want to join a trade company this would make a difference to where you are locating yourself as you will be doing them a favour by building on their land. It is worth bearing in mind - alternatively Nova Terelli would be an excellent choice I think due to the well-established nature of the settlement and the amount already being built there.
  8. Captain Log: February 1 616 We weighed anchor and moved out of Terelli's grand harbour as dawn rose. The Queen of Terelli, our warship escort, had already pulled out ahead and heavily laden for goods we headed east under favourable winds to make our fortunes in Nova Terelli. The three ships, the Cotton Lady, the Golden Snake and the Fénix are shown below. Check out further installments to see how the voyage progressed. 9. Thanks - the idea was to contrast the old city of Terelli with the New and colourful Nova Terelli that Elostirion did but I may have gone a bit far!

    Science or Nonsense?

Staircase, photoshopping Uncle in the bottle, overall design, storytelling - all excellent. More please
  11. Love it, really nicely set up, all our ships are really well represented. Great job!

Glassworks and Stone Quarry, Port Raleigh

Really nice, I'd echo the comments already made about the start-up feel being well judged. I wonder how many accidents come about from having a stone quarry right next to a glassworks though Oh and yes the foam is excellent, I'll be pinching that at some point
  13. That's lovely, the carved wood effect is great and the workshop seems well equipped. All in all very nice. Eslandola approves

    [OL FB3] Sunshine market

+1 from Eslandola As others have said a little bit more hustle and bustle and general mess would add to it - but I really like it and now want to do something similar. Good job. I imagine this will look even better as part of a whole extended scene - I can't wait..

    Your accounts will be fixed

There are a lot of ways to earn through building, it is appealing to do so both on a personal level and on behalf of your faction. There is also a desire in individuals to set a scene for themselves to develop. Maybe the way to ease the admin process is to scale back the number of opportunities to earn or make them less valuable, it may focus people more on what they are building. Also there is currently no version in BoBS of the university of Petrea, did the creation of that change the way people built in GoH? I think I would happily slow down in order to achieve credits in that type of system, I am quite a reward driven person generally and see the process and the payout as both being important. In terms of the original post, I filled out my adjudication form and had no intention of PM ing Ska, I can happily carry on building without the numbers being exact and I think it is a shame if people are getting bent out of shape over a couple of doubloons (shiny and bootiful as they are!).
  16. Meanwhile, in Terreli (iii) by Phadeout, on Flickr Meanwhile, in Terreli (i) by Phadeout, on Flickr “You called for me Don Gonzalo – Ai! What did you do? – you shot Jaime the guard?!” “Ah, Mia welcome, welcome. Yes, there was an unfortunate incident with young Jaime here I’m sorry to say but take a look at the room and see if you can tell me why this might have happened.” “It is hard to say with the mess and the dead body on the floor but it looks as though some of the chests have been gone through – have you been robbed Señor? Who would be so crazy? “Crazy indeed, but sadly you are correct. Jaime is dead because he is one of the guards and was here when I found out, anger can be a terrible thing can’t it Mia?” “Yes, Don Gonzalo, do you know who could have done this? “Yes, and it is the reason for my calling for you, it would appear my son, Alejandro has decided in his infinite wisdom to steal a small fortune in gems and other trinkets from me and disappear to the New World where he has started some sort of business venture – if rumours are true then he has even thrown in with those upstarts in the MCTC. That Wyndzon is just a strip of a lad himself and Alejandro has been trading with him and his cronies. A ship called the Fénix arrived here yesterday to take on cargo for a run back to Nova Terelli, the vessel is licensed under an assumed name but the crew were overheard talking about him and my contacts report it to be true.” “What do you want me to do Don Gonzalo?” “What you do best Mia, cause havoc and death, not his though, not just yet. But I want him terrified, kill Nacho for me, I paid that man’s wages for years to look after my son and this is how he repays me, make it unpleasant and make sure Alejandro gets the message that I know what he has done – then burn his little boat and any other assets I have paid for to the ground and return here. When he crawls back begging for forgiveness he will learn what it means to cross me.” “As you will Don, anything else?” “Castillo has more details, see him before you leave.” Meanwhile, in Terreli (iv) by Phadeout, on Flickr “Castillo, Don Gonzalo asked me to find out more on Alejandro, what can you tell me?” “Mia, all I know is that he is living in Nova Terelli, he seems to be involved in business with the MCTC and a herbalist called Roldolfo transporting his wares and ingredients back and forth between Terelli and Nova Terelli. The Fénix, his ship, and several others are heading back laden with cargo to Nova Terelli tonight – you could try and get aboard one as a passenger. “Meet me at the docks in three hours, after you have packed for travel. I will find you passage to the New World while you do so.” Meanwhile, in Terreli (v) by Phadeout, on Flickr “Mia, you are early and you have already identified your quarry I see, the Fénix would not take any passengers but there is a warship accompanying them which had a spare berth, for a large price I might add. Make your way to the Queen of Terelli and all will be well.” “It had better be, I have no wish to see this New World, Alejandro will pay for dragging me across the ocean, it will cost him more than his servant and his ship I will tell you that much Castillo”. “Just remember that Don Gonzalo wants his son alive Mia, no mistakes or we will both be joining Jaime…”

    [OL- FB1] The Temple Courtyard

Well, I would certainly like to see slightly better pictures because what you've done is clearly excellent. I like the fact that there is a real developed story supporting it and overall think it is great.
  19. For your viewing pleasure a stripped down entry. Showcasing the outstanding vocal talents of Esmeralda Escobar and the heart-wrenchingly beautiful piping of Tomasito. As with all their performances it has all gotten a bit much for one of the audience who is proposing marriage through his tears. But Esmeralda sings for a man who went seeking his fortune out beyond the discovered islands and cares not for the attentions of "tired and emotional" sailors. Musician's Build by Phadeout, on Flickr The full build with the place looking a bit livelier is going to be a freebuild I'll put up later. I had so much fun building this I decided to expand the idea into a small tavern.
  20. Alejandro de la Calle had travelled to Bardo aboard the Fénix to meet a man who was going to introduce him to some men in the MCTC, realsiing that true financial success could best be achieved through some cooperative ventures Alejandro had travelled to meet his contact, but fair winds had meant he arrive a day earlier than anticipated and so he set off for a stroll around town to check out the local nightlife. Not having gone far he stopped to listen outside a white walled tavern called the Drunken Angel, through the usual sounds of a rum bar at the weekend he couldn't escape from the most beautiful voice he had ever heard, he stepped inside and joined the party, immediately he decided he had made the right choice to visit Bardo during it's prestigious Musical Fair. The crowd had clearly been at it for some time, he saw a man weeping to himself in one corner and many drunken revelers jostling for space near the stage. One Olean naval man, in town with a small exploratory boat Alejandro had seen on his arrival, was shouting abuse in the general direction of the stage. Alejandro caught the eye of a barmaid, ordered a "special" drink for the navy man and had the barmaid deliver it. Within 5 minutes the loudmouth was sweating buckets and struggling to not vomit, the crowd laughed and Alejandro slipped into a private booth smiling to himself and enjoying the music.
